"Proper Tool for Proper Job, Air Shocks"
CaptainJoe replied to DanC's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Pickinfred ordered a device for him and I that links both front shocks together allowing one to "equally" air up both shocks. -
Not me! Perhaps some just have dirty minds? LOL Seriously though... About the politics thing... If you really want to get into debates go to your hometown online newspaper... mine is the WWW.Wvgazette.com Granted there are a few idiots on these online papers that try to ruin it for everyone but that becomes apparent in a couple of posts. Nastiness drew to the point the moderators are now screening each post... I must be getting old because I always always taught to never say something to, or about, someone that you wouldn't say to their face...

It's a wonder someone hasn't made a simple GPS that you hide on the bike. If you carried the information you could contact the provider and they could tell you/police exactly where the bike was currently. Actually, for that matter you could just leave your cell phone on the bike and do the same thing...

My wife 5' 4" 120 lbs but won't ride with me either. She'd rather ride her own bike??? Go figure.

Just looked at my factory tires... front: 6" wide Dunlop 404F 75R-000367 150/60-16 MC 71H Rear: +6 5/8" wide Dunlop D404 P2363 M2 150/90B-15 MC 74H I'd say there isn't much room on either side of the front tire. Someone said the got 20,000 miles out of a Avon front.. What does the dunlop E3's get?

My exaact words were "I also believe there is something to the " pushing the envelope group" that may take tires among other things to their limits." The faster and more aggressively you ride the more likely you are to find potential problems with your bike. example: develop head shake on a bike going 35 mph pucker factor high develop head shake on a bike going 135 mph your probably not going to live to talk about it. cornering at the posted speed limit normally never a problem cornering at twice the posted limit pray there isn't any gravel or anything unexpected ahead cause thats what your having for lunch. exceeding max speed limit by 15 mph: well this one is apparent. The faster you go, your odds go up exponentionally for something happening. Wether it be from the difference in speed between you and others, or something that may need adjusted on your bike (head bearings, tire pressure, tire balance, front fork pressure etc...so on and so forth) Everything gets magnafied when your pushing the envelope. My point being, If I wanted a bike to fly down the interstate it would be a hayabusa GSX1300R as they are set up for SPEED. (186mph self imposed limitation) their tires are rated for high speeds. It wouldn't be the RSV. It catchs way to much wind, is top heavy and last but not least "It's a Touring bike".

I just want a 3/4 DOT approved helmet, with a fully functional face guard, painted in the scheme of the PITTSBURG STEELERS NFL helmets It would be exactly the same as the NFL helmets but everything on the helmet would have to be strengthened to the standards of a full face helmet. That way it would protect you face and you would still be able to get all the air you wanted. Don't know why someone hasn't come up with this yet... Is that really to much to ask? for us football fans?

Good to know. BigBoyinMS I just dont want to go to a narrower front tire than what I have now. I believe the width helps overcome many of the imperfections in the road. comes from years of riding a 10 speed bike...but thats another story How wide is your front tire compared to your kumho?
-
My intent on starting this poll was so that I, and possibly others, could make an informed decision if they were thinking about the possibility of running a car tire. I though it would be Kind of nice to know how many tried this and didn't like it and vice versa. Based on the data collected, I am going to buy a Kumho tire and try it... I also believe there is something to the " pushing the envelope group" that may take tires among other things to their limits. I don't ever ride over 85 mph and even then, I'm probably passing someone. I'm not overly aggressive in the turns either. Hey, this is a touring bike, not a crotch rocket... So, with all of that in mind I'm going to give it a try. Now i need to pick a wide front tire that gets +20,000 mile so I can match up width profiles on both tires.

If you follow Freebirds instructions it is extreemely simple... Just make sure when your taking your carbtune hoses off you grab them at the very end. I lost about an Inch or so off of one of my tubes as the rubber they are made of is extreemely soft...

Average Tire life by brand
CaptainJoe replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well you see for example 1 description, I actually broke down the weights, so that people could see how i added them up. Thats also why in the example 1 format, I just used the "combined total"... that way, I nor noone else will be able to tell how much your accessories or luggage weighs let alone the riders weight...LOL I will be usiing this to determine the best motorcycle milage for each of the brands/models. Would like to post average milage for each tire after a week or so. Avons Dunlop 404s Dunlop E3's and then some car tire totals These will be a lot highter "I'm guessing" -
Just need Wether you ride 1 or 2 up and approx weight of riders and accessories and luggage and include 35-40 for toungue weight of trailer. Brand name/model for both the front and rear tires, the milage traveled and how much tread is left on them when you change them out example 1 - rider is 230 lbs with 40 lbs of accessories and 50 lbs of luggage" example 2 - the riders are 180 and 130 lbs with 40 lbs accessiories, 50 lbs of luggage and pull a trailer (add 40 lbs.for tongue weight) Don't need the weights broken out as I don't want to be nosy. Just want to comparre tire life expectancy. Please use format listed below just copy and paste and change the info... Thanks Joe Used myself as example1... Example1: 1 up, 320 lbs (riders/accessories/luggage combined), +35 lbs no trailer but use a cooler rack Dunlop 404 Front 6,300 mi. 5/32" remaining Dunlop 404 Rear 6,300 mi. 6/32" remaining Example 2: 2 up, 400 lbs (riders/accessories/luggage combined), +40 lbs with trailer tongue weight Dunlop E3 Front 15,000 mi. 3/32" remaining Kuhmo c/t Rear 28,000 mi. 4/32 or 1/8" remaining

2nd Gen Dunlop E3 Front tire size
CaptainJoe replied to Brian D.'s topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Let me get this straight... You've got a Dunlop 404 front tire with 26,000 miles and you want to change tire brands? How many miles can you expect from the dunlop E3's front and rear? What does you center tread measure right now? The reason I'm asking is I have 6,300 miles on an 07 RSMV with the origional Dunlop 404's. As per inspection standards, you can run them down to 3/32nds... My Current tire tread measurements are: Front 5/32 Rear 3/16 -
If the brackets unbolt completely, you could cut or grind old welded nut off and weld or braze a new metric nut on on. Once something is cross threaded it kind of limits your options. Or, you could drill out and tap with next size larger but I would still keep metric if possible..

Big Tom, I know how you feel cause I went through it as well. I'd take a little time and think about it though as it's really not Morgans fault, it's homeland securitys, Morgans hands are tied... Can you imagine how many irate customers they are dealing with?... Hey, it could be worse, you, could be the one that has to answer the phone for Morgan Carbtune... That plus when I got it, i'll be danged if I'd send it back... They really are worth the money. If you want , and pay the shipping I'll lend you mine...

Depending on how long its been leaking you may want to trade it in... Campers are notorioous for leaking on the front corners where it rots the corners completly out. If you are somewhat the carpenter and are handy with your hands its not a big deal. However be prepared to deal with whatever you uncover... Go on the inside corners halfway down wall and push carefully. Essentially, you have a 1" x 3/4" x 8' frame sandwitched between panelling and aluminum siding with 3/4" foam sheets in between. Hope everything turns out ok... Joe

Hopefully its not to this point: http://www.rvforsaleguide.com/trailer-repair/rv-trailer-repair.htm

To replace roof take front and back corners off take everything off of the roof take top corners off (and maybe first piece of siding) install new rubber roof membrane seal as previously stated This is a big job but do-oable. (Rare that you would have to replace entire roof unless it was damaged or old and brittle...)
-
You need a big garage or some warm clear weather. Those roofs get to leaking because they start rocking back and forth cracking the upper and front corners. Check you ceiling inside the camper at the corners. There is only one or two campers that don't do this and it is because the have aluminum frames, hence no rocking... take outer corners off front and back 8-10' long remove old white sealant from corners of roof clean replace old sealant pepack corners reinstall corners your good to go for 3-5 years
