  1. definately going to want to see pics... video even...
  2. i would think that with the curves of the passenger grab bars it would be hard to slip the grips on, so maybe wrapping your own is the ticket. i found alot of info on DIY grip heaters, a good one was at ebbo.org, they sound easy enough and pretty cheap to make.
  3. yes , equus 3220 guages, got them in the cheap bin at carquest, there were exactly four of them. the valves are from ace in the garden section, theyre for watering systems and so arent as precise as id like but will work for now. thought id try and find something made for air/gas that might be better. still got to test the sccuaracy as mentioned above.
  4. didnt think about that...makes sense, i will reverse the tubes and check it.
  5. just built my own the other day...@ 28 bucks and it made a world of difference. $4.00 for each guage 2 for clear tube and the rest on the valves. i read somewhere about dampers and different carbs and thought with the valves i could adjust to any bike i hooked it up to, im not sure i like the valves, might have to go to something fixed, but it works. gonna take the bike to a MC mech/buddy and will find out how accurate it is, my bet is it will be just fine.
  6. bought an 86 back before thanksgiving as a project/parts bike. paid $400 for it. had been sitting in a carport for 10+ years. after stripping it down pretty well and lubing everything i could find, replacing all fluids and checking out as much as i could on the way, she's finally back together (mostly). maiden voyage was yesterday, a short spin down the highway, and its runnin GREAT! I replaced a few parts but for the most part every thing was in good shape so ive got less than $600 bucks into it...YEEHAW!!! even better is that i now have something to compare my 87 to. its been having problems that i cant track down, but now i know that it definately isnt right. I will be trading parts back and forth till it runs like this new 86. what a pleasure to ride a good working machine! thanks for listening to me brag
  7. 58, but the last hole i just clicked the mouse as fast as possible for fun!!!
  8. set myself up with hotgrips a while back, absolutely love them! ive been out in @freezing temps with light weight gloves and no problems..PLUS my fingers used to go numb even in the summer, they havnt fallen asleep once since this add-on. that alone makes them worth every penny!!!
  9. Its Florida!!!....(sorry if you live there)
  10. lucky dog!!!, want to sell one of those kits seein as you only use one at a time? id be interested.
  11. pretty sure its on #2, forward left cyl sitting on bike...
  12. thanks for the info, if it smoothes out the pulses, and has an arrow on it i would think it would make a difference wich way the arrow points. seems minor but maybe it will make that big of a difference.
  13. on the headlight, squidley may have it, mine did the same, low beam dim high worked fine, new bulb solved the prob
  14. the bike hesitates and surges very, very mildly. took it to the mc mech and put it on the dyno. didnt see anything for a while then he noticed the timing on #2 cyl was all over the place and #4 was a bit crazy too. ive put my replacement tci in and no change, so i replaced pickup coils. took it for a test ride yesterday and no change.i had replaced the boost sensor when prob first came up the sensor/timing has always been in the back of my mind so i fiddled with it. plugged the line( no vac to sensor ) bike ran HORRIBLE, then turned the plastic piece around so arrow pointed to sensor, and it seemed better, but at that point i was in traffic, close to home, and slick roads, so i was more focused on stayin alive. got home and looked at my 86 and found the arrow pointing toward sensor on it. Im gonna test ride again when time permits but maybe all i did was put that dumb part in backwards, it seems so hard to believe that it would make that much difference but... thanks for any help!!!
  15. how much lube will last for just outside the warranty??? keep hearing how stingy yam is with the lube, makes you wonder. G.D'it dont be so stingy with things that cause so many problems for the folks that buy your product. they are beautiful machines. do them justice from the onset....
  16. its a long story so the question is... on the vac line to the vacuume sensor as it should be called, there is a small plastic piece that couples two pieces of vac line tiogether. there is an arrow on that piece that points towards the carb, or toward the sensor??? I have been fighting an extremely annoying problem for some time now that i think may be related to this part and its orientation in line. Im gonna cry if its just a matter of the stupid thing being in the wrong way... its almost always a very easy fix, made alot more difficult by our own over thinking....
  17. if its skydocs fuse set up youre lookin at, the terminal blocks are mounted to the top of the air box, the fuse box is in the original position over battery. if you dont plan on adding electrical gizmos then the terminal blocks are not needed. i put them on mine but never hooked them up since i dont run any extras.
  18. how long have you had the bike? first time youve taken the wheel off...if the nut was loose maybe the last guy or mechanic to do so put something on wrong and just left it loose instead of trying to find out where he messed up in the process.do you have a manual with a blow up of the parts or someone with a similar bike to compare?
  19. i meant no offense!!! gummed up fuel can cause probs all over the place, if you trusted the seller that this was the way it has always been then it might just be the way she is... for now,... doesnt mean something wasnt screwed up from the assembly aka birth of the machine. i think you are smart to look into it, its along time for anything (but my 74 ford f150 ) to warm up. does sound carb related!
  20. 111 foot pounds is huge!, but not so much that your wheel should stop when applied. any thing with wheels is lookin at around the same specs and a wheel should roll easy when off the ground. something is wrong...brake drag maybe. is there noise?
  21. learned along time ago, if the seller has "warmed it up" be leary. i ask that the seller, car, motorcycle, rototiller, etc be COLD when i show so there is no surprises later. learned this the hard way ..... sorry!
  22. god i miss pay phones
  23. every tank gets a bit 'o' sea foam, and the plugs are new, the problem started in the middle of a 4000 mile trip so its seen plenty of new fuel, and a few sets of plugs.Ive replaced the wires and plug caps too. until i get it sorted out, i wont be taking any long rides (thank god its winter) but i do get out for a couple hours here and there.
  24. the MC mech dialed the carbs in when he had it on the dyno, said they werent bad and now theyre spot on. It seems so wierd because it is so erratic, its good to hear that replacement has helped others.thanks for the info!
  25. Ive tried to find info on replacing my pickup coils, maybe im not looking in the right places. it seems pretty straight forward, but thought if anyone had tips or hints it would be a help. Also reasons for replacement. The problem i am trying to fix is bizzare and my MC mech has suggested the coils. The bike ran fine till it really warmed up, then it started to lag and surge at cruising speeds, kind of like someone was lightly pressing the brake on and off. the bike will hesitate when i roll on the throttle and then jump to life. we put it on a dyno, and the timing on the #2 cylinder is all over the place and the #4 jumps around a little. I have replaced the boost sensor with a tested OK one and swapped the tci with no change in performance. The problem seems to be getting steadily worse.....any thoughts?
