Rentalguy's Build Thread
KarlS replied to rentalguy1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The fuse box upgrade is another thing you might want to think about. Good luck and looking forward to watching your progress. -
Went downtown and watched the Police practice for their competition tomorrow at Bikes on the Bricks. Only got one fall (to slow with the camera phone) but every time one fell the others would turn on their sirens so everyone would know. Some of these guys can ride. And that's Straycatt (Glen) taking a picture of me taking a picture of him.

Weather up date for Bikes on the Bricks. 78 and very windy today. Wind supposed to die down around 4:00am Saturday morning and become sunny and 65 degrees for the day. Hope to see some of you at breakfast at 10:00am. If you don't make breakfast and show up, look us up downtown.

Weatherman says thunder storms rolling in so had to go cover up the bike. (have to work on it outdoors) I'll check the air filter tomorrow and I'll pull the small K&N crankcase filter off the "twinkie" in case it might be plugged and building up pressure. Changing oil and filter has to wait until first of the month. Thanks for the advice.

Noticed yesterday I had some oil on the motor and today started to look for the problem. Looks like it's coming from the long upper crankcase breather cover between the cylinders. The crankcase vent mod has been done but does NOT seem to be coming from filter or connecting hose. In the service manual I cannot tell if there is a gasket or not. I see they are supposed to be tightened to only 7.2 ft lbs. Anyone know if there is a gasket before I mess with it. ALSO. For some reason my oil sight glass is BLACK, can't see through it at all. Just last week it was clear. Oil has not got many miles on it. Is there any way to check oil level on these things without using the sight glass? I looked in some older posts and some said to put Seafoam in crankcase to clean glass. How much do you add and how long do you run motor? I ASSUME it has to be drained fairly soon so it doesn't thin the oil to much. Of course the bike has been running and doing great BUT since I have somewhere to ride this Saturday it just has to act up.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you heal quickly, I know about bad backs. Ouch.

If you make it give me a call on my cell and I'll let you know where we are at. Also Straycatt will have his bike and trailer in the bike show.

Looks like good weather on it's way for the 25th. Minnesota finally decided not to send rain for a weekend. Friday evening there is a 30 mile Police escorted ride thru Genesee County. Hope you all can make it. See you Saturday.

1 week ago I got rid of ATT and Dish network and went to comcast (finally high speed). I wanted a new home phone number and had it listed with only my initials and not to give out my new number when the old one was called. The next day the tele-markerters started calling. Phone was ringing off the hook. I went on line to the National No Call list and signed up. Still getting calls. I know that tele-marketers are just tring to make a living so I try to be nice. Usally just say not interested and please add me to your no call list. Got to admit the last call a few minutes ago caught me at a bad time. Phone rang and when I answered the guy asked for Mrs. Sabin, I answered. "No more Mrs. Sabin, I shot her and burried her in the basement". Long pause and the guy laughs and says " I was calling about cemertary plots but I see you have it already taken care of". We had a good laugh and I asked him to put me on his no call list and we hung up. True story, just happened about 20 minutes ago while I was reading posts on VentureRider.org. But how long does the no-call thing take?

I ride in the Bikers for Burns ride every year and I get there 1 hour before registration. Just so I can be at the front of the ride and not hear those pipes for 40 miles. And every underpass they pull in the clutch and rev. Lot a show but no go. BUT by far the loudest bike I've ever heard is a Honda Valkyrie that runs around here at times. 6 Short straight pipes, you can hear him coming a mile away and hear him leaving for 5.

Have you upgraded the fuse block yet. Mine would do strange things like that and discovered the bottom of the fuse block was rusted away, Jumped the fuses with in line fuse holders and fuses from NAPA until the fuse block upgrade was done. Just a thought. -
Was driving down the road in the car when the DJ on the radio started talking about a plane hitting the first tower. I was only about a 1/2 mile from a friends house so I went there. Went in and said is this really happening as the 2nd plane hit. Really hit 2 days later when we were standing in his back yard and I say "do you hear that" he said he heard nothing. I replied Thats right no planes, jets nothing ( we live under main routes for airliners) seamed so strange with no air traffic at all anywhere. God Bless to all those that died that day.

Had been working on my bike the night before so the next morning I jump on it to leave and NOTHING. Worked on the fool thing for 2 hours tracing back what I worked on the night before. AFTER 2 hours I looked up and noticed the green neutral light wasn't on. Yep, all that was wrong is that it was in gear..

Did I meet your Brother in Flint Mi. today? Went into a local dive today to get some tacos to take home (best REAL Tacos in the area) and a guy came in while I was ordering. I was wearing my VentureRiders.org tee shirt. When we both got done ordering he came up to me and said he was just down in San Antonio visiting his brother and his Brother belongs to the VentureRiders.org and has a tee shirt just like mine. We talked for awhile about bikes and how Flint has went to h**l and how we both want to move south. When our orders came up and I was leaving I noticed he was wearing a tee shirt from a Harley dealer in San Antonio. He rides a 1200 Sportster. So was just wondering who his brother might be. And BEFORE you say it Squidy, I know he's not your Brother.

My . I don't have that problem because. When I get a new to me bike I get a new windscreen and then NEVER use anything on it except for water and lint free scratch free towels. Seems to me when ever people start spraying and using chemicals on the windscreen the glare problem starts. Just what works for me.

Dang Broke again
KarlS replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Mine broke on my 83 in the same place 2 days ago. I've used this stuff from Auto Zone before on the bike called Black Plastic. It's a 2 tube into 1 injection type. It has held up great on other plastic parts on the bike so I figured I'll try that.
