I feel your pain, going through issues with my ex over my oldest son,12 years old. He just doesn't want to spend time with me anymore, trying counseling but she gives little support and says I should back down and let him stay with her all the time. The kid just beaks my heart, I can't spoil him the way her new boy toy can, child support is killing me and he is all about the 'stuff', she's unemployed and he doesn't get that the stuff comes from me.

Yep, left the military back in 07, but I work in aviation, and military time is the standard for the industry. I have a difficult time thinking in terms of a twelve hour clock and having to specify a.m. or p.m. --ick. Well its 0030 and I need to get to bed. (That's GMT + 5)...

Just paid my registration on the old 83 yesterday and it started me thinking about the upcoming season and the people on this forum. Hoping to hook up with some of you guys this summer. I know I haven't been around the forum much, life was pretty chaotic last summer. Somehow between work, kids, and home improvements, I did squeeze some nice rides in last year, but not nearly as much as I would have liked. This upcoming season should be better as long as it doesn't rain so much like last year. Hey, January 2011 is in the history books, only a little bit of this winter left. Time to look the bike over again.

Hey everyone! Been a while, Things are going okay even though my world is being rocked from just about every direction. I guess I need to catch up a bit, I'll save it for another thread, anyway, The bike has been running great all summer haven't had to bug anyone about it at all this summer. Well, I'm trying to get my old boat back together for next summer and was looking for some info on rebuilding its ford 302 powerplant. Anyway, I tripped upon this thread in another forum and thought of you guys. Now I'm curious as to what opinions you all might offer as to whether or not this would work on a first gen such as mine. That's really cool. My son is all about wolves and huskys. He and I just finished reading the call of The wild together, and he watches Whitefang time an time again. He wants to see a dogled race and I'll have to get him to one this winter if at all possible. He would love to sit at the finish line and watch the sleds come through. He wants a husky, but now is not the best time to add another pet. I'll make sure we can watch that documentary together too. I'll be looking for it. Thanks for your story!

As an aircraft mechanic you just knew I had to weigh in on this topic! I use the ---> Western Union splice technique . It is stronger by far than any other type of splice you can use. If done right it is just as weatherproof as the aviation style environmental splice and a whole lot cheaper. Another advantage is the thickness off the splice, it does not significantly increase the diameter of the wire which keeps the bulges out of your wire bundles. Also, keep in mind that the crimp on splices are only as good as your crimper, and the cost of the proper tool is cost prohibitive for most do it yourselfers. The Western union technique is used extensively by Bell Helicopter and is one of the recommended repairs in their electrical standard practices manual. I often use the environmental splice shrink sleeves over my western union joints. I guarantee that there is no type of crimp on splice that is stronger. I use Kester 44 rosin core solder for everything, along with a bit of electronics flux (radio Shack) on each wire before twisting together. I challenge anyone to pull test this against any crimp-on splice you can buy. Your wire will break before this splice pulls apart. Another advantage is that you don't have to stock a bunch of different sizes of splices for different sizes of wire. I found that the pins and sockets for common molex connectors work fine in our connectors, they can be found very cheap at radio shack as well. radio shack also has a very inexpensive crimper and an extraction/insertion tool for these connectors. That's still not quite it, but I like it a lot better than the ebay bike mods.I guess my vision will just have to live in my head until I can figure out how to do it myself. I think the modded Venture is most likely the direction I shall pursue when cash becomes more plentifull. Think Venture with bags and guards removed, (but still usable when touring), a bob tail rear fender.... As for the ebay bike mentioned earlier, all I can say is that that I'm glad Yamaha didn't go that direction... Yuck, -- good luck to the seller on the 3g's. It might be worth it to part out though. I guess the consensus is that it would be very difficult, but I like the idea of a touring vmax. For some reason the idea exites me. I guess that's one of the resons I am unsure if any of the touring 'bling' parts will be reinstalled after paint this winter. I've gotten used to the naked look, often with the trunk removed and sometimes the bags off as well. It feels really fast with the extra weight removed too.

That's what I meant when I said powertrain. That stuff has all been done, complete engine swaps, engine internals, transmission, drives, and induction systems. What I'm interested in is if anyone has figured out how to set up a vmax with a venture's fairing and bags. Not that I plan to try it, but I think it would be an interesting project.

I know several Venture owners have installed Vmax powertrains into their ventures. It got me thinking, has anyone ever gone the other way and figured out a way to mount Venture bodywork to a v-max?

I just recently retired from the Air National Guard, but as a traditional guardsman, "weekend Warrior", I won't start getting pension payments until I'm 60. That's a ways off yet, so I'll have to keep wrenching on helicopters unless I find something better. I'm dumping as much as I can into my 401K for when the time comes. I figure Social Security will be pretty much bankrupt since noone wants to fix it, so I'm not counting on that at all. I plan to spend retirement in my garage, in the woods, on the water, in the air, or on the road. Anywhere other than on a couch.

I've been hearing a lot about the series and finally got to see an episode tonight. So far, its nothing like I've seen on the war before. I've watched a lot of WWII shows on the history channel, but this really has a different focus. It's format is very similar to the "Civil War" series a few years ago, and it really draws you in. Any Thoughts?

My little guys are already talking about hunting and they love to go to our hunting camp just to walk around. It'll be about seven years before my oldest is ready. I've got several nieces that are growing up hunting and shooting. It's really cool to see the girls enjoying the outdoors that way. -
Nice RV-6A! I helped A friend of mine mount Lycoming engine serial number 300,000 a few years ago into his RV-8A. Pretty much the same airplane as the one you flew in but with tandem seating instead of side by side. He sold the thing a few months ago and I never got my ride. Now he's building an RV-10A to replace it. I'll make sure I get a ride in that one. I did got a ride in an F-16 a year ago and that was incredible! We did all of the basic maneuvers, barrel rolls, loops, Immelmans, split s's and a bunch of other stuff. We even pulled 8.3 g's at one point. The RV is quite a capable aircraft too, and I would jump at the chance to go up in one if offered!

In these challenging times of instant gratification and the 'it's all about me' attitudes, it says a lot about the character of the parents that were able somehow to instill the values of self sacrifice, greater good, and honor into these young people. My children are very young, and I hope I never have to send them off to those places. On the other hand, I hope that they will grow up with those kind of values whether or not they choose to serve. My Brother in Law is hoping to return home in December. We're praying for his safe return as well. Hats off to you and all of the other parents for raising such extraordinary kids. We pray for their safe return, and also a safe return for all of our young men and women.

Sounds like words of wisdom for life in general. Something we should all do. But skip the 'wreck the bike and body' part. Good luck, and God willing, a speedy recovery. BTW, if the answer to Pyro's qestion is yes, we will need to see pics as proof....

That's terrible news. I wish we didn't have so many posts like this, it seems that there are more and more of them every day. What a great thing it is to be able to be alone physicaly, while knowing there is a whole community of friends we may not even have met that genuinely share your pain. I wish there was a way to wrap a shield around everyone on this site to keep us all from having this kind of thing happen, but that isn't possible. God has his reasons for everything even though we cannot understand.
