  1. I have a Dunlop K591 in the rear (140/90 V16), and a Metzeler Marathon in the front (120/90 18 - 65H)
  2. My 1987 is looking pretty good for a 20 year old bike. However it has a few areas that show it's age. I have several cars which I keep in top shape, and I think it is time to get my VR up to par. The biggest issue is the aluminum in areas seems to have a haze or oxidation on it, with the rear footrests being the worst. The trim around the front fairing and rear saddlebags also seems to have some along with the trunk rack. I only see a few small spots on the engine, but I am not sure what the best way to address it is. The brake and clutch reservoirs do not look good and probably need to be replaced. A few of the emblems have started to discolor a little, while others look new. The paint is in very good to great shape. The seats are in perfect shape, mainly due to me using Aerospace 303 on them. I've made a commitment to ride it a little more often, and when I take it out, I want to with all the pride a 1st Gen deserves. So what say you, oh great bike waxers of the forum?
  3. So who else is going besides me?
  4. According to everything I have been able to gather, you need to do this mod for the Odyssey. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=489
  5. This is a little off topic, but I am beginning to notice that there is a friendly rivalry between 1st and 2nd gen bike owners. I have had 2nd gens come into my threads with playful suggestions to get rid of my 1st and upgrade to a 2nd gen. I might be biased, but I really like my 1st gen, especially since I've never ridden a 2nd gen. Even if I did, why "upgrade" when you already have a great bike.
  6. A friend at the National Hurricane Center. He knows whats coming before anyone else. When he is not at work, I turn on XM in the car, or weather.com
  7. To be honest I am not aware of the differences between the two having never rode a 2nd gen. That said, I enjoy my 1st gen and it does not feel like a typical touring bike, having a good get up and go. I don't ride often, but I can't imagine enjoying a different bike more than this one.
  8. That was interesting, thanks.
  9. I like how he showed class by dedicating the jump to Evil. Aussies are cool like that.
  10. While we must consider the source of the info, it is nice of you to have made the effort and then posted the reply.
  11. Thanks for the suggestions. I just wish I had used a little more common sense and spayed one little section for color fade rather than decide to do them both at the same time. At least I was smart enough to cover the painted areas with protection. I'll try Duralube a little later to see if that works.
  12. I wanted to loosen my fairing vents up since one was frozen, and two were hard to close/open. So I decided to spray some silicon on them, and what a mistake. They started to discolor almost instantly, and washing it off did not help. I was careful not to get any on the painted surfaces, but not my black vents have lightened in sections to a dull gray. Whats also frustrating is that it did not even loosen them up. So the moral of the story is not to use spray silicon on your plastic parts that are visible. BTW- my vents are so stuck or tight that I dare not try to close them with force for fear of them breaking. What is the best way to lube them up?
  13. Do they make air-conditioned grips?
  14. Well I guess I am the only Easy Rider You look for every opportunity to ride. You take the time in the wind to think. Think about life, your job, your family, crazy schemes and where the next gas is. The ride is not about how fast you went, or how far you rode. It is about the ride itself and you don't need to go fast or far to find happiness. Happiness is two wheels and a motor.
  15. At 27 degree, it is like the ice age to us. Granted it does not get that cold down here, but still who wants to deal with freezing temperatures. Heck that is why we pay extra to live live instead of suffering like everyone else.
  16. Helpful thread.
  17. I started this thread in another section, but thought it might be better here. I have a 1987 Venture Royale and need a few items. Most of these were lifted off the bike while at a shop getting a tune up. Rider and passenger attachable bags 1 Intercom/Radio volume knob Cassette deck cover Left engine side cover vent Needless to say if anyone has a line on these items please let me know.
  18. For those who were disappointed in not being able to get a Odyssey in the failed group buy, consider buying from this vendor at about the same price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320198955498&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011
  19. Heated grips? Do they make such things, and if so for what purpose?
  20. Sounds like a worthwhile cause. I am going to try and make the ride. Assuming you are going, when it gets a little closer PM me and lets see if we can meet up there.
  21. I indicated in the original thread that I would be in if you got closer and needed one more (was also predicated on me confirming the return issue). Rest assured I'll "live with it" with no problem whatsoever . Why not try ratcheting down your sanctimonious attitude a little while you are at it.
  22. In answer to your first question, the bike was not running right when I first got it, and has been in the shop the rest of the time. It does hold a charge, just not as well as one would expect from a brand new battery. I will either trade it in or get a refund. The GB was going to be good enough for me to get the refund and upgrade. Otherwise I will just exchange this one for another. As to your feelings on the ethics issue, that is your call not mine. I just don't see the harm in letting them know the situation and seeing if they want to adjust the number requirement. Another words if you feel uncomfortable suggesting they consider fewer people in the GB, mention how many you do have and let them make the next move. They might very well say 7 is too little, or hey we will do it for 7. The point is you are giving them info and an option to use that info if they so choose. I see no ethical issue if you approach it in that manner, but again, do what you feel comfortable with.
  23. Well then you would be incorrect as I just confirmed that I can get a refund since I am within the 30 days that a refund for a defective battery allows. This one has never really held a full charge, so it is covered. However if I don't pull the trigger in the next couple of days, that option is out the window. As to your "ethics" dilema, I don't see it that way. You made a good faith effort, and came up a little short. Telling the vendor what happened and seeing if he is interested in making a deal is still appropriate. Let's face it, he/they were not losing money, and are in the business of selling/moving product. So he might actually want the option to sell more batteries to clear shelf space or make a quota. The decision is of course yours, but if I were the vendor, I'd like the information/option.
  24. They should be willing to offer those same prices rather than setting an arbitrary date of 1/01/08 for a price hike. Then again, for me to be involved I'd need to pull the trigger quick otherwise my ability to return this current battery will be gone. For that matter why not see if they will lower the required number to 6 or so for the group buy?
