Thanks for the look at todays news.

Thanks Kevin, I got your message and no hurry so take your time.

Still need a mirror if someone has one.
-
For a 2nd Gen, the oval type. Only need the part that has the mirror in it. Either side will do. Anyone got one they don't need? Mine is loose.

Electrical dead. Batt is fine. Power at the main 30 amp fuses but nothing at the dash. Going to the shop tomorrow. Very disapointing, first time I've had to trailer a bike home in six years and 90K plus miles.

If I cared anything about a 1st gen I would go into that section and read but I don't. -
Starglide conversion

Is's not clear what you are talking about. Are you calling starglide conversion the ability to remove the trunk? -
2nd gens rear brakes
2WHEELSFORME replied to Cutty's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes practice, that is important. But I've rode and owned serveral bikes including two Ventures and these bikes are the worst I've ever seen for touchy rear brakes. Knowing the bike and the proper brakeing procedure can overcome the problem but it should not be that way. I can also assure Kit that I can adjust his brake lever where he can not stomp on it if he truley thinks that the lever can not be adjusted so that it makes a differance. -
2nd gens rear brakes
2WHEELSFORME replied to Cutty's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I also got spoiled by the linked brakes on my VTX. This Venture is dangerous it locks up so easy. This week I'm getting new rubber, the leveling links and a green Life Saver Valve for the rear. I now will also lower the pedal and see if I get better at not locking the rear tire. -
I don't think removing just one bolt will make our bikes that ugly.

Mine are on order as well as new tires and the life saver brake thing. Hopefully putting them all on next week.

New antenna
2WHEELSFORME replied to 2WHEELSFORME's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
No part number but it is a universal antenna that can be found at several Automotive Parts places like Pep Boys ($10) or Advance ($5) and cost less than 10 bucks. It comes with a choice of several double threated nipples to use, one for ford, mopar, or imported etc. The smallest was threaded 10/32 so I used it. I have box of metric bolts and junk from takeoffs so I found one that fit the female theaded hole on the antenna mount and it is a common size bolt but is metric. Put the bolt head in a vice and drilled the center out and tapped it 10/32 to make an adapter or reducing bushing so to speak. Cut it off the desired length using only the threaded part and screwed it all together. I also had a rubber grommet laying around I used to make a smooth transistion between parts but it wasn't really needed. The other side the mount was just unbolted and tywraped under the trunk out of sight. Wireing/cables were left attached. Both sides can be returned to stock with ease. The under trunk light is a SOMA and has both run and stop functions and sells for I believe 50 bucks at J&P and other places. It says for Goldwings but comes with a mount for Ventures also. No drilling required. -
Didn't like the big whip antennas and I never use the CB so now I got a single short black one. Removed the CB mount and tied it up under the trunk. Got a short black rubber universial from parts store for about 5 bucks. I had to make the threaded adapter by drilling and tapping a bolt but it works great cost little and it is what I was looking for. http://bigbikeriders.com/photopost/data/500/2508antenna_cropped_red_2_.JPG

I hit the horn and the starter button at the same time and pow, no more power. I guess that was too much for the 30 amp main fuse. Lesson learned.

Just over 8K on a rear Mitchlin Comander. I run around 40 PSI and don't slide or burn out the tire. I read where others are getting much higher numbers. I got the bike with almost 8K on the odo and the OEM went to almost 12K. Is it me, the bike or the tire?

TCB Valve for rear brake
2WHEELSFORME replied to 2WHEELSFORME's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I guess not many know about this. Anyway I ordered the green giving the most slip and I'll let ya'll know if I feel it is an imporvement. -
I know from real world experiance that the 2nd Gens have a much too touchy rear brake. Or at least in the two that I have owned. I plan to install the TCB Lifesaver Valve and I'm not sure which level of slip I need. I thinking either the 30-40 green or the 40-50 red. Anyone have one already mounted and can post results?

Might as well put in NOS also. Or even look at a turbo charger. Both those prob cost about the same as what your talking about. Hey maybe go get a VTX-1800 or Vulcan 2000 and bolt all your Venture stuff on one of those and then go with the NOS. I know the turbo charger can be had for the 1800 motor.

would you buy a RSV again?
2WHEELSFORME replied to stvmaier's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
No I will not buy another RSV untill they solve that stupid whine it produces. I'm sick of it and it is even heard by other bikes I ride with. A bike this expensive should not sound this way. Love the looks and the ride but hate the sound. -
dome lights for luggage
2WHEELSFORME replied to Howie257's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
First I put a dome type light with a built in switch inside the trunk. It had a plastic cover that would come off if it got bumped. Got rid of it and installed two tag lights, one on each side of the trunk. Drilled and bolted them to lips found inside trunk. I also mounted a rocker switch to control them. The tag light are much more tuff and chrome so look nice. Ran a fused dedacated power supply to the battery.
