Has anyone ever really burnt a valve? -
Spark Plug Wrench
2WHEELSFORME replied to kkent66's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Plugs do not need to be changed often. If your bike is fouling plugs then you have another problem. I have an 05 with over 70K and have changed the plugs once about 25K ago. -
You solved a brake grabbing problem with using a kevlar pad that really grabs even better? I hated the way both my Ventures would lock up the rear brake with the smallest touch. Big change coming from a VTX 1800 that has linked brakes and almost impossible to lock the rear wheel. I installed a Life Saver on the rear and I'm very pleased. http://cyrilhuzeblog.com/2009/03/19/lifesaver-tcb-braking-control-system/

Wish they would not drive up the cost of used Ventures, mine is going to be worn out someday and I'll need another one.

The "NO QUESTION IS STUPID " rule is in effect here...
2WHEELSFORME replied to Barrycuda's topic in Watering Hole
1- what is the actual purpose of LOCTITE? What's the primary reason it is used? When do you use it, and WHY? Is is a preventive measure or after something occurs? Where does this apply and when would I need to use it if at all ... Used to keep bolts from backing out on thier own. I use it on the bolts holding the calipers to the forks and frame and any bolt they has unscrewd on it's own in the past. 2- I read all the time that those who change their own oil tend to use the Rotella T oil, or mobil1. The chaps at my dealer, who are long time guys, say that stock oil is just fine in Florida and may use the 20 weight in summer. Again...WHY are you guys using it and what are some of the many positives vs straight stock oil... I am interested in eventually changing my own oil and want to learn the why... Even the worst modern oil is very good so use any that meets the owners manual specs. Price is a consideration for some but many are anal about oil. Change often and your bike will break from something else first other than something caused by the oil you use. Then you can say "I have always used so & so and never had any problems." 3- i have read here before that the oil filter used most often is the purolator. It is actually written on the notes in the manual from previous owner. What makes that superior and WHY is it preferred. What model purolator? Google for an article about testing oil filters. Model? Do your looking because it is on this site somewhere. 4- what type of slime tire kit do most of you prefer. Anyone have a picture? I would not use a slime kit except in an emergency. I carry a tire plug kit made for bikes and had to use it once on a friends bike and it worked great. -
Yep I used to have a skunk. Loved the VOL. Even made it to a rally in Euricka Springs around 04 or 05, as well as the first one in Ducktown about 2001 or 02.

Are you having an overheating problem?
-
The links raise the rear of the bike making a already tall bike even harder for short legged people to flat foot the bike.

VERY STUPID THREAD! Sounds more narrowed minded than some HD riders. Who are YOU to judge someone for trailering thier bike? Lots of reasons for a REAL BIKER to trailer.

My tank emblems are gone and the eyebrows. I also have powder coated black the rear floorboards, rear crash bars, and both fender tips. Black painted the trim under the shield and the chrome trim around the trunk key hole. Looks better in my OP without so many chrome do dads.

RK mufflers/rsv heat sheilds
2WHEELSFORME replied to starriders777's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I used the stock covers. The clamps don't look as good to me and they cost more than a set of used stock muff. Can buy used ones if ever needing to go back and I don't have to store the old pipes. -
Still on original plugs at 42K.

It is just two sided tape. Not sure one brand is better than another. I found 3M at Home Depot and it works fine.

Mine has a terrible whine at certian RPMs. I try to avoid them but the best solution is I keep the music playing to drown it out. This is my second Venture and the first was the same way. I will not purchase another Venture although I love most things about this bike.

Midnight seats?
2WHEELSFORME replied to 2WHEELSFORME's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would trade my studded midnight seat for a non studded midnight seat. I do not want a pillowtop seat it has to be the firmer midnight type. -
Are any Midnight seat sets made without the chrome studs?

I really like what I've seen of the bike so far. And if it is big and heavy enough a woman can't get it off the side stand it may be big enough for me.

Problem removing lower fairing
2WHEELSFORME replied to Yamaman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You can just pull the fairing off. The nut is encased inside a rubber mount and it will pop out of the fairing. Mine got where it would not tighten up and just spin inside the fairing. I had to order a new one. It is a poor application. -
NO mine does not stick out. It is almost flush with the lower exhaust and inside the upper pipe.

Rebuilt the clutch on my RSV yesterday. After getting it back together I thought I would crank and do a warm up to check for leaks before putting the Stebel horn back on in case I had to go back in. Starter button only buzzed and the radio keep turning off. I checked my battery purchase date and it’s a year and half old so I go buy a new one. Yikes the problem is still here! Guess what? The Stebel mount bolt is a needed ground so after getting it back on all is well. Out some misery and 80 bucks but I have a new battery. LOL

Stay away! Google "prestige camera reviews" and read. The true price should be in the low to mid 600s. Also look at http://www.zumoforums.com

2WHEELSFORME replied to pegscraper's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Call John Gayne at PCW, super nice guy who will take the time to talk to you and explain things. You can get the springs, one plate and the gasket for $75 plus shipping or if you want the disks also it is $155 plus shipping. He promises it wil be better than a stock clutch. His number is 518-346-7203. -

Ouote: "Call me a little anal" Well then you are a little anal! Jack the bike up and take out the wheel already!
