  1. Hi All, Trying to decide if this conversion really makes a big difference in the audio quality on the Venture. I am somewhat concerned for when I pull up the etronics site, the same model EQ that was used for the conversion is listed as 200 watts, but the conversion thread states it is 100 watt, so I suspect the manufacturer may be playing the number game. For those of you that have done this, was it worth the effort? For example, before you may have had to turn your volume to 25 to hear at highways speeds, but after this install, were you reaching the same point around 15 or so? Already upgrade my speakers on a 2006 Venture to Marine grade Polk Audio, but since I listen at high volume, I want to ensure I get enough power to the speakers to keep from harming them in the long run, so torn between the EQ install or an AMP, however I don't want to loose any truck space. Thanks for any help and advice!!!!! :confused24:
  2. I had one just like her. I bought it new off the showroom floor for $1995 in 79. Sold it when I found mamamo in 81. I couldn't afford them both so had to let one go. A man does some strange things at times.I bought my 84 venture 24 years later.
  3. I am kind of new to the motorcycle scene. I have worked with cars since I was a kid. I purchased a totaly perfect '86 Venture last summer. As I use it regular I desided to change plugs and oil over the christmas break. Then wile out riding last week it started to back fire when I get off the gas and some times when I am warming it up it will pop slightly. Have I got a plug loose.... what a bear to change plugs on..... ? Have I disturbed something...... a carb rubber? The local shops just shake thier heads and say live with it or scrap it. any recommendations from other riders would be helpful Kevin Victoria BC Canada
  4. Just Bored and think to replace Antifreeze in Venture Cooling System, and get ready for nice weather rides. I Got one of Amsoil Antifreeze https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/ant.aspx , and they recommend to mix with Water in rate of 40, 50 or 60 % depend on region. Well Chicago have some arctic temperatures during winter, but over summer could be extremely hot too. So What is your experience with Coolant / Proportions. Should I Wait until Spring and use higher water grade. or just mix as directed on bottle? Little confused. this is my first time to change coolant fluid on Venture. I Know I'm never change coolant in my cars, and they works. What is your Recommendation. Thanks
  5. HI EVERYONE, I AM LOOKING FOR PASSENGER ARMRESTS FOR MY 2006 VENTURE IS THERE SOMONE WHO MAKES THESE AFTER MARKET I HAVE SEARCHED ONLINE EVERYWHERE, AND FOUND THEM FOR HD ULTRA BUT NOT SEEING ANYTHING FOR STAR VENTURE ANY INFO WOULLD BE GRATFULLY APPRECIATED. THANKS NanPaw:322:
  6. Hot off the press guys. Here's a shot of the 2009 Royal Star Venture. Who said they were going to re-vamp it? Just a (very) different colour scheme. They're calling it Brokeback Mountain Pink as a tribute to Heath. :rotf: | | | | | | | | | | | | \/
  7. Can a Harley Road King or Ultra Classic Muffler be fitted on a 89 Venture Royale:confused24:
  8. I cut open my collector box today. Removed all from inside and cut center piece out and welded back...I had a used set of Jardines exhaust so i cut them open and removed baffles.......My bud does chrome work and is going to rechrome........My Question is does the venture need back pressure???????????I'm trying to make it louder but don't want to hurt engine? Any input would be HELPFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS DENNY:stirthepot:
  9. Was at the dealer today told me that star motorcycles are now the designation for yamaha. There will only be a small yamaha engraved on the motor. Also for all of us venture riders the 09 will be totaly redesigned the proto type is already built and being tested. Bill 07 Venture , 95 honda ace, 1100 classic , vtx 1800

  12. Hi there, New guy here. I am looking for an 86-89 venture and have talked to one fellow about his. He said he removed the catalytic convertor. Would he be talking about the collection box do you think? Will the bike run OK without the collection box or does it need some sort of one? Looking back through older posts someone was making these....and you could still buy them from Yamaha dealers correct? Or am I out to lunch and there is a catalytic convertor? Thanks.
  13. ANY ONE KNOW IF THESE WILL FIT MY 87 VENTURE ROYAL? seen these on ebay this morning 83-85 Yamaha XVZ1200 Venture Lighted Brake Rotor Covers.
  14. No I am not going to run off...I can assure all of you I plan to stay and pester all of you so......I have ordered a new GoldWing 2008 with everything but the airbag. I did this for a lot of reasons......I started riding motorcycles at age 14 when I raced for Yamaha......then moved on to street bikes and the Harley motorcycles.....I rode them for 18 years......then got disgusted with all the problems and started switching to this bike and that one...honda's, suzuki. and several Yamaha bikes including this latest Venture......to me Venture is a good name for it as it was a Venture!! I have had a lot of trouble with this particular bike, I know this is not the norm......but just the same it left a sour taste in my mouth......I fought the dealers to the ground and finally got my clutch basket and rear drive situation settled........now I have a new letter from Yamaha telling me they need to pull the motor and install new gaskets and re-torque the head bolts........this head gasket stuff I thought I left behind with Harley, at least with a new bike.....no I have not hidden this fact I took the letter to Carolina Honda and gave it to them as I am trading Crickett in on the new one. (I am honest to a fault) I like the looks of the Venture....the motor response......and the comfort........but it is a basic bike.......by the time you install this and that and this and that......before you know it......if you keep track.........you can easily put a few grand into making it street safe. I went to Carolina Honda and they gave me a loaner bike that had ABS brakes.......I suppose that above many things helped me finally make my final choice in motorcycles......I even took the bike over to the church parking lot.......took an old cup with me and threw sand on the parking surface and kicked it around and made a mess......then ran the bike through it and hit the brakes........yep I can make it slip and grab and act a little like a squirrel.....but this is an extreme test and under the worst condition I could think of.............on smooth hard pavement.....you are not going to slip a wheel......just hit those brakes front and rear and be careful......it will stop you in a hurry!! So that was one selling point to me, I am getting older........more forgetful.......might be daydreaming one day and look up and oh sh.....T that bumper is awful close!! The lighting on this bike is simply how can I say........the best in the world.......the rear has lights all over it......mine will have an additional spoiler with an LED light on that.......that is a total of about 8 lights on the back....counting the one we are putting on the license tag too...........the front has great big signal lights........huge bright headlights.......big functional mirrors...........a windshield you can adjust for different condtions, and lots of other stuff. But safety was my biggest decision on this particular bike or about 90 percent of it.........the perfect handling and low center of balance is just a bonus, but a very welcome addition. Oh and to all you 1st Gen fellows......I know you all can outrun a 2nd Gen...but can assure you ......you cannot outrun an 1800 Honda mean machine motor......the first couple hours I played with it......I really had no desire to see what happened over 4000 rpm........last day taking it back I pushed it up there a bit......this thing will run .......way more power than I will ever use.......but is nice to have. Kit

    tools for the road

Tools. We all love em. I found this little gem at Wal-Mart, but you can buy them online too. It's a little ball-ended metric hex key wrench, that I have been carrying on the Venture for about a month now. Seems to be well made, and sure comes in handy on the bike. The main thing I use it for is taking off the seat, splitting the fairing, and general tightening of loose fasteners. Folding hex wrenches are nothing new, but this one has the ball-ends, so its much handier than most. Speaking of tools, I wonder what the riders on here recommend as far as tools they like to carry on the bike. We all know the little cheapo UJM toolkit that comes with the Venture is almost worthless....I know Cruz tools have a good reputation. So what do yall carry on board? http://www.sheffield-tools.com/images/6150.jpg http://www.sheffield-tools.com/pc-weekender-series-folding-hex-key-kit-p-1112.html
  19. Here is a website that sells an affordable hitch that some of the Venture riders have purchased. Easy to install and looks good. http://www.mchitch.com/products.htm
  20. Was down at one of the local dealers here in Houston today. Got to talking to one of the salespeople about the Venture and when is Yamaha going to dump the tape player and go with a CD changer? Well he said that when they were at the annual shindig that Yamaha has the rep said to take a good look at the '08 because that was going to be the end of the Venture as we know it now. I tried to pry more info out of him but he said that is all he knows right now. Said they will probably see what Yamaha is going to do in Sep. this year and will probably have a release date Feb. '09. I said,"oh, a new first gen", and he said it will definately be a new and different look than what they have now. I guess we can always dream tho. Don H.
  21. how do i know the difference between an '87 venture and a venture royale?

  23. Just before New Years I had sat myself down to write a note to the members of the VentureRiders, mainly to do two things 1) explain myself for some of my posts over the last couple of years, and 2) apologize for a couple of those posts. But after writing the note and reading it a couple of times I decided that it probably wasn't worth posting...why, I'm not sure. Moving forward to today I saw the following in the "Long Winter" thread and after reading these words rethought my decision to write a note or not. Red1 from just down the road from me here in Wisconsin said: "Too often, we allow ourselves to be polarized by our differences and fail to see the bigger picture. We gather here because of what we have in common - a joy of riding a great bike, a need for a little information and a desire to associate with people that share our passion. Perhaps if we kept the focus on that and had a little more tolerance for those that don't think exactly like we do, or express themselves precisely right - posts like this would no longer be necessary." Even though Don would probably tell you I'm not one of the people he was initially talking about, I'm pretty sure there are some of you who definitely believe I am one of those people. Maybe I am, maybe I'm not, but I would like to explain myself a little bit. As Don pointed out in another post recently, yes, I am a director on the Venturer site. I'm biased regarding sites? Yes, a true statement. But this post isn't about the sites, it's about the people who frequent all the Venture related sites. Do I believe the people that frequent any of the sites are any different? No! And there's the basis for much of the grumpiness I sometimes come across with when I infrequently post here on the VentureRider site. As I said I'm not talking about the sites or their merits or shortcomings, I'm talking about the people. It's always been about the ride and the people for me. That's why I come to this site as well...if it was about the site alone, I'd never be here. What it comes down to is when I read posts here, or elsewhere, that include the words "better people here" it angers me. The riders, the people, we're all the same. Some of personalities or traits of some people on the other sites you may not care for, but the same can be said for some of the people here. Earlier this year I posted a rather extensive list of events for the upper Midwest, many of those were Venturers sponsored events but not all. At first there were quite a few thank yous for posting, but then one member here got angry about the posts and said I was doing a recruiting campaign for the Venturers. I wasn't, I thought I was simply providing information for riders. Don did come to my rescue and let everyone know I was simply posting events, but it didn't seem to appease that particular member. Since then, while I have posted a couple of things, I haven't specifically posted anything Venturer related out of courtesy for this site and the member angered by the event posts. Bottom-line. I ride a Venture (and an FJR) and I hope that's enough for us to share some common ground. I'd like to be able to walk up to another rider with a Venture, talk about our rides, and maybe start a friendship. I hope that because I call another Venture site my first internet home doesn't keep that from happening. Now for the apologies. Don...no detail for the masses, but I am sorry I PO'd you in early in 2007. We used to share some common ground (other than the bike we ride)...I know that's no longer true, but I would hope the bumps in the road are behind us. To the other VentureRiders I've managed to anger at one time or another, I apologize. I hope our paths cross someday and we can get to know each other....my home north of Green Bay (and more importantly my garage and tools) are always open to anyone riding a Venture (or FJR, or Concours, or Gold Wing, or....). Here's to a great 2008. Curt p.s. I would like to say thank you to the creators of the VentureRider calendar for using some of my pictures. Other than me providing pictures of Ventures, you didn't ask nor did you care where they came from...they were pictures of Ventures and the people who ride them. A bigger thank you for making myself and my wife Cathy (crossing Big Mac) the opening picture for the 24-month calendar.
  24. I was cleaning up the classifieds a little and sent some emails to some folks with older ads. I received the following response from Toolman. I don't know what all he has left but if you are looking for something, you might want to shoot him an email. Please have members contact me again. I now have been sick for a while and feeling better now. Whatever parts I have for the venture with the exception of the polished parts will be sold very cheap or given away for the cost of shipping and a little handling fee. I would like to see someone use these parts before I put them in the dumpster. Regards Toolman the__toolman@hotmail.com
  25. When it comes to having the wind in your face, exhilarating speed and the communing with nature, most of us understand that it's pretty difficult to find something which is quite as exciting as riding a Venture. However, this looks like it might come pretty close: http://video.stumbleupon.com/#p=dglukb1xfa - just remember to be careful! I'm just not so sure that my wife will want to come along. Pete.
