It seems that many of my friends have changed over to a Harley in the past year or 2. Two of them even traded their 1800 Goldwings for Ultras. They all say how much they like them. I have to admit that the Harley looks great and sounds fantastic. So I figured WTF, I'll go test ride. There's a shop in Columbia that sells nothing but used Harleys so off I went. I rode 2 Ultra Classics, one Road King, and one Softtail Heritage....none older than a 2004. Man, I wanted so much to like the Ultra...what a great looking bike with all the amenities. I couldn't get past all the shaking at idle and slow speeds. How does someone ride these things all day long? The only one that I really enjoyed riding was the Softtail. It was a really nice ride...very smooth. Now if I could get an Ultra Classic with the balanced Softtail engine, I'd be all over it. The salesman said to just get the Heritage Softtail but I pointed out that it was a "stripped" bike. I'd be giving up my fairing, hard bags, radio, CB, and most of all my cassette player if I bought it. I came home on the RSV still not seeing what my friends see in their new Harleys. My quest for my perfect motorcycle continues. I may have to go back to a Valkyrie in order to be happy. I have owned 3 of them and they are still by far my favorite bike. Maybe it's time to put the RSV on Ebay and look for a Valk Interstate. Anyway, just wanted to tell about my experience with the Harley.

Vulcan whine too? we are not alone?

When I was looking to trade my RSTD I test rode a new Nomad. After about 4 miles I took it back and told them that I couldn't stand the loud whine. I went the next day and bought a new RSV. It whines some but nothing like the Nomad did. Funny thing about it is that I had a 2000 Nomad that was quiet....great bike. -
You were right the first time.....

Ok... dunno if y'all can stand this much beauty all at one time but here goes......

I removed the trunk from my '09 RSV and reinstalled the CB under the luggage rack. I can hear my radio and my cb through the speakers but can't hear anything through my headset. Everything is hooked up as before except for the 2 plugs that plug into the trunk. Does the trunk have to be installed in order for the headset to work when plugged into the tank plug? Or is there possibly something wrong with the wiring somewhere up front? Thanks in advance.........

I'll sell you my '09 with about 6K miles. If you want to talk seriously we can when I return to SC next weekend.

Thoughts and prayers to your Dad, you, and the rest of your family. I hope that you all recover quickly.

Need picture of...

OK.... I think I have it figured out. So hopefully I won't be needing to bother anyone with this. Thanks anyway........ -
Does anyone have, or can someone take a picture of how the wires and plugs connect under the passenger seat. I had my CB off and like a dummy I didn't take a pic before I unplugged stuff and it's been long enough that I've forgotten where a couple of plugs go. I would appreciate some help here...thanks a lot.

Make sure that you have it set to the right setting. My radio stopped working and I found out that I'd somehow changed the setting from SP to something else.

I had a heart attack in 1982 right before they started doing angioplasty. I got over that pretty well and 10 years later started having pains. So in 1992 they did 3 bypasses. Just last June, 15 years later, they put in a stent but I still have some mild discomfort now and then. I'm due for another nuclear stress test....sigh. Man, I hate those things.

I call mine "bike". Sometime I call it obscenities when it p's me off.

Good luck and a quick recovery. I have to have the same thing done to the middle finger joint at the hand on both hands. I have been putting it off for a couple of years, suffering the pain and eating Celebrex and Lortab to ease it. I hope that you are back riding quickly.

They obviously used that type for the RSV. No, the plug is for the CB...it's inside the CB box. The AM/FM is the other antenna which is hooked up and working.
-
Ok... I'm a dummass. Please forget that I even asked. I feel like an idiot for not looking closer in the first place. My head was set on one thing and I didn't even look at the end of the black wire. Sorry about that....... sheesh, what a dummy.

I noticed that inside the black plastic box that protects the CB that there is a gray 1/4" (I think) plug that's not being used. Is this where a microphone could be plugged in instead of having to use the headset mic? I want to use a handheld mic for times when I don't wear my full face with mic and speakers. Thanks......

And then, what would you do with it for 20 years until the next good snow?

Here's mine before I added the rack. I just looked on Ebay and bought my rack for about 100 bucks or so.

Don't knock 'em until you've tried 'em. If you've never used them then you're just repeating something you've read. They worked for me.

I had Dynabeads on 2 of my Valkyries...one with a car tire and the other with a motorcycle tire. They both rode smooth and true.....no bounce or shimmy at all. And these bikes got ridden hard and fast. I'll use Dynabeads again...they worked for me.
