  1. Well, we're halfway thru the SECOND QUARTER and the scores 14 to 0 in the Packers favor. They are running very strong at this point. Do you think President Obama will go to the SuperBowl at Cowboy stadium if the Bears don't make it?
  2. The future of the Venture is going to be years and years for me.... I love the bike and it long range touring capabilities. A 500 mile ride is comfortable.
  3. 7 hours 23 min to the first game today... Anyone else gonna want to make a prediction? Anyone want to change theirs? Yammer Dan?
  4. When I was in the Airforce boot camp, lackland AFB back in 1979, we had a cadence, " My boots are heavy, my belts tight, my something is shifting from left to right , sound off..." Now how did that go???? Also have to agree with Ctaylor... Now where in the heck did I put my putter?
  5. check the voltage to your good light recpticule then the bad, they should be same. Put dielectric grease on prongs of light. If same voltage ...it's the light. you could also try swaping the lights...
  6. I like Red Rose tea straight. Easy to make on trips, and, less fattening than coffee As I can't drink coffee without milk or cream. Twinnings French Vanilla is my favorite!
  7. I swear, if I have to fly I'm gonna eat massive doses of cabbage before I go and they can frisk me all they want! WhooooooooooooooooIE!
  8. YIKES! Saddle times.......... 800mi = 16 hrs? 900mi = 18 hrs? 500mi = 10 hrs? Calculated assuming an average of 50 MPH! Gonna make for some Loooooooooong days! If you do make it we might have to look into giving you some sort of IRON BUTT award! Afraid I'd have to take the cage if you only have "3 days"...
  9. Gary, by the way, that is a nice setup up you have. I'll do just about the same thing but will build the lights into the platform like the $200-300 ones from Rivco. Atop that, I will place as nice of a cooler as I can find that is 24" L X 12-16" w X 16" H That way I'll be able to take the cooler off and install some stands so that I can haul longer items upright(metal detectors shovel etc.) Noticed the pipes are only going to be about 2 inches below the cooler. Did you have any problems with exhaust heat? also anyone else have pics of their receiver racks/setups to haul the extras?
  10. GaryN, Im thinkin they are coverin their butts also as I know some husband and wife combos that exceed 419 lbs. keithR, good idea out of aluminum... bit expensive with the lights I can make out of 1/16" X 1 1/4 X 1 1/4 square steel stock that is strong enough for a max weight of around 40-60 lbs . Thanks Guys!
  11. I already have 3 trailers that sit around most of the time. Plus.. don't they have t be licensed and inspected? If I did buy one it would be the Unigo as I like their design. Would mainly use to haul my wifes metal detector and folding chairs etc... Hence the "hitch route"
  12. so total load capacity for on your bike was : you your wife accessories cargo: left and right saddle bag trunk cooler + overnite bag Maximum Load Capacity 419 lbs as per page 1-3 of Owners Manual(O.M) XVZ13TFW© & XVZ13TFMW©: "which includes total weight of rider, passenger, accessories, and cargo must not exceed load capacity shown in the owners manual." as per Warning 1-6 of O.M. I'm 230lbs. 419-230=189 figure 20 lbs in each saddlebag +20 in trunk is 60 as per warning on page 1-6 of O.M. 189-60= 139 ***no passenger*** my wife likes to ride her own motorcycle, and she won't let me have a "female riding friend".... 139-19 lbs of accessories = 120 lbs (saddle bag crome, trunk rack, highwaybars, drink holders, trunk wing, back rest etc...) so I've got 120 lbs left?... So......... I'm think'n I could get away with 60 lbs for a "Total" receiver weight which includes the weight of the container / frame and lights... This would give some "wiggle" room to help compensate for the cantilever effects...
  13. So with the overnight bag you were probably closer to 60 lbs?
  14. hitchdocs website says: For more information, please call 1-800-446-8222 or email us at questions@hitchdoc.com WARNING!!! Do not exceed the motorcycle manufacturer's Gross Vehicle weight limit when loading and pulling ANY trailer with ANY motorcycle. HitchDoc motorcycle trailer hitches are made with 3/8 inch and 1/4 inch plate steel. ALL HitchDoc motorcycle trailer hitches have a MAXIMUM tongue weight load of 40 pounds. Tongue weight must NEVER EXCEED 10% of the GROSS TRAILER weight including ALL CONTENTS AND CARGO.
  15. Thanks! Joe
  16. Anyone know what it is.... Where to find it? max load on a 2nd Gen Venture is 419 lbs. most trailers say 10 to 15% toungue weight, so 200lb trailer would be 20-25 lb. unigo trailers say 33% tongue weight, of a 180lb loaded trailer so 60Lb. Am looking into creating a trunk like luggage carrier fully supported by the receiver hitch.. Can't find any documentation from Yamaha that says one way or the other...
  17. I'm with pickinfred... Don't change anything Lilbeaver.... We need something to do as long as we're snow bound... besides, if she does have a crush on you:duck:, it will make it that much more of an interesting read!
  18. Thats the best advice I've heard... Use smiley face money! WaaaaaaaHooooooooo! :mo money::mo money: Wonder if our vendors will accept it?
  19. I don't see a problem with it either, as long as she doesn't have a problem with him hanging out with another woman "singular" while she goes on her bike rides. Guess that's the problem I'm seeing. If my girlfriend went on bike rides with one, and only one guy, would I be jealouse...Definately! If my girlfriend went on bike rides with a group of guys or MC club, would I be jealouse...NOPE! Having a relationship where a woman has cheated on him should make him acutely aware of this... Perhaps I'm old fashion but I can tell you for a "fac-toh-mondo", my wife would not like me riding around with another woman regardless of how much I told her "we were just friends...."
  20. Well... What I want to know is, did you make the entire transformation to HD? Did you buy a HD leather Jacket? You'll know, especially when you can't pass a HD store without stopping and buying something. My brother-in-law drives me CRAZY with this on our trips. I told him it's like a CULT or something... Although I do like those HD maps he carries around. They show the best routes. Anyway, Good luck with your new ride. Hopefully you got a good price out of your 08 RSV. I know you'll like the electra glide Ultra classic, another of my friends that went out west had one and would never part with it.... although he did say the next year they reouted one of the exhausts or something to keep the rear cylinder from getting to hot??? Remember to Wave to other bikers...
  21. Click on forums then second gen then in right hand corner do a search this forum for "risers" Better to know how to do it/where to go. To make a long story short: 1. some risers will hit front of ignition switch housing when you turn the handlebars. 2.On some bikes the wiring isn't long enough to turn the Handelbars, Meaning you've got to find slack somewhere in the wiring...) 3. I haven't done this but perhaps, if the risers were tall enough it wouldn't hit the ingnition switch. You're still going to have to find slack in the wiring. Best advice read articules and see what risers others have bought.
  22. Glad to see ya back wanderer.... Good luck with the betting thing... It never worked for me so I stay away from it... Plus I'm still not sure these games aren't fixed... Way to many millions involved if you ask me... Besides... That way I have more :mo money:to spend on my Venture.
  23. Just got done lowering my 2007 RSMV. Heres some measurements you may be interested in: --------------------------------------------------------------------------at split -----------------------------------bottom of-------back-------front-------center -----------------------------------receicver-------frame-------frame------cowling With leveling links------------------------(12")------(9")--------(8 3/4")-----(7 3/4") With leveling links and lowered front end--(12")-------(8 1/2")----(8 1/4")----(7 1/4") Lowered front end no leveling links-------(11 1/4")----(8 1/4")----(8 1/8")----(7") with bike in upright position without weight : Bottom of receiver - measured in rear of bike Back frame - measured at rear most portion of straight frame Front frame - measured at foward most portion of straight frame Split center cowling - measured at lowest point of cowling at split Also from top of the bottom triple clamp it is exactly 8 1/2" to top of fork stock when bike is lowered 1 inch it should be 9 1/2" to top of fork when modified. Took lower cable keepers off handlebars. Reinstalled handelbars to risers and left and right levers at (punch marks) provided in handlebars. When forks were loose from top and bottom triple clamps, rotated the left fork valve to the 8:30 position and the right fork valve to the 3:30 position. This allows unrestricted access to air valves without having to purchase risers for the handlebars. More to come as I remember it... Time for a BUD LIGHT!
  24. Let's hope it's an early spring...
  25. Thanks wes0778! When I was looking at it this afternoon I thougt that I might have to remove the top triple clamp just to get those chrome fork covers off of the lower triple clamps.
