My 02 is having trouble in the shifting department. Going into 3rd it is like I hit a dead spot where it will not shift to 3rd out of 2nd. Shifter will not go up into 3rd I can down shift back to 2nd then it will go to 3rd and sometimes I have to do it a couple times. Needless to say it is IRRITATING to say the least. Anyone else have this problem or know what it is. I have never encountered this before I pull the clutch in and hit 2nd then try for 3rd and the shifter will not go up no matter how hard I try. Sorry if I am starting to become a nuisance but some more help would be appreciated!!! I had just turned down the road to my house today and shifted into second and got that horrible horrible sound of 2nd slipping. Usually if you don't get on it to hard it is fine but this time was different so I shifted into 3rd but low and behold nothing could not for the life of me get it into gear. Had to baby it in first the last few blocks. I parked the beast and went inside for a while and later went out and still can't get her to shift past 2nd. So my question is what have I done now and how do I reverse it? Once again thanks for all your help in advance.

I seem to have a stuck transmission on my 83 - I have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (and neutral), but will not shift up beyond third. I had this problem about 5 or 6 years ago, and at the time had never done anything about the 2nd gear issue, so I had my local shop rebuild the transmission at that time. Never really learned what was causing the upshift problem at that time. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark.

Today 04-12-08 THE NAVIGATOR and I were out riding with a group on a charity run and I was in 3rd gear going about 45mph and needed more power for a swift maneuver and kicked my big 2nd GEN into 2nd and twisted the throttle, Well the front end came off the ground and shocked the heck out of me and THE NAVIGATOR as well as the guy and his kid on the tour glide classic next to us. I did'nt know the 2nd GEN'S could do that cause there so heavy and would never try to bring her off the ground in fear of ripping the front end out. But she came down gentle and we were off to the races when I hit 3rd gear.. Man this is a sweet bike and the HD riders where impressed they did'nt think a big bike could do that. Thought I would share this info. What a beautiful day it was today.........................................Ron

I am selling some 2nd gen RSV parts on EBAY. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZdennishka I have an 07 muffler for sale. I was asked can it fit an 1983 Royale. I know that they are different and that Yamaha does not make them any longer. Does anyone know if there is a thread here and if the 2nd gen muffs can be adapted for use on the 1st gens? -
i read some where in here where to get longer cords for the 2nd gen something about radio shack maybe?

I have a J&M elite headset for sale. Is 2yrs old, comes with the 5 pin connection cord for the 2nd GEN.... New it would cost $229.00 from J&M, asking 150.00 you pay shipping. I bought a new helmet with a headset pre-installed and don't really need the 2nd headset so I am willing to remove it from the helmet and sell it. PM me if you are interested

Well, the checks I been waiting on finally cleared the bank. SPent 400 dollars with Flatout today, Chris called me at noon and told me that all parts are available in the warehouses, only one part needs to come from Japan. (I'll tell you about that later. Something to do with not wanting to take 10 minutes and make the clutch holding tool!!!). All parts should be in by the end of the week. Saved 25 bucks by having him hold the parts for pick-up since I only live 10 miles from there. These parts are just the internals, like all o-rings, gaskets, clutch springs, 2nd gear repair (gonna undercut my gears), water pump rebuild,etc.. Will post complete list if anybody wants to see it. Next week I'll order my exterior stuff, going to replace all the hoses, water route orings, thermostat, etc. Doing this once, and then be done with it! Flatouts website makes it easy to order, can print out the microfiche listings, that way you have a record of what you've got when it comes time to figure out what all those bags have in them!!! Oh well ,back to the grind! Dan

I know in the past I have read several posts where people have lost the push to talk cb button on their 2nd generations bikes.....My dealer got me one for my bike under warrenty......I know in the past they were changing the whole unit for a button...Here are the part numbers 4xy-88157-00 for the passenger cb push to talk button 4xy-88137-00 for the passenger volume control knob I was going to post this in the 2nd generation tech library but wouldnt let me for some reason.

have a lot of time on their hands? I want Corbin to make a solo seat for my 2nd gen but the only way they can do it is to have a bike there. They say they have to make a mold and fabricate a seat pan. They can't just use a seat I send to them. They assured me it would not hurt the bike, they put down plastic and make a mold with fibreglass, and that any 2nd gen would work. Unfortunately I live in Florida so theres almost no chance of me doing it and my Wife absolutely loves her pillow top so a regular Corbin his/hers won't do. Anyone that has some time on their hands and wouldn't mind being a model please let me know. Thanks.

Haven't seen any posts recently about the next gen RSV. I believe the last was around Aug/Sep just before the news release on the 08s. I've been wondering, what if Yamaha goes the BMW route and puts an in-line 4 in the next RSV in '09 or '10? It would make it a completely different bike, but they do have an I-4 in the FJR1300 that cranks about 145 hp I believe. There're also a couple other things that could be taken from the FJR: standard ABS, FI, and optional clutchless, handlebar paddle shifting (or toe if you like). Yep, it sure would be a different bike--wouldn't sound right I don't believe. They could then maybe go back toward the 1st gen look--which I believe was ahead of its time. (I still like my 2nd gen, though.) I know I'm going to hate myself for this next questions, but . . . any comments? PS Is this way out of cycle? Like we talk about this topic each summer and fall only? I feel like the damned elections--about a year or two ahead of what should be.

Does anyone have a copy of installation instruction or the parts list, for a Hitch Doc for a 2nd Gen that they could e-mail me. Found one here local but the person didn't have the bike anymore. Only the hitch. need to make sure I've got all the parts I need, plus installing it correctly. Thanks in advance for help anyone can provide. Charles -
Anybody ever wonder, or know how many 2nd Generation RSV's Yamaha has built? Saw a post that there were almost 4k members of this club.... tried a Google search, but no luck. Anybody have any idea??

I sure could use a new controller as mine is cracked and the mount holes are gone. Too expensive from Momma Yamma so if anyone knows of a wrecked 2nd gen please let me know.

Dont want the Rivco chrome (and heard there were possible quality issues? and the price is high for me). But I am looking for an actual 2nd Gen stand, not a retrofit of a 1st gen stand. Did Yamaha even offer this... or anybody else out there track one down ?? Figure for my use, under the bike, I want black for the dirt and grime.

I was looking at a 1996 tour classic and I really like th luggage rack on the rear fender behind the backrest. My question is will it fit on a 2nd gen without a trunk and if so where can I buy one?

I wonder if anybody has removed their tape deck from their 2nd Gen RSV, and replaced with a CD player or found some type of MP3 player that actually can be modified to fit behind the tape deck cover. I dont know who uses the tape deck out there, but I never have on my bike. I have no interest in the cd changer option... and current plug and play my MP3 player through the plug in.... Anybody know if somebody has done anything like this?? -
I have the sears M/C jack theres a lota stuff under there to rock on and i seem to remember something about mounting 2x4s on the runners of this jack witch way do they mount down each runner or across from one to the other in two places or in block form @each corner? and do they go on edge or flat and thanks for all the help that is about to come oh! this is for a 2nd gen

okay folks ,i need some ideas for the design on the eureka springs meet t-shirts,as far as color,and what to put on them.i want every one to be happy with their shirt.and i think every one who attends and buys a shirt and matching patch should have some input.i'm getting an early start on this so we don't have alot of controversy at the last minute.not to mention i'm getting excited about this meet.i am going to have shirtznthings do the shirts and once we decide on a design every one can go on line and order their own size and quanity.allan h. said this is the best and easiest way to do it.so give me some input,and i will take it and run.i have a professional artist to do the design,(my big sister)so what ever we pick will be very professional.no 1rst gen ,2nd gen pictures,will be allowed.bill
