  1. Today - $3.55 at Racetrack station in Cherokee County GA (I-75 & SR 92). Everywhere else closer to the house is over $3.60, so this will be higher come tomorrow.
  2. We just paid off our last remaining credit card debt, and now the wife's part-time income can go directly into the savings for our trips this year - - Thunder Beach in early May, Rolling Thunder in late May, Chattanooga for 4th of July, Boston in August, and our long anticipated 5 day cruise in late November. All but the Boston trip (family wedding) will be on 2 wheels. We also figured that in 2011, we spent an average of $250 a month eating out. That $hit had to stop, so we are saving a bundle on that now too. I am several years away from retirement, but the discipline needed to survive that time of my life has to start now. And believe me, much to her pain and dislike over it, it has!
  3. Let me know when you are heading out there and I'll hook you up with my sister who is the COO of Tulip Hill Winery just up from Napa in Lake County. (Tulip Hill is moving to a new location, but they still have the tasting room open.) Lake County and Mendacino County is the new hotbed of California wineries these days and you wouldn't want to miss it. She can give you some great places to visit and maybe a VIP tour to boot.
  4. I'm liking it! Looks great with the WWW's. Probably gonna go that route, either with the 880's if they come in a WW, or the E3's. Thanks for posting the pic.
  5. Those are my colors. Looks very nice with the WWW's. Thanks for all the pics guys. Once again, y'all come through!
  6. The wife's Softail looks awesome with whitewalls, but yes, they are a pain to keep really clean. There are some very good products out there to help do that, but in the end, it's just about keeping up with it on a regular basis, which we do. More pics please!!!!!!
  7. I'm getting new rubber soon (just hit 18K on the front and 13K on the rear) and am considering going whitewall on the '99 RSV. I have the green/grey paint scheme, and have always just had blackwalls, but I am curious as to how the RSV looks with both wide and/or thin whitewall's on them. If you have pics of your RSV with a whitewall tire, please post so I can get a feel for how it looks. Don't care about the brand of tire (God knows we don't need THAT discussion again!), but just how it looks vs. a blackwall. Thanks!
  8. GA has had this statute in place for several years now. The WBC posts their intentions to protest funerals on their disgusting web site, but rarely ever show up. They know better. I wasn't there, but I heard that they were a no-show, as usual.
  9. I really don't think he fully researched the true market value, so if I were to make him an offer, it would definitely be based on what I find in KBB and Edmunds, and I'm sure he'd work with me on that. And he did tell me that the timing belt and water pump have already been replaced, along with a fairly new exhaust and 3 month old Perelli tires. I already checked with my agent, and the ballpark for insurance isn't as bad as I thought it might be, either - less than $100/month. We'll noodle on it for a few months and see if any mystery money appears in the bank. Like I said - - a sweet little ride.
  10. A buddy of mine is getting ready to sell their '99 Miata ragtop - - cherry condition, 88K miles, glossy black, custom rims, leather interior. Looking to get $7,000 for it. I am sooooo tempted, but I'm afraid that I might like it as much as my RSV and be totally conflicted on nice riding days! The maintenance and insurance cost would be a lot more, but it's a really pretty little car. A definite head turner. What to do, what to do?????
  11. I replaced my plugs at 60,000 not too long ago, and they were like new. Unless you are having serious ignition, backfire or other fouling problems, I can't see having to replace the plugs any more frequently than every 40,000 to 50,000 miles.
  12. Thanks for all the good info guys. This is why this forum is the best place for a Venture rider to be when not actually out riding!
  13. I use my 1/2 helmet about 90% of the time, unless it's really bitter cold outside, and have been using this half helmet slide in ear flap rig for the last 2 years and really love it. I tried the over-the-ears thing which is about half the cost, but it's junk and will hurt your ears in no time, so I bit the bullet and got this one. Totally worth the price. The ear flaps are comfortable and actually will help keep your ears warm in the cold weather. You have to buy the 5-pin lower cord for your RSV separately. http://wingstuff.com/products/3145-slide-in-shorty-half-helmet-headset?context=gold_wing You should check out their full helmet insert headsets as well. I have one in my modular full face, but the mic get in the way of the full face part when it's down and locked in. It still works well, but it's a very tight fit. Fortunately, I don't use this helmet very often, and when I do, I'm usually not talking to anyone anyway, so I just bend the mic boom down and out of the way and listen to my music.
  14. So I guess I should run some in the crankcase shortly before my next oil change instead of adding it to the clean oil? If so, I'll remove some old oil to make a little room in there for 4 or 5 ounces of the SF. Thanks for the input.
  15. For you guys that put a little SF in the oil, how much is the right amount in the RSV?
  16. Thanks for the update Randy. I can wait for the MD on 3/31 to get a few things done, including a carb tune. Sounds like the valve job will be an all day event anyway. Where is Steve located in GA?
  17. It looks like a match for the Corbin seats, not the pillow top stock seats of the '08's and newer. I upgraded to the pillow top's on my '99 (got a great deal from a buddy at Yamaha), so I think switching to this backrest would look a little strange. But it would sure be a nice upgrade for my rear seat rider.
  18. Cowboy, I have the Carbon One adapter, but as Randy said, it may not be needed. Please post when you have a date nailed down, and I'll see about joining you guys to get a little learnin' in and maybe have one of the more experienced guys do a carb tune for me as well. I'm pretty sure my '99 needs one.
  19. By way of an alternative, I got 2 LED lights at Wal-Mart (in the bicycle section) that I mounted to the highway bar - one on each side - that serve the same purpose. Each is powered by 2 AA batteries that last 400 - 500 hours, and come with the mounting hardware. No wiring needed. They are very bright, and cost $7 apiece.
  20. Two other thoughts for you: 1. Check with the Self Storage Association regarding opportunities and referrals for storage caretaker positions. Member storage companies are always looking for responsible, retired or semi-retired couples to be on-site managers of their facilities. Free housing, incentive pay and benefits are generally included, with liberal time off. Here's the link: http://www.selfstorage.org/SSA/Home/AM/ContentManagerNet/HomePages/SSA_1504_20080508T110359HomePage.aspx?Section=Home 2. If travel is more your inclination, start making contact with some of the larger RV manufacturers about becoming class A motorhome delivery drivers. Some training is required, but as far as I know, a CDL is not. Their contract drivers will drive or fly to the pick up point, drive the motorhome to the drop point, then drive or fly back to the factory or to the next pick up point. I already made some inquiries with Winnebago and Holiday Rambler about this, and while they are currently not hiring, they are looking for folks to put on their list of potential drivers. I will be retiring in a few years myself, and this would be my first choice of options. I have no idea about pay or benefits, but it sure would fit the bill as far as my preference to travel vs. an office job or being a Wal-Mart greeter! All the best in your search.
  21. We just replaced our gas water heater with a new 40 gal. Rheem in November. The old one was a 17 year old 60 gal Rheem, but since we are empty nesters, 40 gallons is more than enough. We also replaced all the fittings to brass, and inserted a magnesium rod to replace the stock anode, to provide better cathodic protection to the heater's inners, with no odor. We thought about going to an electric heater, but it was an insurance covered situation, and they would only do an apples-to-apples replacement. Good luck with yours.
  22. Dumped Progressive when Allstate (which I've happily used for my cars and home for over 30 years now) revamped their MC coverage and rates in early 2011. Dropped my premiums by 50% from what Progressive had them up to, including collision, comprehensive and uninsured motorist coverage. I have the best agent on the planet, and their claims service has been awesome (when I've actually had to use it, mainly on my homeowners coverage).
  23. Randy, I gave him some info to look at regarding the RSTD, so I'm sure he'll be keeping his eye open for one over the next few weeks. Change of subject - - we need to get together sometime soon for the tutorial you offered on doing my carb sync. The warmer temps we're having have been great, but the frequent rain is a bummer. How are your next few weekends looking in the event we can get this going? Thanks! BB
  24. Thanks Playboy......
  25. Please send me a PM with your brother's contact info, and I'll pass it on. Thanks!
