Keep An Eye On Your Rear Shock
chollahan replied to M61A1MECH's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Mine got to the point where the entire boot and some of the suspension arms were covered in oil. I had been under there quite a bit trying to track down an electrical problem prior to it going out, so I knew for sure what was going on when it went from dry but dirty to oily and dirty. Plus, I could actually see several drops that were fixin to fall from the lower most part of the shock a couple of times. -

I just replaced my shock on my '99 a couple of weeks ago. Had about 27k and change when it went out and leaked all over the place. I was lucky, and even though it took forever to get to me, found one on ebay that I got for 75.00 off of an '05. Still look every now and then on ebay and they are mostly going for 250-300 range. -
Does anyone ride with no windshield ?
chollahan replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Same here. I took mine off for a day and rode into work.........my neck was so sore the next day I could hardly stand it. W/S went right back on! I've gotten spoiled to the windshield. But to answer the question, if I were to go the no W/S route, I would get a very short, dark tinted WS, like street glide short. -
While riding down in the hill country a couple of weeks ago, we noticed some "share the road" decals that had been applied to foldable (ice warning, etc.) signs. I have started seeing them North of Dallas now as well.

I had the problem of not getting pressure on the clutch and posted in frustration. Went back out and remembered that another guy had the same problem. Did a search and found that I needed to let the mightivac suck more fluid through and went back out to the garage. Sure enough, it worked!

Super nice ride!!!!!!!!! My wife has dictated that that is what she wants next after seeing my friend's wing. She fell in love with the back seat area. I also compared the picture of your control area with that of an F-16....................I can't decide which has more screen and buttons! Is that the Nav screen?

You'll get nothing but patience and thanks from me. I about jumped in front of a bus after working at getting my gallery set up on my server. I would think a forum would be quite a bit more of a chore. Thanks for all your hard work.

We hit two of the three sisters 2 weeks ago. We skipped 337 cause it is supposedly under repair and is gravel in some spots, (or so we were told). God bless the hill country!

I have been looking at some on ebay. Most are either single or dual fire. If one of the two would work on a venture, which one would it be?

I am doing some research on this thing about the luggage rack. I missed a smokin deal on a trunk on ebay the other day so I'm probably gonna get a tall upright for an original RS. From what I have seen, it looks like the upright and luggage rack from a road star/royal star will fit. -
Donation paypaled! Thanks for all your work!

Salty, I have the early style and have been eyeballing the pillow type that are on ebay right now. The tailbone is what kept getting me on the trip. I would have to lean up and let my legs hang down to take the pressure off and that would buy me another 20-30 min. before I had to do it again. What are opinions about what might make the best difference? Different seat or adding a backrest?

After taking our first long ride this past weekend, and both of our hind quarters aching a bit, is there enough of a comfort difference between the regular seats and the pillow top seats? This is to passengers too. And while I'm on it, how much of a difference is there between the stock seats and an aftermarket, corbin, mustang, etc. in terms of long term comfort?

This is the only site I would be up to paying for. So whatever we need to do, I'm in.

We saw a small kawasaki down in Leaky (sp) this weekend. It had Shiner stickers on it. My hopes were dashed when the rider told me it was a aux gas tank so she wouldn't have to fill up every 100 miles.

radio stoped working
chollahan replied to Just-Jack's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well, you can throw me into this mix as well. My problems started this past Friday. I had previously took EVERYTHING off of the front to tighten up the head nut. We were taking off for a trip to Kerrville and noticed that about 10 minutes from the house the radio would cut out occasionally and then quit workin all together. So I left it off till Saturday. It was working fine and figured I had a loose wire or I had gotten something wet when I washed it before our trip. well, Sunday, on our way back home, I notived that the squelch display was showing up, even though I had not turned the CB on. My CB would come on on its own and I would loose all control on then radio with teh exception of volume. I am gonna crack it tonight and make sure some dielectric grease fixes the problem. -
New shock install
chollahan replied to chollahan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've got my fingers crossed. It is not spotless, i.e. it has some dirt on it, but I have looked at it close and can not see any sign of fluid on it. I'm hopin it can make it till I can mortgage the house for one of those custom shocks. -
New shock install

A total grease job is in order as well. I stole the shock off of ebay for 60 clams! Took me a while to get it from the seller, but hey, it's here now and looks in good order. I was looking on ebay the other day and saw only one from a 2005 listed and it was up to 200 and something bucks! I got a front elite3 off of ebay as well for 60 bucks too. Unfortunately I don't see myself getting such a good deal for the back though. -
Well, my new (2005) shock came in the mail the other day and I'm gonna try to get in on this coming weekend. The only problem is that since this is off of a 2005 it is the new style, (unlike the one off of my 99. I do not know where to put the extra hose, (not the one for the air).

I took my trunk off and am looking to trade my trunk mount for a passenger backrest from a tour deluxe. I posted in the classifieds. Any takers?
