I know myself, Salty, Dakotasport and Bubbajbi have made the switch. I was just looking to see who all has done this. I like the venture cause it is a rare bike to see out there, but even more rare to see them in STARGLIDE form. The first time I saw the term starglide was on Dakotasport's sig and I love it. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Boy, I bet that was a nice ride. There were a bunch of bikes out that day and all through the weekend. Killed me not to be able to ride.

Passed by a good size group of folks riding north on SH121 through Melissa this morning on my way to work. Saw at least one ventutre, (millenium white). Anyone from here in the group?

What unmarked cars are they using in your state
chollahan replied to muffinman's topic in Watering Hole
I have seen Texas DPS using Chargers in the hill country and they have a large addition of Tahoes through out the state as well. I know that here in Collin County DPS tested at least one car that was all black several years ago. They are normally black and white. -
My Sick 2nd Gen (long overdue update)
chollahan replied to Cerviperus's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I am having the same problem with mine. After getting it back from the stealer (460 plus for soldering a wire in a harness and new battery) who fixed my coil problem. No coil problems now, but very strong smell of gas and poor milage. Figured I'd change all my plugs and give the carbs a thorough cleaning. -
The fella who used a Vstar upright.....was it from an 1100? I found a good deal on the fender mount from a roysl star. It fits, now I just have to find a good deal on an upright and pad that will fit.

I mounted my cb in the left side saddle bag and it works like a champ. Went to the local truck stop and bought 2 angle connectors and 2 angle brackets and mounted the ant. on the lower bag supports out back.

I bought mine without one and I have not seen how I have missed out that much. If I go on long trips I just bungee the bag onto the back seat. I am going to try to put a sissybar on there for when mama rides though.

My 2nd Gen is sick...
chollahan replied to Cerviperus's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not trying to jack the thread or anything, but I just called and checked on my bike after they have had it for 2 weeks. It's not a good thing when they tell you it may be a "gremlin thing" and they may have it for a week or two more. -
My 2nd Gen is sick...

Mine did the same thing, but is caused by an electrical problem that is making my coils go bad on the back cylinders. I troubleshot as far as I could and had to take it to the stealer and see if they could figure out what the problem is. I have gone through 3 coils so far. As soon as I would replace it, it would burn up on the test run. -
Well after all my coil problems, I finally took it to a local shop. At first he said it was the coil, (said I had replaced a bad coil with another bad coil), but after he switched the back coils, he said the good one would not fire and that it was a problem further up the line. Not the pick up coil or a switch, cause the bike runs, it just runs like crap. Surges and misses while riding on 3 cyl. I got a steal on ebay on 4 used coils and boots and a new ignition module. I'm gonna replace them this weekend and hopefully when I fire it up it will run right and keep on running right.

Need second opinion

Well, once again i may be wrong, ( I hate that). I decided to take my bike to a local shop and have him trouble shoot just to make sure of the problem. In the process of putting it back to gether, a strange thing happenned. i touched a plug wire on the right side and I got a bit of a shock. At least i know that back right coil is outting out juice, just don't know why i got lit up. -
Ok, here's how my story goes. I posted a while back about my coiil going bad. I checked the coild, the resistance was bad, bought another coil. After putting it on if croaked after only 50 miles. Got it back home and tested it, resistance off. Book said to check pickup coil. Best I could tell, I tested it and it was with in specs. Went trolling around on the delphi boards and from what I read, if a pickup coil goes bad, it goes all the way bad and the bike won't run anylonger. Same for the ECU, if it goes bad, it goes all the way bad and the bike won't run at all. My bike will run, it's just on 3 cyl. Would it be anyone elses opinion that that seems to rule out the pickup coil and ECU? I'm thinking I got a hold of a 1 in 50 OEM coil that was bad. I can't think of any other reason why only one coil would go bad. Any ideas??????????????

Well, had my guy order me one from a vstar 1100. Got home, put it on and could tell right away that it was working. Took it out for a test run and it was great to have power again, felt something that felt like missing when I got on it, but it was very sporadic so i passed it off. Rode to work the next day and it was good. Got back on that night to head home and as soon as I cranked it over I could tell something was wrong. Sure enough, after I got out to highway speed I tried the cruise and it flashed me the error code for a bad coil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stopped to check and make sure teh connectors diodn't come off, (unlike the venture coil, the vstar does not have a spade connector that is smaller than the other so I had to force it on one of the posts). Everything felt fine, rode it home on 3 cyl. I am thinking it has to be a problem with one of the wire connectors? I would think there is no way this brand new OEM coil could go out in 50 miles! I'm gonna check some more when I get home from work today, in the mean time, any ideas???????????????????

Looking to get a tach for my bike. Anyone have any recommendations for a good, yet reasonably priced one? Also, what is the popular mounting location?

I just found the same thing on my '99 the other day when I was up undernieth it taking the bad coil out. Think there is a chance they would replace it off of a '99 for free .99? One of the posts above said they replace a 2000 out of warranty. If not, how much would one of these run me if I put it in myself?

Well, here is the update on my problem. Had a strong smell of gas coming from left exhaust (narrows it down to left side). I tested coils and pulled plugs after riding for a bit. Back left plug was wet. Sure enough, when I finally got teh multimeter figured out, the back left secondary coil had gone bad. Got one ordered. It can't get here quick enough!!!!!!

Ok, thanks. I am not very wise to the electronics world. I didn't know how close it could be off to still be considered ok. I have since narrowed it down to either of the left side coils. I can smell a strong gas smell coming from the left pipe and a loss of power towards the upper end. went for a trip to fill up today and my milage has dropped by 10mpg! I gotta find the coil up front on the left side. I have looked briefly but could nnot find it. the manual is not very specific. Any clues on where I should begin to look?

Well, i got to testin 3 of the 4 coils and wires, (still haven't found the fourth coil). All tested fine with the exception of the back left wire. It tested lower then normal resistance, 9.50 ohms. How do you replace the wires? looks to me they are fastened to the coil and are all one piece?

Anyone have a coil go bad on them? I got some bad gas a week or so ago right after I sea foamed her. Erratic idle and ran like crap. Filled up with good gas and cleaned the carbs real good. Idle smoothed out, but when I get on it, or under load, it just doesn't feel like the power is what it was before. Oh yeah, changed the plugs too. I hit the cruise the other morning and got the 5 blink code on my cruise control lights. I have also been riding in quite a bit of rain with this Texas monsoon going on. Anyone have any ideas or have had the same problem?

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure it disolved, causer I sloshed and sloshed and never did see it float. But just to know for sure, I'm gonna drop the other in a cup of gas test just to make sure.
