  1. And still lacking anything usefull.
  2. I ran across a book once titled "Understanding Women". Nice cover, well bound and 36 totally blank papers. Pretty much explained every thing.
  3. Seems like a standup guy to me.
  4. You might still have time!!!
  5. There is always a loop hole ain't there. Mike
  6. Go low and slow. Those boys down there are probably stocked up on ammo already. password would be "DON'T SHOOT!!!"
  7. There ya go. Work or walk. Solves a lot of problems right there. Oh and by the way.... I got dibs on Brad for my clan. He would be my "new normal" Head of Industry. Ah hell, he'd probably have his own clan. Never mind. But the position is open when the time comes Brad.
  8. And there ya go. From the looks of the shelves today I might have to do some trading for some more 00 buck.
  9. Save yourself! Check on ebay!!! You'll be fine!! Broke..... but Twinkied up.
  10. I bought my '84 in '06. Replacement of parts was fairly easy to do with the long life span of the models and interchangability of common parts. Back then eBay was a great place for used parts. Much of my stock pile of parts was purchased for pennies on the dollar. Not so much anymore. Prices have jumped. But for what I spent I've had 35,000 miles of pretty much trouble free riding. As long as I don't pile the bike up I don't expect to spend a lot more over the next few years. I was talking to the owner of a local bike salvage yard that has been around since I was a teen. I asked what he had for Ventures. He just grinned and said he hadn't stripped a Venture in over 10 years. Nobody gets rid of them. They fix 'em and keep riding. Mike
  11. What time ya want me to call ya in the morning to wake ya up? Or ya want to sleep is as we are all supposed to get the day off anyway? Mike
  12. One of the very few shows I will even turn on the TV for. Funny as it can get. My x had a friend that was in college for 12 years and not because he was dumb. He was the mold for Sheldon. Smart as all get out, knew everrything and could prove it. But bring him by the house for a party...... more than I could stand. Clueless!!!
  13. In looking at that in the light of the question I'm thinking what would the market value be on that radioactive squirrel? In that sitaution you have expended a shell to get the squirrel. Would you take 5 more shells for in trade? An item of clothing? A can opener? LOL! Yamamike brings a good point. But how long would it take to rebuild a value system. That squirrel might bring a nice diamond ring from someone hungry enough. In this case I'd rather trade for more shells rather than a diamond. The shells would hold more value as they can provide more food or even protection. A diamond? Go ahead, throw one at a squirrel. If you have a trade, you can barter for other services or items. I'll build you a shelter for one of your goats. I'll show help you plow your land for a few head of cattle. Oh hell, what will a roll of toilet paper be worth? Don, you have had experience with that shortage. And you probably realized bringing more food was not the correct solution. Chilli not accepted here!!! I'm just throwing senarios out there to make the point of my question. And I argree. We are close to that position now. The economy is failing world wide. What will we do when it falls in rubble? The only value at that point is what you or I see as a need of the item. And we move on......
  14. Ok, we dodged another bullet. The world as we know it did not end ..... again. We've seen enough of these predictions over our life times to know, or belive, or think it's all hokie as hell. Well I do anyway. I have a good friend that made a small fortune during the Y2K paranoia selling supplies like oil heaters and laterns, bulk canned goods, bulk dried goods, solar systems, water systems and such and even refurbished old style 29 channel CB's and Ham Set ups. And batteries! man he sold tons of batteries! He had even set up with a Federal Firearms License and was able to sell weapons. When I asked him what he had done for his own survival he laughed his butt off. He had cash! What more could you need? I though he was one of the most poorly prepared of all. Now don't get me wrong. I'm no survivalist, not even close to what some people are doing these days. I still got a little Boy Scout left in me and I have always liked the "Be Prepared" mentality. So, let's pretend, that the world as we know it today, has collasped. The global monetary system is gone. Every form or currency is worthless and the base of the system such as gold and silver and worth the same weight in dirt. There are still items to be had, but money means nothing. It's down to trade or barter. So just curious, when the stuff hits that fan, what would you see that you have that is of value to the rest of the world? What can you do? What do you have that will allow you to continue on? What can you contibute to the new world? I read an article a while back that used the term "The New Normal". Something we might all have to consider someday. Now that don't sound so far fetched as the world just ending does it. Just a new "Normal". Forget about why it happend and who caused it. It did and now you need to go forward. So what ya got? Mike
  15. I'm good!!! I still had stuff left over from Y2K. Anybody need a few cases of lumpy Sterno?
  16. It's been dropping pretty steady here for a while. Down to $2.92 at most stations. However...... I noticed yesterday that some stations, at the height of the snow storm, had raised their prices back to $3.95. A buck a gallon jump at the first sign of snow? Come on! That's gouging with a big stick!!
  17. When I first opened the post and saw the first pic I thought "Man, he got off easy." And then the next few pics turned to "Gonna hurt in the morning." I'm glad to see you're here and typing away. You had a good day.
  18. I've used two of them with good results. I had one in the warehouse at my work station. Stayed pretty chilly in there during the winter months. It kept me warm when within 6 to 8 feet of it. Past that........nada. But that's the nature of the thing. It ain't a room heater. (It also warmed up pizza real nice if ya tipped it back a bit) The other one stays down in my basement shop. I don't vent heat down there during the winter so I fire up the lil heater near my workbench. Works fine for me. I never noticed any change in my bill but for a couple hours a night it was a low cost answer rather than warming the whole basement. Mike
  19. I bought a new/used one a few months ago. Somebody had bought it new, assembled it and then traded it off with their bike for a car. I don't think from the looks of it they ever pulled it. ( a lot of incorrect assembly might have had something to do with trading it off IMHO) But, after correcting the problems, upgrading a few things like LED lights, better zerks, shimming the receiver mount and actually using real grease on the bearings, and then of course changing out the entire damaged wiring harness I'm pretty happy with it. I've only put about 500 miles on it since I got it but it works fine for my plans. Weekend camping trips and such. Probably won't be my choice for dragging to Alaska. But it pulls great and rides smooth. Hardly know it back there at all. Just take your time during assembly and read the advice here on what needs to be changed to make it right the first time. Will save you some fixes down the road. Mike
  20. Check the dates on those will ya....... or is it too late? :rotf: Did they seem a lil chewy?
  21. That sucks. But that's is the way it is anymore. Everywhere. The company I used to work for had no policy against carrying a gun into the stores as long as it was not an employee doing it. The store had been robbed 4 times, three of them by armed persons while I was there. There were several of us that had CCW permits and training and were warned not to carry on the property when the issue was brought up. I'm not saying it's a need to draw and fire situation but it damn sure lets the bad boys know some one else is in position to defend themselves. Even our hired security guards and off duty LEO's hired to protect the store were not allowed to be armed. Made no sense to me. I'm sure someone will step up and hire this guy before long. He showed a lot of loyalty to the company and his friend. Mike
  22. I've been replacing the broken studs on the side covers on my '84 with these 10mm ball studs. Worked out better than what I was doing before trying to rebuild the stud with fiberglass rod and JB Weld. Probably work with other applications as well. Mike Ooppps. I see they got ya covered on that on the other thread.
  23. I know I'm like everybody else. Always looking for the right buy at the right price and then you have to consider the shipping costs. I've passed up some decent deals over time because the shipping was WAYYYY out of line. So when I find a part I've been wanting at a competitive price with FREE SHIPPING I'm all over it. A few days ago I ran across something I'd been looking at a good price and Free Shipping. Didn'd even have to mess with bidding as it was a good ol' eBay BIN. Yea! It was even a respected seller. Even better. So when I got home today I found a package, box, (one step short of a crate) on my front porch. What the heck? Didn't order a short block! Or a Microwave oven. So I drag it in and start to open it up and start pulling out packing paper. Ended up with 2 strips of heavy packing paper that were each 35 feet long and 2 foot wide. That my friends is a lot of packing paper. So looking into the box I got the chuckles. Had to take some pics. Overkill has a new definition. So I'm still giggling at what the heck that package would have cost to ship. The postage weight on the box was 7 pounds. The part in it...... less than 3 lbs and would have fit in my mail box. So the next time you go to order a part that would fit in a regular envelope and they want $20.00 to ship it...... it's my fault. They are trying to make up the loss. Mike
  24. Damn! I got a 6 to. Does that mean we have to split it? I feel so greedy. Mike
  25. If the fuel is fresh and the system is clean it don't take a lot to a full tank for regular running as a preventive measure. I'd use an ounce to a full tank every third or forth time I fill up. I ride every day so I don't worry about it to much. If you only ride once a month a little more will keep things cleaned up. Keep in mind that when using the Sea Foam for cleaning buildup that as it breaks down residue and gunge that burns onto the plugs on it's way out of the systen and it will foul the plugs in time. Like when I store the bike for winter I dose the full tank with about half a can of Sea Foam. In the spring I burn off that tank and then the next one also. Then I replace the plugs with fresh and I'm good for the season again. Mike
