  1. It looks like I will be doing more work on my cooling system in the near future and I want an opinion of a "while I am in there...." upgrade to the 4 brush Vmax starter. I am not sure what is considered "slow cranking" for these bikes, but I can say when I bought it the starter was awful. I have since put in a brand new Deka battery and it is 13.665 times better. I took a video of my starter this morning (It does not start because I had no choke on but getting it to start is absolutely no problem even with old battery) just to show you an accurate representation of the starter speed. The bike was cold and only about 30 degrees out. I don't know how it is warm starting because I have never had an opportunity to ride the bike but 1 mile yesterday before it started to puke coolant and I shut it off. So without further rambling..... I know I am the next Francis Coppola
  2. I've seen a few posts lately with questions about what is available for battery cable upgrades. We have had some members here in the past that were able to build these sets for us but it looks like they are no longer involved with that project. If I'm wrong give me a shout. I don't want to step in on anyones sales. But it got me to make contact with a provider I have dealt with and looking into having him make 4 ga cable sets fitted to the 1st gen Venture. I'm waiting to hear back from him and making arrangments to send him a set of cables as a template if he wants to do this. At this point I can not give any idea of the cost until he agrees and receives the set being sent to him. So if you're not in a huge rush to get the cables give me a few days and I'll post here with any new information as it comes along. Hopefully this might turn into a steady, reliable and affordable source if it works out. I'll try to keep this updated as things happen or don't. It's only in the idea stage at this point. If you have any interest in a upgrade set post here and I can keep track of how many might be needed. Mike Interested Members: Bill W. 3. There was someone making up heavier battery cables (lonestarmedic) but he's "expired". is there a " how to" anywhere on how to make the new cable set? Is there anyone else making and selling them? If you see this...how much including shipping to Canada?
  4. I am finally ready to assemble battery cables for 1st Gens. Getting my shop useable has been a pain in the rear. I plan on making enough for all who need them plus 3-4 extra sets. The price of copper has skyrocketed. I now pay 0.25 per foot more than last year. By purchasing the supplies carefully, I can keep the prices the same as last year. So, please reply to this thread and let me know how many sets to make. The cable is available locally so it won't take long to finish a batch. Cable from battery to solenoid is 8". Cable from solenoid to starter is 34". Cable from battery to ground is 34". The aux. leads are 8" and made from 10 gauge. I made all of the cables 2" longer than stock to allow for the increased bend radius. I have also added a ground and a positive 12 gauge accessory lead for any extra items. All 4 gauge terminals are soldered using 50/50 rosin core. The crimped ends also have solder. All terminals have adhesive wall shrink tubing applied to seal the wires. I am finishing them off by sealing any open ends with Liquid Electrical Tape. The positive aux. lead has a ring terminal to attach to the screw inside the stock fuse holder. Just remove the 3/8" blade terminal and use the screw for the ring terminal. The aux. ground lead attaches with a posilock. Price is $40.00 shipped via Priority flat rate to the US and $46.00 to Canada. If you want a posilock fuse holder for the 12 gauge lead, add $4.00. NO MONEY YET!! NEED A HEAD COUNT!! J.B.
