  1. My rear shock just started leaking, 2000 rsv with about 20,000 miles on it. How long can i ride on it before I need to replace it? Cash flow is low.. And what's it going to cost to replace it?
  2. Anybody seen or done an airbag in place of the pos stock shock?
  3. Ok..now my rear shock has went BYE BYE! That's Texan for IT'S FUBARED. Noticed handling was not quite normal...looked under there, and voila..oil dripping off the shock. 21,444 miles. Took it into a dealer..they are supposed to be ordering me a new one...wonder how long this will take? My trip to Sturgis is about 7 weeks from now as I write this..(June 13th). I will have a little story to tell about this one I'm sure, but waiting till I get the new shock on before I will tell those stories...you never know who might read this and show it to those guys. SO, not mentioning names or details...yet. Stay tuned.

    shock

I have a shock that came off by trike.Someone is wanting to buy it.the shock had 249 miles on it when removed. What would the shock be worth to sell. I don't know what the price should be
  5. About %30 of the time when i press my rear shock button. It reads zero, when i press the "M" button to fill it up to about 50, it goes up to 50 really fast on the computer, but not in the shock itself. It does it alot more frequently in the cold. What does this? also after pressing the M and it "fills" when i press the rear button again it says 15 and does it over.... i have an 85 venture royale... anyone know what to do?
  6. So after hearing everyone say how wonderful these shocks are, 2 months ago I held my nose and placed my order. I was all ready for the 'quick' change out. Old shock off in about 15 minutes (including time to rearrange crap in the garage and get bike up on jack) and as I am lining up the new shock to put it in its place I try to slide the bottom over the part on the swing arm where it is supposed to connect and what do I find? Hmmm. The U part of the bottom of the shock is too small!!! So. I take a deep breath and get the bolt through the top one, thinking I just don't have it lined up quite right or something and now that I've got it all in place (except for the bottom) I am pretty sure that it is just too small. Has any one else run into this while installing their shock? 7 Weeks and 700 bucks later (not to mention the already questionable customer service from the guy that I put my order in with - but that is a different story for a different day) - and this is what I have. I am NOT a happy camper. I hope I am just doing something wrong though... Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  7. Does the rear tire have to come off to change the rear shock?
  8. Shock absorber – Check pressure or add air pressure, How to? I have a 2006 RSTD which I have never bothered to check the shock absorber pressure until this week. Using an automobile tire pressure gauge it registered 0 PSI pressure. Is this something for a DIY person to do or should this be done by the Yamaha dealership? Can a bicycle tire pump be used to increase the pressure to the shock absorber? I understand it is a low pressure unit and excceding the maximum pressure can result in damaged “O” ring seals. Thanks. 2 Flights
  9. I found a small puddle of oil under my bike. It was dripping from the rear shock but I dont know where its coming from. Help!!!!!
  10. Needed an air shock pump for the '99, and found one on Ebay #360254648832 for about half the price Harley was asking.... for what looked like the same they have except this one was silver... Finally got it, and it's terrible. It was rated 0-60psi, but had to pump like he!! the get the front forks up to 10# and I gave up trying to get the rear shock past 35#. I wouldn't recommend this pump to anyone. I'm going to go visit a bicycle shop to see what they have.... You know what they say...Experience is costly. Hope this keeps another member from making the same mistake....
  11. 2005 Venture, What is the max. air pressure i can put into the shock to raise my bike to get into my trailer ? The pressure will only be used to get into the trailer, not riding. t/y Cb

    Rear Shock

I know we gota replace the rear shock, also replacing rear bushing on swing arm,Little over 240k on bike, any reason this shock won't work, budget is real tight? http://www.motorsportssupercenter.com/pages/catalogs/detail/17/348/1408/1419/1/0/0/1/4/90/69/331/420-series-nonreservoir-alum-body-shock.aspx
  13. I got to say this is the best change I have made on my bike to date. I always found that the forks on this bike are never right. If you have no air in them they are too mushy and if you even have a little air in them you get a very hard unforgiving ride. Hit a pot hole and you blow your kidneys out you butt and on a on ramp it almost chattered and went sideways if you hit bumps in the lean. After seeing a post by Rick Butler I decided to try something Rick had done. I installed Sonic Springs in a heavier rate (120) and added the Racetech Gold fork emulators. Basically you are eliminating the air assist and adding spring. Also you are making the shock a variable dampening unit instead of an unadapting hard on the bumps shock. Now the bike is surefooted in turns and on rough roads a much more comfortable ride. Now to do the rear shock. I planed to wait but I found the infamous pool of oil under the shock and its not warrantied. Second one in a 16000 mi range. I ordered the Works.
  14. Looking at page 5-40 service manual, but can't get it to copy here. When the bolt that goes thru ARM-1, Relay Arm, and Lower fitting or Rear Shock is tightened down, the shock locks up to ARM-1(does not pivot freely). Can see what is happening, bushings 'G' press into bushing of lower shock and 'lock up' Bushing of lower shock appears to be molded into the rubber isolator of lower shock. It takes siginficant force to rotate shock around pivot of ARM-1, this can't be correct, can it? Can't figure any way to 1. Keep pressure of bushings 'G' off bushing of lower shock so shock bushing can rotate around bolt shank.(dont think this would be correct for shock to work directly on the bolt) or 2. Allow shock to rotate around lower shock bushing/rubber isolater Removed entire shock/link system due to this issue, installed zerk fittings and lubed. All other pivot points work great. Ideas/ Suggestions? Brian
  15. OK several people have been asking about the leftover parts from ythe Hannigan hack, so here';s what's gone already. Diamond R hide a hitch, gone! Rear fender, Gone! Rear rotor, gone! Saddlebags are going on Goldie mounted backwards to accomodate the Ventureline rear bumper, so gone! Rear brake, gone. Yet to find a home, chrome triple tree, rear shock, rear tire, differential (hoping to sell to a VMax owner exchange) and rear sub frame. These parts have only 8K on them. The rear shock was sold but the interested party recently totaled his scoot. If interested just PM me...
  16. I just have to say how happy I was to find this forum and I'm new here. I recently bought a 2006 RSTD which went into service April 07 so it still has a couple of years of warranty but after a few rides I had some things come up that I wanted to look into. First off I had the moaning shock issue which I found out through looking through the forums is not that unusual and that the shock is a bit of an issue on these bikes. The other question I had was about what oil and filter to use and other maintenance items which I also found answers to. So I guess right at the moment I haven't any thing else to look up but wanted to say that while reading through the many many threads I realized what a supportive and knowledgeable bunch of people hang out here and that I'm glad I found you all!
  17. Hi gang , looking for an aftermarket shock. Can the fine group here suggest a quality shock ? Going to the koots and after doing a long trip to Toronto, Ontario..so, I need a good ride for my toochie, one thing I reupholstered the seat with a gel as well. Thanks much appreciated. Mike in Calgary..
  18. I just had a shock built by Klaus Heuencke at www.epmperformance.com for my 2nd gen RSV. Ride quality is excellent, and shock construction is excellent. It is a YSS brand, but is custom built by Klaus in New Jersey. The cost of the shock is $499, which is far less than anything else I could find (including stock). The shock is also about 2-3lbs lighter than the stock shock, and performance is far superior to stock. I'll post a pic of it tonight. You can email Klaus at info@epmperf.com . The shock is adjustable, specs are: Pre-Load Adjustment, Rebound Adjustment 60 Clicks — 50 mm 50 Micron Steel Bore and Radial Sinter Piston — 16 mm Hardened Shaft — Low Friction, Long Life Seal Block — Bearing, Bushes and Fork Fittings to suit each Model — Dampening and Springrates Model specific, and is rebuildable.
  19. bought a 2007 with 492mi a month ago. Took to dealership last week and got registered in my name. then I decided Sunday to check on air pressure in tires and shocks. First off I need to find a guage to fit between the rotors and valve stem of front wheel , what a pain. The rear tire wasn't that bad as it has a 90 deg valve stem on it, much better to check and fill(only wish it was turned to the opposite side of the kickstand) The bad news is when I checked rear shock it read zero. I thought no problem Ill just put some in. well I did and in about 60 seconds it was back to zero. Riding without air in the shock shouldnt have hurt it ? I've put close to 400 mile on it in the last week or so. Maybe somethings loose? I checked valve stem and its tight and there isn't any preceivable air leak sound or oil anywhere???
  20. I just pulled the rear shock off my parts bike and it is a KYB shock. Is this stock?
  21. I have noticed a 'bounce' to my bike that has not been there before. I have checked the air in the shock and it is holding fine. However, upon grabbing her by the butt and giving her the test, she bounces. Could this be only the shock or is there more to it than this?
  22. I have a nearly new E-Bay found Progerssive rear shock and spring assembly ready for installation in my 86 Royale. Does anyone have access to a copy of the original paperwork that would have been included with the shock when new?
  23. We ride 2 Up almost exclusively. With a combined weight of about350 lbs with gear, whats a good starting point for that rear shock? Do anyone recommend adding air to the fronts?
  24. I promise this will be the last question or two about the rear shock (from me anyway). I have a '99 RSV that I am putting a new rear shock on. I have been assured that the newer shock, that was changed starting with '05, will fit. The newer shock has, I'm assuming, a vent hose. What do I do with it? Is there a certain place it has to be routed to?
  25. A friend of mine has a 1999 Venture that has a air leak in his rear shock. Is their any fix for this or just get another shock. If a different shock is the fix what years will work?
