I can say that $99.00 shipped is a very good price as I was looking at $150-$160 just a few weeks ago. If you guys get close to the magic number, I will probably put you over the top as I think I can still return my cheap ProStart, though I will have to confirm. BTW- what is the CCA of the 680?

I think everyone will get a kick out of this picture http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/rsx_fan2003/monkeyman.jpg I'm wondering how long he could ride like that before his arms felt like falling off.

Rest assured I always wave back at people, especially if they are women. The funny thing is that Corvette owners do the same thing. There are also discussions about those who do not wave back as if it were obligatory to do so. In many instances, a new Vette owner will not even realize it is common practice. Although I don't ride much, between the bike and the ZR-1 I am waving more than I care to since we have so many motorcycles and Corvettes down here. Then again life is good, so why sweat the small stuff and get annoyed if someone does not wave.

Now it is the Carb!

I had similar problems like yours and Condors from having my bike sit for long periods of times. You can read about it in this thread and see the prices I paid. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17638 Good Luck -
As you know from helping me in my dead battery post, I went with a cheap ProStart from Pep Boys rather than drop 3x the money on an Odyssey. However if the price is right I would consider it as this battery does seem to be on the weak side. Put me down as a definite maybe.

Just a FYI for anyone interested. My total was about $650.00 for the following; 1 Diaphragm ASSY - 78.00 4 Pilot Screw Sets - 63.52 4 O-Rings - 12.12 4 Gaskets - 28.48 4 CAP - 20.36 4 CAP - 19.52 1 Solvent - 19.95 1 Misc - 5.00 4.95 hours - 371.25 I guess the moral of the story is ride more often or it can get expensive.

PM sent. This time it seems to have accepted it.

Thanks for the link, I have bookmarked it. Funny you should ask about it being a chop shop. The place has since gone out of business, but at the time they repaired and sold motorcycles. However I just heard the other day that the place was a front for a chop shop. I looked at my side cover vent and it is broken beyond repair and needs to be replaced. Thanks for the advice.

Great, I only need one. Thanks:clap2: I tried to send a PM but it says you are not receiving PM's. How do we get in touch?
-
Yes it gives you 16 different choices. Essentially it will have 88.1, 88.3, 88.7, & 88.9 then another station such as 92.1 thru etc., and so on. I live in a very large city with many little pirate stations trying to use the empty airwaves so if it works around here it should work just about anywhere.

I just wanted to give everyone my recommendation on a portable FM Modulator that you can use on your motorcycle. It comes with an adapter for use in a cars accessory port/lighter, but it is also portable via a set of batteries, so you can have it anywhere on you or the bike. http://www.buy.com/prod/cables-to-go-port-authority-2-mp3-to-fm-stereo-adapter/q/loc/111/10407003.html It's sound quality is the best I've heard from modulators, and it's convenience of being able to use it with any stereo tuner is a HUGE bonus.

Still looking for the parts. Does Yamaha still have OEM parts for our models. If not, is there a past depot anywhere that specializes in providing new or used parts for us?
-
Yes, I have changed them myself in the past, but as long as they are reasonable with their pricing, I would like to get it done there. Although I always like putting a high quality oil and filter in rather than some cheap stuff. I was just wondering what would be a fair price these days since it has been a while since I've priced any of those maintenance services.
-
They basically said they are charging me $90 per carb for their attempts to clean and now to rebuild them. While I think only 1 diaphragm is bad, a few "other rubber parts had become hard" and needed to be replaced? This is the first time using this shop. The service manager offered to have me come and look at what needed to be done, and they have kept my VR inside as promised. Whether these are reasonable prices or not is another issue. As to their warranty, I suspect they will give me something, but with my rep of not riding it that often, who knows what it would be. Also, I am thinking of having the oil, brake and clutch fluid replaced while it is there. Any idea as to a fair price?

If your radio is like mine, presumably you will still not know if your problem is solved if you corrected your battery connection problem just last night. My radio would hold the presets for up to a day, maybe even two, but then if I did not ride it in the intervening period of time, that is when they would be lost.
-
Yes, that is the price for the parts alone. According to them they tried to clean and acid wash the carbs two times and could not get them to sync. At least a diaphragm needed to be replaced along with a few other components. So based on the work they have already done and the work for rebuilding the carbs once the part comes in, it will be $90 per carb for a total of $360 in labor plus parts. Any thoughts?
-
So did any of us find and repair any loose connections resulting in an effective repair? Is there a place to send our units presuming we are not electronic repair guys?
-
It appears that I need a carb rebuild kit according to the shop I took my bike to. They said it will cost $250 + shipping. Any idea if this price sounds right, and what source/vendor would you buy it from if you are a do it yourself mechanic?
-
Well I am glad to see I am not the only one. However if others have this problem you would think that some of them have come up with fixes by now. Who is the manufacture of the radio unit, and are there any places that are known to repair them? The reason I ask is that several places like the one linked below that repair many different car stereo systems; http://www.carstereohelp.com/ If we can't find someone who has come up with a fix, we might be able to check with either the manufacturer or a stereo repair place for assistance.
-
I agree and it is very common with classic cars.

I have owned my VR for a long time and I have always had a problem with the radio stations not staying in memory. Granted there are times that I do not ride for long periods of time, so if the battery goes dead I would understand it. However if I don't ride it for several days, I must reprogram the stations. It has been like this since the first time I bought it back in the late 80's. Is this a common problem, and is there a fix for it?
-
Ok, the battery is charged and working. I have leftover electrolyte solution, and was wondering if it would be wise to keep it. In the past I have topped batteries off with distilled water, but couldn't I use the solution for topping off in the future?

They told me to fly a kite, so I never went back to them. They have since gone out of business, probably because of indifference to their customers.
