1. Yup, Beartooth and Chief Joseph hyways are awesome, I found Yellowstone Park itself kinda overrated. Very slow going behind a herds of RV'S. Ron
2. I have an '06 Venture, with passing lamps, heated grips, and I also have a heated vest. I installed a Kuryakin voltage sensing LED gauge due to the same concerns regarding wattage you have expressed. I turned everything on last fall during the cool weather, the LED stayed green showing positive voltage. I ran the cruise, had the stereo on, passing lamps, everything. The gauge is a great thing to put your mind at rest knowing you're not discharging your battery as you're going down the road. Ron:thumbsup2:
3. I've done more reading since I originally posted. I was on the ST1300 site (used to have one), and they are quite popular for that bike. Everyone there seem quite positive about them. I really like the remote dampening/rebound control, I hate using those C wrenches in tight places and busting my knuckles when they slip (memories of my V-Star!). They also custom build for heavier riders and loads. The two year unlimited mile warranty sounds pretty good too. Ron
4. Thanks Squeeze, appreciate the reply, i think I'm going to give one a try in the spring. Ron:thumbsup:
5. I'm just wondering if anyone here has any experience with this company's rear shock. I was searching around on the Internet and found that this company builds a shock that fits the Royal Star Venture. I wrote there U.S. dealer, Dave Quinn motorcycles in Conn. and promptly received this reply. Happy to help. Hagon makes shocks for 98 and up 1300 Venture Star with VIN prefix XVZ13TF or 4XY. Currently out of stock, can easily get, 2-4 weeks. Cost is $394 plus UPS at cost to you which will vary depending on your zip code. 'Off-the-shelf' shocks are assembled for an average rider- there is enough adjustability in the stock shock to cover a wide range of loading. It would be useful to know your weight, and whether you carry passengers (% of time? Passenger weight?) or luggage (saddlebags? tank bag? top box? loading in each?) and what your maximum loading (passenger/luggage) is likely to be. If Hagons determine that your loading exceeds the design parameters of the shock, they can supply to special order a shock with an uprated spring. Conversely if you are very light, Hagons can for some shocks supply a lighter spring. Softer and harder springs are available as custom built units only for $464 and will take between 4 and 6 weeks to get here. Shocks are also available to special order with a remote hydraulic spring preload adjuster- $554 for a stock spec shock and $624 for an upgraded spring model. Hagon monoshocks are fully rebuildable and feature straight weight spring with adjustable spring preload (threaded manual or hydraulic remote adjuster), adjustable 15 position LINKED compression and rebound damping (one adjuster for both) and a two year unlimited mileage warranty against failure due to manufacturing defect. Bent shocks due to accident, impact, dropped bike, improper installation or owner malfunction will not be warranteed. Shocks are not returnable once they have been fitted. All adjusting tools are included with the shock. You can see representative Hagon monoshocks online at http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/HAGON_MONOSHOCKS.html Shipping and insurance will be charged at cost and will vary depending on what you order, your zip code and any fuel surcharges in effect on the day your order ships. We ship by UPS in the continental USA, by Priority Mail to AK and HI and by US Mail Express International outside of the USA. For special orders we ask for a 50% good faith deposit when Hagons accept the order, with the balance due when we ship. Please note- Special orders are not returnable unless found to be defective. If you're interested in ordering, we accept VISA & Mastercard; we need: -name as it appears on your credit card -daytime phone number -billing address for the card -ship-to address if different -card number -expiration date. Call or Fax if you are uneasy about emailing credit card details. Let me know if I can offer you any other information. 6. Try Phat Performance Parts, they ship to Canada using USPS. Their prices are good, service is awesome. Ron:thumbsup:
7. My speedometer is 8 KPH optimistic at 100 KPH (according to my GPS), and I understand that's pretty common on these bikes. You might want to bear that in mind. Ron:301:
8. I'd really appreciate that, I've thought of going to this shock, but being able to adjust the shock in seconds with the air pump is nice. My last bike was a Honda ST1300 and the damping adjustment on that was a hydraulic dial so I've been spoiled. Ron:thumbsup2:
9. So how difficult is it to adjust, do you need a special tool? Do you have to take anything apart to make adjustments to it? Thanks for any info. Ron:confused07:
10. Well, good luck keeping up with him, even on a Ducati. He's a legend on the Dragon, and many a sport bike rider have been humbled by him. My point was that love them or hate them, they are an amazing motorcycle. I am by choice currently on a '06 Venture that I love for it's comfort, look and feel, but when it comes to pure performance, no contest with a Wing. Ron
11. I don't own a Goldwing, but I did own a 2000 Valkyrie Interstate, all I can say is that the Goldwing you kept up with with Your Electra Glide may have been ridden aggressively by his standards, but if the rider knew what he was doing you wouldn't even be close. You might want to watch this video on a well ridden Wing. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nrMQ3QwyPo]YouTube - deals gap on a goldwing/gl1800 by yellow wolf dragons tail[/ame]
12. Motorcyclist magazine has the 1800 Wing running a 12.78 sec quarter mile time. Ron
13. Canadian Tire has Rotella 5/40 T6 on sale periodically for 22.00/4 litres. You can go on their website and set up an alert that will automatically send you an alert by E-mail when it's on sale. Even at the regular price of around 35.00 it's a smokin' deal compared to 15-18.00 a litre for Amsoil or Mobil one motorcycle synthetic. It's JASO rated just like them. Ron:fatsmiley:
14. I'm in Canada also, I ordered a bunch for my Venture and my truck from JC Witney, they ship to Canada via USPS, very reasonable. Ron:301:
15. I subscribe to Rider, Roadbike, and Motorcycle Mojo, going to have to check out Road Runner. Ron
16. Hi there, got mine from Cee Bailey's, lots of choices with heights and colored tints if your are interested in those. I've purchased two windshields from them, service and quality have been good. Ron:thumbsup2:
17. I don't know if I would be using that oil because of that rating. Acoording to the following exerpt from the Calsi page's article "all about oil" it needs to be JASO MA. "Another institute that certifies oils is called the Japanese Automotive Standards Organization, JASO. One wonders why this Japanese organization has an English name. . . In any case, they have two classifications for motorcycles, "MA" and "MB." MA is the one you want. MB is like the API SL category, it's got all those nasty friction reducing chemicals that may scare your clutch into misbehaving. Again, there is an official JASO seal if the oil has been independently tested. The seal is a rectangle; in the upper quarter of the rectangle will be a serial number, and the lower three quarters will just have the letters MA. If the oil manufacturer did their own testing, instead you'll see just words like "Meets or exceeds JASO MA standards." Some manufacturers recommend JASO-MA certified oil. AMSOil and Golden Spectro are JASO-MA certified. Some people consider this important. Interestingly, although Honda recommends a JASO-MA oil, Honda oil is not JASO-MA certified. Mostly JASO-MA is pretty much equivalent to SH. In fact, the JASO spec is mostly a reaction to the decrease in zinc-phosphates in SJ and SL oils, and the added molybdenum disulfide in energy conserving oils. Personally, I don't care about JASO standards - they're really not on my radar." I'd be doing some checking before using that, most 10w30 weight oils I have seen are eenergy conserving/saving and contain friction modifiers. Regards, Ron .
18. Heated grips aren't stock in Canada either. I installed them on mine, wouldn't be without them. Ron
19. I owned and rode an ST for 20000 KMS prior to buying my Venture. The main reason I sold it, was it was very refined and easy to ride fast. I found myself cruising at 80-90 mph all the time, and taking curves at goofy speeds. I was either going to kill myself, or lose my license. Time to take it easy, and enjoy the ride.
20. I was wondering if anyone here has one of these trailers. I really like what I see of them and am considering one. A fellow on the STowners site has one and his review was very positive. I am looking for more opinions if possible. Here is the link to their site if anyone is interested. http://www.armoricdesign.com/fr/index.html
21. A few days ago,Sept 7/2010, I sent a note via E-mail to Progressive Suspension inquiring about them not have a rear shock replacement for the OEM shock in the Venture. I pointed out that they might be missing a significant opportunity given the long production run of this bike and high failure rate of the OEM shock. This was their response: Hi Ron, Yes, it is actually one of the bikes we are considering at this time. It probably will not be available for 6-8 months though due to testing requirements. 22. For what it's worth, I recently contacted progressive suspension via their web page, regarding a rear shock for the Venture, as they were advertising a new rear adjustable monoshock for some cruisers, and this was their reply: Hi Ron, Yes, it is actually one of the bikes we are considering at this time. It probably will not be available for 6-8 months though due to testing requirements.
