Hello BJBoomer, and welcome to the forum. -
Many of you might not have heard of him, but Dr. Judah Folkman was an amazing individual and we are all diminished by his passing. http://www.reuters.com/article/scienceNews/idUSN1554272820080116?feedType=RSS&feedName=scienceNews http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/cancer/ RIP

In honor of Leslie for ‘All’ our beloved fallen...
Z Factor replied to dragerman's topic in Watering Hole
I think it is a good idea in that anything we can do to improve safety and awareness is good. I'd also suggest a pro active approach to contact state legislators to try and increase the training and requirements for obtaining a drivers license. Including information in the booklets and including test questions related to motorcycles would be a good start. For instance, the following distance behind a motorcycle. Many drivers have no idea how fast a motorcycle can stop, and need to adjust their driving distance accordingly. The bottom line is that getting a driving license is much too easy and contributes to the overall problem on the roads. So further education and testing by the state (to include the aforementioned motorcycle info) would be a step in the right direction.- 29 replies

The white looking color is more of a cream, and you are the 2nd person to say the contrast color looks "grey". As to the repaint, no it is original. -

Great post, and thanks for taking the time to include pictures of your bike and the brochure. It has led me to an idea of how to get a more definitive way to determine the various colors. (see new thread) http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18566 Also thanks for the positive comment about my color combo. Please no, it is bad enough as it is. -
I am aware of the forum section that discusses the history of the Venture. It has a section for colors by year (link below). http://www.venturerider.org/modules.php?name=History#Colors%20by%20Year While the person credited for listing all the different variations is to be commended, I believe we need to take it a step further to include pictures of said colors. My reasoning is that some years came with multiple color combos, and in some cases, you cannot tell which color combo a particular V or VR has. For example, in 1987 it lists; 1987 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown 1987 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown among others, but several of us have not been able to distinguish between the color combos. So my proposal is to have fellow forum member post pictures of their bikes designating the color they have. Preferably, it will be based on paperwork they have on their bikes, or even better a color brochure of that particular model year. A good example would be the post below by mbrood which includes the 1986 brochure listing the different color bikes featured in it. The listed colors from year to year are as follows so far; 1200 1983 black TK Sparkle crimson ( single color ) 1983 red TK New Ruby Red/ Romanesque Crimson 1983 gold TDK Alluvial Gold/ Silky Gold 1984 gold DL/DK Alluvial Gold/ Silky Gold 1984 red L/KC2 Bright Cherry Red ( single color ) 1984 blue L/KC2 Orion Silver / Aurora Silver 1984 red DL/DK New Ruby Red /Romanesque Crimson 1985 brown DN Glorius Maxi Brown / Marshall Gold 1300 1986 gold DS/DT - - like 1200 gold - - 1986 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown 1986 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown 1986 black DS/DT Urushi Black/ Marshall Gold 1987 blue T ? Any updates? My unit is still losing the presets after two days of not riding. Has anyone determined who actually made our units? If I can get that info, I have a place in Florida that might be able to tell me if they could work on our units.

Ok, but according to the 1986 color chart, there were these different choices; 1986 gold DS/DT - - like 1200 gold - - 1986 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown 1986 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown 1986 black DS/DT Urushi Black/ Marshall Gold So while I tend to agree that the one you posted looks more like a copper color than mine, it still could be one of the others like the 87 choices. -
I agree with what you said to an extent. However compliance could be verbal orders to get into a safe position for the officers to make an arrest. So if an LEO instructs a suspect to lay down or to get out of a vehicle, and the suspect refuses, what would you have them do? From the other side of the coin, I think tasers are used too often just because the officer might not want to deal with delays in compliance, or an attitude from the citizen. We have all seen video of women that are upset or being stubborn getting tasered. If that woman were to die just because they were giving the LEO a little attitude, it would be criminal. The irony is that tasers have probably saved more lives than people realize. In the past, club or knife wielding suspects were often dealt with using lethal force (i.e. firearms). In those situations, the taser is a great LE tool that prevents the need for deadly force. In my view tasers need to be reassessed by an independent study to determine why several hundred people have died after being tasered. Presumably some of those deaths were not caused by the taser, but certainly some of them could be. The best thing that could happen from such a study would be to re-classify a taser as a less lethal weapon, not a non lethal one. Then different protocols could be established by the various law enforcement agencies to limit the use of the taser more so than is being currently being done.

That one certainly looks like more of a copper color. Out of curiosity, how do you know for certain it is the Copper & Birch color? -
The colors listed for the 87's are; 1987 blue T ? ( blue ) / Orion Silver 1987 grey T Aurora Silver/ ( ? ) 1987 gold DS/DT Alluvial Gold/ Silky Gold 1987 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown 1987 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown 1987 black DS/DT Urushi Black/ Marshall Gold So assuming the color list is complete, it would have to be one of the above.

Living in the land of palm trees, I wouldn't know what a Birch tree or it's woods looks like if I were hit in the head with a 2X4 made of it. Maybe we are going about this all wrong. Does anyone have a color brochure of the 1987 VR? I have a 1990 brochure that shows the two colors made that year. So presumably the 1987 brochure would have a color chart or pictures of the different color models offered.

This one might be the copper brown. http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/537058801.html If so, what does that make mine? -

Here is a thread (with pics) I started in 1st Gen asking which color combo I had for my 1987 VR http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18345 Also, is there any code on the VR that would decipher the color, or for that matter the year like many cars have? Thanks in advance

So guys, no opinion as to it's color? At the moment I can't find the paperwork on it which might indicate the color combo. Is there a color code located on/in the bike somewhere? Any educated guesses? -

Nice brochure -
According to the color chart here on the site, these were the colors for 1987 1987 blue T ? ( blue ) / Orion Silver 1987 grey T Aurora Silver/ ( ? ) 1987 gold DS/DT Alluvial Gold/ Silky Gold 1987 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown 1987 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown 1987 black DS/DT Urushi Black/ Marshall Gold Based on the above, I would guess my paint was either of the two in bold. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1294581/1987VentureRoyale002.jpg http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1294581/1987VentureRoyale001.jpg http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1294581/1987VentureRoyale003.jpg http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1294581/1987VentureRoyale004.jpg So, which color combo do you think I have, and is there any matching touch up paint out there? I know it is a long shot, but why not check. `

Tough call as I like them both. I like the look of the more aerodynamic bags of the early models, and the fact they are removable. However I like the larger capacity of the later years. Ultimately though I would go with the later years because of all the Royale "bells and whistles".

We will find out in the coming years whether EMF's cause cancer from all the cellular phone usage. Considering some people have them glued to their ear 24/7, it should not be too long before we find out for sure. In the mean time I will be riding.

I can't tell you the MSRP for 1986, but my 1987 was about $9,200 and the 1990 MSRP was $10,299 Hope that helps a little. -
