  1. I traced the cable and the left does go to the black box under the trunk. Thanks, ed
  2. Thanks I did not know or notice. Bet the radio does better now. I have not tried the cb yet but it has to help....... Thanks again, Ed
  3. I should be back from WI so I should be there. I am looking forward meeting everybody and trying out new bike.
  4. Just got a new (new to me) 1999 Venture. I have been looking at these for a while along with some others (Goldwing, Concourse, ST1300, BMW). I bought this without riding so my ride home was a learning experience though I really thought it would be very similar to my 88 Venture in my opinion it is not. If I had ridden it first I do not think I would of made the move but the more I ride it the more I liked it. The heal toe shifting is still a little hard for me and the sound is so much different from my 88 Venture. I am now really enjoying this bike the only thing that I think it needs is stainless brake lines and I just got the new centerstandfrom Rivco. Hope to make it to the Maintenance Day at end of month for my first long ride on this RSV.
  5. Just made the jump from my Gen 1 to Gen 2. I thought I would not miss the center stand boy was I WRONG! I was looking all over and could not find one of the RIVCO stands but noticed Long Tall suggested calling RIVCO and getting on the list. I was pleasantly surprised that they had some in stock. She told me that they had about 15 in stock and would NOT make another run of these. The price with shipping was about 420 which is a lot of money but they are so handy. etohio
  6. Looks like this should work. http://www.wiringproducts.com/8-circuit-ato-atc-fuse-block-side-entry.html#prettyPhoto
  7. Don't know if this is what you are looking for but I posted this some time ago. Since then it has work perfectly and I am still very pleased with it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74688
  8. Just a quick note. I was in a Meijer's store yesterday and they were closeing out Autolite Plugs. I was amazed that they had some for my 88 Venture XS4163 they were normally $5.99 and were on sale for $1.49 and thought that was not too bad a price. So if you are out and about you might take a look if you are near a store and happen to use these plugs.
  9. I have to admit that the Venture is getting a little heavy for me so I have been looking around a little. The Yamaha FJR1300es sure looks good to me.
  10. I had forgotten just how good he is. I went on youtube and recorded some of the video's that are on there. I have to record them because my internet connection is not fast enough to play without stopping.
  11. carbs were sync and pilot adjusted as best I could. The bike runs great and I have no problems except for the choke. When I bought it the choke mechanism would not move because all 4 plungers were frozen in there cylinders. I rebuilt the carbs per a very good set of instruction found on the net ( http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=001010&id=366 ) after cleaning and replacing O rings it started up and I sync with carb tune. As it is now if it is over 40 or 50 degrees it starts right up and runs great just don't touch that choke handle!
  12. The part I was referring to for $65 was the starter set. Does the small diaphragm set that was referred to have affect on the choke circuit? Evidently I do not understand the choke circuit on these carburetors so any help would be gratefully accepted.
  13. I was thinking of loosening two or 3 of the choke actuating levers and seeing if I could narrow the problem down. It's just an idea. The other thing is that 2 of spark plugs are on the rich side. So I was thinking there might be a leak in the choke circuit.
  14. I have what I think is a strange problem with my 88 Venture. I bought it non running and rebuilt the carbs. I replace every rubber part with new Yamaha rubber including the diaphragms. It ran and runs great and I get between 34 on the low to 43 on the high for mileage. The problem is that when it is below 40 degrees it will not start or it does start and you can not give it any gas or it will die you just let it lope for a minute and warm sum and it is ok. It will never and I mean never start at any time with the choke on. When I rebuilt the carbs I had to force the choke plungers out of their cylinders all 4 of them. I did not do anything to the chokes other than clean them and did not replace any of their rubber. I did make sure that they seated all the way down with choke off. Did I miss something? The only rubber I remember is on the bottom of the plunger I think. I checked the price of new plungers and they are $65 each. Thanks,
  15. When I first got my Venture I worked on it like I did my Triumph which was a lot of sitting on the floor. It was really getting to me after a while and I had friends that kept telling me how nice it was to have a table so I spent the money. I could not be more happy with it. I use it all the time and even use it with my mowers. Ed
  16. Just got a 1996 R1100r BMW and have put almost 200 miles on it. I like it but the Venture is in no danger of losing it's spot in the garage or it's spot in my heart. The BMW feels like a very very high performance 70's triumph. This thing stops better than anything I have ever been on, it does have ABS so guess that helps. When I get on it a little bit I can see me getting over my head very quickly (already had it over a 100). It does have a windshield but I do not think it helps that much and since I wear a open face helmet the air in the face is iratating which means I will have to go back to a full coverage helmet when I ride this. For me I think this is a 100 mile or less motorcycle while the Venture is a 400 mile or more bike. There is one thing that is driveing me crazy about this bike and that is when I cancel the turn signals I accelerate the bike. This is a little problem that I know I can work out at some point. This thing is like having a little hot rod to play with and with the potential of biteing you in the ass very quickly. I will give it a year and see how it goes. But one thing it has showed me is how great my Venture is.
  17. The Bandit I was looking at was sold so was still looking for another bike until this morning. I was at breakfast with the other old guys and was saying I was looking for something in between my Triumph and Venture. Tucker said he had a BMW for sale, a 1996 R1100r that had less than 26000 on it for $3000. It has ABS, oil coolers, a flashing headlight that I have no idea what that is about, BMW bags, new rear tire, new battery and came with a battery Tender. It looked very nice so why not. Do not know much about BMW's but have never had anybody complain too much about them except that parts are very very expensive. I sure hope this fits the bill. Ed
  18. I retired in March and have been doing all the projects that did not get done while I was working. I had every intention of restoreing my stash of British Iron but am just having too much fun playing with my Venture. I am down to 1 Triumph and the Venture. I think I need one more bike and have been looking at a 1200 Bandit as a knock around bike. Any thoughts on this as a bike to putt around the neighborhood on?
  19. My bike did the same thing. When cold it would crank like you would think it should but when hot you worried that it was not going to start. What really bothered me was when you were on a group ride. I had a coolant leak in the hose that goes to the diverter valve so while I was in there I replaced the starter. It was worth every penny......
  20. Congrats !!!!!!!! I got out of the Air Force in 69 and my mother made me go to the unemployment office and try to find a job. First interview and they hired me and 43 years later am still working on that darn job application. I was suppose to retire the 21st of December but no one to replace me so I said I will work to the 1st of Feb but that is it. I want to finish a Rocket 3 that I have and a 54 BSA and 70 Tiger that need finishing. If I can get them done I also have a 56 Ariel that I think would be fun to ride to bike night. I made the mistake of telling my wife I did not know what I was going to do with all my time when I retire. She said that she knew what I could do, half of the house work. Maybe working is not so bad.
  21. These are the pictures of my new fuse block. The block came off of the ebay site for about $10 or $12. The fuses are in the exact order as they were originally in except the accessory fuse was moved from the top to the bottom by extending that wire, by doing this I got more slack in the cables to put on the new crimp connectors. In moving the accessory fuse to the bottom I was also able to jump to the next fuse possession which gives me the benefit of adding another fuse for another accessory but you will have to remember not to go over the 10 amp total for both accessory fuses. I removed the old glass fuse block and used the bottom screw to mount the new fuse block and drilled another hole in the battery mounting bracket and used a brass screw and nuts to mount the top of the new fuse block. This brass screw became my accessory ground and strain relied for the bikes cable assembly. The new fuse block came with a cover but it was too tall to allow for the bikes top cover to mount so I had to leave it off. I did use dialectic grease on all the connections. I did this last year and have been very happy with it. I got a lot of the ideas from other posts on Venture Rider.
  22. You are lucky guys.....I never bought a motorcycle that ran so never needed the test ride.

I too have a slow internet connection. So what I did is use a browser called Modzilla and save the file and use VLC Media Player to play the vid.
  24. I use to live in Traverse City and always wanted to do the UP. I never did get the chance. Rider Magazine did a very nice write up of a loop of the UP. I kept the issue but I sure can not fine it. There is another write up of the UP at this link http://www.ridermagazine.com/2008/favorite-rides/michigan-motorcycle-rides-the-upper-peninsula/ Hope you have a great time.... Ed
  25. If you are close to Cincinnati, Clermont Airport also has a nice warbird museum
