  1. Glad you got this corrected, Dennis. Hope you have a G-R-E-A-T trip. Keep us all posted on your adventures. Joe & Donna
  2. I can't speak to your concern about the TPMS, but I installed the beads in my non-TPMS wheels that do have the 90 degree valve stems. Not hard at all. While using the tube and squeeze bottle that I got with my beads, I simply tapped on the valve stem with a screwdriver. The vibration causes the beads to feed in easily past the bend. Joe
  3. This is a case of "getting what you pay for" in the digital world. Even though your L110 is a great point and shoot camera, it isn't a true SLR camera. The higher end Nikons such as the D3100 series are SLRs. You don't get the shutter delay with them, you can pretty much push that button as fast as you want and it will fire every time. My son, who did some semi-professional photography for awhile, had a Nikon digital SLR and it was amazing what that camera could do. Of course, he paid $700 for just the camera body....and it was used.
  4. I think Goose was responding to Latchkey.....
  5. Welcome to the best motorcycle site on the Internet!! You got such a great deal on that bike!!! Now, since you paid so little, spend a measly $12 and become a supporting member. Trust me, you will need the ongoing advice of the RSV pros on this site. And, at the end of your first year's subscription, I am betting that you will think that $12 is as good a deal as the low price of your Venture was. Good luck! Joe
  6. Get a Kuryakyn (or similar) hitch that has the vertical drawbar tube, then you don't have to have a hole in the fender. I have a rack that I use on mine, it is great. Used to have a trailer, pulled it on one trip. Then sold it and have used the rack since. I carry a plastic tote bin on mine...pretty good size and waterproof. Got it from WalMart. The rack is a great item, IMO. Joe
  7. No, the gas tank doesn't have to come out. But it sure isn't a fun job!
  8. I've yanked rear wheels on both Goldwings and RSVs. Nope, you can't (reasonably) do it on a Venture. On the Wing, nothing has to be removed except 5 lug nuts. On the Venture you have to remove the axle, which involves removing stuff from the right and left sides. It would be so much easier with a proper lift. Eight days ago I changed my rear wheel and tire on my 1800 Wing. Had the tire already mounted on my spare wheel. This is the third time I've done it so I know the pattern. From the time I laid it down until the time I stood it back up was a whopping 7 minutes! But let's not talk about changing air filters!
  9. If I were in Pete's shoes, I'd probably be dragging my feet too. Yamaha isn't being forthcoming about the future of the RSV, so why invest a lot of money in development? If they do come out with an updated touring bike, it likely won't have the C-Buss interface. It just doesn't look too promising for a company to invest in modifying a product for compatibility with 1999 technology.
  10. Last July coming back home from a Colorado trip, did 800 miles in 13.5 hours. I was trashed....not something I want to do every day.
  11. Wal-Mart. Super Tech 7317. And independent testing lists it among the top quality filters that you can buy.
  12. Hey, Bronson....found this: http://venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=380679&postcount=13 Forty bucks doesn't sound too bad, if it doesn't fix the problem and you have to take it to the dealer, at least you won't be out $200. Joe
  13. Someone has posted previously about an aftermarket pump (NAPA, I think) that will work, and for much less $$, thinking it was under $50 bucks. Maybe someone will chime in with a link to that thread.
  14. While I never did it, I have read from others that it is perfectly safe and will run fine. Just don't let it get low on fuel....I seem to recall that the advice is to keep it above half a tank and you won't have issues. Joe
  15. Yeah, I think you are on the right track. From my experience with my last RSV (the one I put an I-basket in), I believe that it has a lot to do with the clearances between the teeth on the gears. When I first put the new I-basket in, almost all the whine was gone. Within 500 miles some of it had returned. Within a thousand miles, I'd say that 50% of it was back. I then sold the bike so don't know what happened after that. But that experience leads me to believe that as the gears "wear in" to each other and the clearances get a bit looser, we get more whine or chirp. Maybe I'm wrong and there is another explanation, but this is the only one I can think of. I too have always wondered why the 1st Gens don't have the problem, at least not to the degree that the 2nd Gens do. Same basic engine.....just strange.
  16. Well, if the truth was known...and it will be now...I have no right to make fun of you, since the reason I bought the tool is that I could not figure out a genius contraption like the one you made, and broke the inner clutch boss trying to use the wrong tools for the job. So you're miles ahead of me, my friend!
  17. That brings a lot of other words to mind too......but I better not share those. We've had enough spats on this forum lately! :confused24:
  18. You can get the tool through ebay pretty cheaply. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Tusk-Clutch-Holding-Tool-Motorcycle-ATV-UTV-Tool-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3f072aa6b3QQitemZ270703175347QQptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools
  19. Figure I should have it by Monday at the latest. The one I have in it now actually would serve for a weekend. If it is ridden daily, it holds charge. Let it set for a week or so and it won't crank anymore. Stinking monsoons ever let up I wouldn't even have a problem!! Can't wait for our ride! See you soon. Joe
  20. Well, so far I am royally impressed with Tri-State Battery Warehouse. I got an email confirmation: 1. When I placed my order 2. When they charged my CC 3. When the battery was in process of being packaged 4. And minutes ago, when it was picked up by UPS! The entire process took 5 hours from order to shipment, and, so far I haven't found a better price. WooHoo!!!! Joe
  21. I hate the wet cell batteries. I'm too fergitful to remember to check the water level properly. Usually get less than expected life from one and it's normally my own fault. So I'll pay the extra $10 or so and have one that requires no memory to maintain!
  22. Battery on my 03 decided it was going on permanent disability, so I went in search of a new Deka ETX20L AGM battery. This is generally accepted as the one at the top of the heap as far as batteries for the 1800 are concerned. American made, maintenance free AGM, high CCA, one year warranty. Wanted to let you all know that I found what appears to be the best price at Tri-State Battery Warehouse online. It is $77.95 including shipping. Ordered first thing this morning, already have confirmation of the order, I'll let you know how fast they ship. http://www.tristatebattery.com/product_info.php?products_id=981 Joe
  23. For highway pegs, take a look at my pix of my 2003. They work great for me, and my inseam is a tad less than 29". Should work great for you.
  24. Hey Annie, looking at all the pix of your new lady.....she's purty fer sure. But...is there really not a rear view mirror on the right side? Not sure I've ever seen a modern bike without 2 rearview mirrors. Or am I just blind???
