  1. Great place to visit. I try to go every two or three years. Last year they had a fly-in of 15 B25's what a sight that was.
  2. I have not done the stator or light but everything else......nothing like throwing money at something......
  3. Got my 88 last year and put 4000 miles on it. I can't remember when I have had this much fun with my clothes on.
  4. Did you ever start a small project and end up deeper than you had any intention? I knew my front tire was a little worn and had a lot of cracks in it too, so thought I would replace the Elite 2 with a new one, now how hard can that be? I took the wheel off and had a friend change the tire. He left it out in the rain after changing it and got a lot of water in the bearings. Well guess with 40k on the bike it might be a good idea to replace the bearings. Talked to Buckeye to order the parts and mentioned that I was going to check the starter since I had a small leak in the radiator hose also and it would be a good time to look at the starter. The bike starts slow after it is hot. He suggested that the real fix was a 4 brush starter. Ok one more thing what the heck. While disconnecting the battery to remove the starter found a broken fuse clip so guess I will change over to new type fuses. ALL I REALY WANTED TO DO WAS CHANGE MY TIRE!!!!
  5. Do you think she will sell the stuff for what you said you paid for it?
  6. Last year I did the springs. seals and bushing to my bike also. I also used Mobll 1 and everything worked out fine. Maybe we can meet for breakfast sometime since I live in Sardinia and am not that far away.
  7. I have a 88 Venture that I got last year and do love it. I also have a 69 BSA Rocket3, 75 Trident, 79 Boni, 60 BSA Rocket, 58 Ariel Huntmaster, 70 Triumph TR6r, 54 BSA, 64 Boni, and a few others. My wife thinks I am an addict but what does she know except that there are a lot of spots on the floor of my garages.
  8. Triumph Tiger
  9. Made my reservation at Red Roof for Saturday night (they gave me the $58.49 rate) and will be coming down early Saturday morning. I will be coming down 68 out of Maysville and looks like it should be about 2 or 3 hours. For me this will be the longest ride I have ever done. I just got the bike running and have made some small runs around here with no problems yet. Hope to meet all of you. Ed
  10. I just replaced the fork seals, bushings and added progressive springs to my 88 Venture. I used the instructions from the Forum (Freebird) and got the parts from Buckeye Performance (Great person to deal with and excelent parts) everything went fine except when it came to seating the top bushing. If you have the same problem try this. Take a 3 inch piece to (1 1/2) PVC and cut one end so that it is at a 90 to the side. Then half the piece so that you can put it arround the fork tube with just the bushing below it. Then just use it like a slide hammer. This worked very well for me but remember not to try this on the seal! I wish I could say that there was a big improvement with the progressive springs but I can not realy tell because I never rode a venture before doing this upgrade. The one very big improvement is that the bike does not look like it will fall over when the side stand is down now and I can easily put it on the center stand now. Before I put the springs in I could lock the front brake and bottom out the springs I can not do that now. Harbor Freight has a set of sockets that has all the allens that you need for doing the seals and it does have the 17mm in the kit the cost is about $15
  11. Thanks very much for all the help I got in getting my 88 Venture running. I had bought this bike as a non-runner. A friend put me on to it since he knew I was looking for a 88 Wing and he had a friend that had medical problems and needed to get rid of his Venture (I had never heard of a Venture). Clutch did not work so rebuilt master and slave (I would never of believed that the slave would come out of that little hole if it had not been for the posts) brakes needed bleeding. There was a mouse house in the radio compartment. Needed a new battery. Very very bad gas in the tank. Choke would not move because of dried gas. Carbs were gunked up so I replaced every rubber part in carbs (did not know Yamaha rubber could be so expensive) I did get the diaphrams from ebay. I also replaced the carb screws with stainless socket screws. I did do the resistor thing to get the bat light to go off. Repaired the securing pins for the side covers. Replaced fuel filter and changed oil, filter and rear end grease. Changed the o-ring in the draining/running valve. Replaced spark plug wires caps and spark plugs. Got progressive springs for front. Polish clean polish clean polish clean. Got the carbs back on hit the started and started right up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sync the carbs, got new tags and insurance, got it off the work table and took the first ride. What a change from rideing smaller bikes. I was surprised how good it sounds, I thought it would sound more like a Wing but sounds more like my Trident. I took it up on the 4lane and pushed it a little when I checked my speed I was doing 75 and I was not realy pushing it. Looks like I have a bike I can take a trip on with less than 40000 miles and a total investment of about $2800. This would not of been possible without all of your help. Thanks, Ed
  12. Congradulations!!!!!! Hope and bet you will enjoy it. My wife, brother and most of my friends are retired and not one of them regret it....... I am a few years away from it and am counting the days..... Ed
  13. Is there any place I can download a 88 owners manual? Ed
  14. I did see that Harbor Freight had a ultrasonic cleaner for $80 and it is a 2.5 liter. I think I will buy one and give it a try. Any idea what kind of cleaner you use in one. How about Sea Foam? Guess you would want to do that outside just in case things go very wrong. One other question, if you let the carb soak in Sea Foam after it is compleatly striped and only soak metal parts how long can it stay in there? Ed
  15. Does anyone have a old carb for a first gen. I need one to take apart to see if I can do it before I take my 88 apart. The dealer wants $500 to rebuild them:Sad_0241: and that just seems like toooooo much money for me. Thanks, Ed etohio@iwon.com
  16. I know how this goes,,,,,I bought a BSA Rocket 3 and all I was going to do was get it running again,,,,,after stripping to the frame and powder coating frame and everything I have so much in it I do not want to ride it. Guess I should sell it and use the money for something else I do not think I will get that carried away again.
  17. The tool is basicaly a vacume pump and what you are doing is sucking the brake fluid from the master through the system there is a little cup that is in between the caliper and pump that catches the old fluid.
  18. I want to grease the spline
  19. I bought a 1988 Venture that had been sitting for more than 3 years. The clutch did not work at all so I thought that since it had no fluid in it maybe it just needed fluid and bleeding (who was I kidding). I tried and tried to bleed it with no luck. I bought a rebuild kit for the master and slave and also a Harbor Freight bleeder. Rebuilt the master first and tried the HF bleeder without rebuilding the slave. Bleeder worked great and had a little clutch action but looked under the bike and had a flood of brake fluid there. I took out the slave and rebuilt it (thanks for all the posts that said it did come out) did the bleeder thing and it worked great. Had clutch! The front brake worked some but not good. I did the HF bleeder on it and it worked fine then. The rear brake did not work at all. Tried the old method of bleeding and had no luck. Did the HF bleeder on the front left then on rear then on fitting at steering head and went through front rear and head again. Got a full brake. The HF bleeder worked great it was on sale for $20 and it could of been the best $20 I ever spent. One other thing that is nice using the bleeder is that I need no one else to help me. The only other thing I did was to put a turn of Teflon tape around each bleeder screw so that air woud not leak while bleeding. Hope to get everything done so I can go to Maintance Day.
  20. Do I have to remove the pumpkin and rear tire on a 1988 Venture to get the drive shaft out? I tried to find information in the maint book but no luck. It looks like you might be able to do it but do you have to slide the pumpkin back some way? I am still very new to this bike but am sure haveing a lot of fun with it. Hope I get to ride it soon! Ed
