I was amazed at how bright these lights are. I have not seen the blue but it actually hurts my eyes to look directly at the green and red.

Butt Butler Seat Available - Straight Up Swap - WI
YamaDuck replied to RedRider's topic in Watering Hole
Actually the RSV seat in not a 1 peace seat. It is two pieces unless you have an aftermarket Corbin seat which is one peace. The RSV and the RSTD seats have totally different mounting systems. I have heard of people converting a RSV seat to work on a RSTD by I have never heard of a RSTD seat being modified to work on a RSV. Someone may have done it but I have never heard of it. -
My shock that I replaced on my 2000MM did not have the vent tube. The replacement shock that I replaced the old shock with has the vent tube. I just ran the vent tube up beside the battery and zip tied it so it would stay in place. I saw a newer model RSV and the vent tube was routed to the same place but there was a piece from the factory that held it in place. A zip tie worked fine for me.

If the passing lights are wired factory then you have the little switch beside the power outlet to turn the passing lights on and off. I highly recommend not to push that button while moving. The wiring can be changed so that the passing lights work all the time (MY preference), on when the high beam is on or on when the low beams are on and off when the high beams are on. Welcome to the larger more comfortable 2nd Gen. Now people will know what you are riding when you pass them. I always had trouble recognizing a 1st gen from a old Honda Goldwing. They looked the same and they sounded the same. The 2nd Gen sounds nothing like a HD and a much smoooother ride.

Same here. Coleman makes several size tents for 2 to 4 people. Of course the more people it holds the bigger it packs. Most of the 2 person Coleman are under $100. I found mine for $50. Just make sure the tent is self supporting just in case you get stuck someplace where the ground is very hard. Or carry a hammer with you.

Saddlebag rail adjustment.
YamaDuck replied to YamaDuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I looked at that article and it was very professional done. However I didn't think Yamaha would intentionally make the saddlebag guards angle that way as to hit the turn signals and I didn't want to drill any holes into my fender mount. If you do my method you get very much the same result but with no drilling. Just a little twist and the same result. I don't have a very good picture but I did find this one. -

Whoo Hooo more lights. Excellent! -
The only reason I carry collision is because it is 57 dollars more. However With a 9 year old bike if you did turn in a claim they would probably total the bike so either way you loose.

Saddlebag rail adjustment.
YamaDuck replied to YamaDuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I guess you could do that I'm just not sure how the piece that the saddlebag guard is attached to (on the fender) will hold up. As long as that piece doesn't bend or warp I assume that would be alright. You are just trying to adjust the angle where the rear of the saddlebag guard attaches to the fender. So take it easy and it will work I'm sure. -

Sorry since they are already installed I don't have any pictures but when you get yours in email me and we'll talk about it or I will come over and help you. Harry -
Congratulations! I was forced to retire Oct. 2008. I hit an arbitrary age limit that says you can no longer safely do the job. So out I went. So it was not a matter of if I should or should not retire. I stayed retired until March 2009. I loved it. Now I've been cut from 5 days a week working to 3 days a week working. I love it even more. I've been told they will probably lay us off between Feb and May of 2011. Great. You see I don't want to work. i like being retired but I don't like my wife saying I should be working. Now she says "you love only working 3 days a week don't you"? I just smile to my self and say but honey It's not my choice. I'm looking forward to being laid off and telling my wife but honey it's not my fault we got laid off. Congratulations again, well done!

Like was said before Pinwall Cycle ebay store http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-Royal-Star-XVZ1300-NICE-DRIVER-SEAT_W0QQitemZ130337514784QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item1e58b8a520 has one but it is hard to tell one bolt may be broken off. Now to tell you what happened if you don't already know. The seats are held in place with two screws up under the seat. You have to continually check these two nuts as they vibrate loose and fall off. They are hard to get to and if you have big hands it is even more difficult to get to. I used a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet to put the nuts on. Now for the other thing that may have happened. The bolts snap off very easily if you over tighten the nuts so the bolt may not have even been on the seat. Some people ride without the nuts in place because of the difficulty keeping the nuts in place. This is fine as long as the bike is being ridden but as soon as to try to trailer the bike anywhere you see what happens. If you get the seat from Pinwall Cycle it should come with two nuts. Go the the auto parts place, Home Depot or Lowe's and purchase two metric nuts that are 10mm (I'm not sure of the thread count but as long as they fit a 10mm socket they are the right ones). Make sure the nuts have the nylon inserts so they don't get loose. OR this is what I've done on both my Ventures, contact Rick Bulter and purchase his threaded nylon nuts that stay in place and you don't need any tools to put on and take off. Rick sells them in the classified 2ND Gen section for $6. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/1663/cat/7

Sorry I already have one and have never used it. I could sew on the small patch I guess.

Normal. After an easy ride of say 70 mph for two or three hours it gets a little damp. If I ride hard 80 to 85 for two or three hours it is still just a little damp. After an oil change if you put to much oil in you may get a few drops. I just put a cardboard box flattened out on the garage floor under the hoses just in case right after and oil change.

2ND GEN. Riders, I NEED Your HELP!
YamaDuck replied to skydoc_17's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a failed shock off a 2000MM I'll give you. PM me if you need it. -
There are different Road King pipes. I have the RK slant cut pipes and they sound better IMHO. There is a member here somewhere that makes the bracket to mount them. Ebay has some chrome clamps for $36.

The law in Ga use to be you could not put any flashing blues lights on your vehicle. That's when I put the blue lights on my Road Star. Since they did not flash I was within the law. Shortly after I put the blue lights on they changed the law so you could not run any blue lights. Same thing happened to my son. The window tint law in GA expired so my son had his windows tinted. Six months later they reinstated the window tint law and he has since got two tickets at $155 each for window tinting even though it was legal when he had it installed. I guess it runs in the family.

I have read the GA law that covers colored LED's and it states that it is illegal to run blue lights in GA. It is not illegal to put them on your bike. As far as I know if the bike is on private property you can turn them on but that could be interpreted as a violation of the law also. Some say that if you turn them on that is running the lights and that is against the law. So that means a trip to court to see how the judge is feeling that day. I put blue lights on my Road Star and it was legal at the time in Ga. but shortly after I ran the blue lights they changed the law here in GA. Si I put the purple lights on. They are not as bright because they are UV lights but then someone said to me "you know you can't run blue lights in GA." so that told me a police officer may make the same mistake. So I don't run either color on my Road Star. Every state is different so you you would have to look up the law in your state. Then there may be city ordinances about it also. So how knows the final answer? Thanks for the compliment on the green, hopefully it will be alright.

I cut most of the wire away and connected the 18 gauge (wish I had 22 gauge) wire. shrink wraped them so they would not come apart. I figured for $6 for six of them if it did not turn out to good I was out hardly nothing. So far I'm happy. I have 4 12 count strips on order from http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/12V-2...item3caa4eccab also for the smaller areas.

When I changed my rear shock I took the drivers seat off, the rear passenger floorboards, the plastic panels where the floorboards mount and that's all. I left the bike on it's side kickstand and I jacked the bike up so that after the bolts were loose the weight was off the shock and the kickstand, front tire and jack kept the bike stationary. My hands are average size so I was able to get in there and change the shock out using this method. Just be careful as with this method the bike is a little tipsy. EUSA1 (Mike) told me how to do it so maybe he will chime in.

I used 6 LED light strips. Each strip has 48 LED's. Each strip cost $1 and shipping and handling for each strip was $2.59. I had an old switch so I used that to turn them on and off. I bought a mini fuse holder and put a 2 amp fuse in it which is way to high. I need to find a smaller amp fuse. The strips do not come with double sided adhesive so you will need to supply that. I use the 3M external double sided tape since it will be exposed to the eliminates. The wire leads are very very flimsy, if fact they are so small I don't have any wire strippers small enough to strip the insulation off. But with care use should be able to strip the insulation off, I did. I am really surprised the wire carries enough current to light all 48 LED's. I just decided where I wanted to mount the LED's and either mounted them with the double sided tape or tie wraps. I got some 18 gauge wire (red and black) to connect the lights together and to the fuse. I8 gauge is to heavy but that's the smallest I could find. 20 or even 22 gauge would be better. I tried to install them where you could not see them when they were off and would give good reflection of the color. I also tried to stay away from hot surfaces like exhaust pipes and the engine and radiator. I also have not put any around the fairing. (yet) I placed the switch on the frame up under the left side of the drivers seat so I could turn it on and off while riding down the road and it is hard to see. Where the lights are mounted to the gas tank and saddlebags I used quick disconnects so if I have to take those parts off I can disconnect them and remove whatever I need to remove. (You may want to put a label under your seat or in your saddlebag so if anyone else works on your bike they will see the label and disconnect the LED's before they remove anything). Now you can get these LED's in strips with 12, 24, 48, and 72 LED's in them. The 24 count are about 9 1/2" long. They are all $1 each. The difference is the shipping. The 24 count LED's are around $1.39 to $1.59 each shipping and the 48 are around $2.59 shipping and I think the 72 count are around $3.19 shipping each. They come from Hong Kong and I think they are very bright. I tried different suppliers and they all did fine and it took about 3 weeks to get them. I could by them from US companies for a much higher price but I bet they get them from China or Hong Kong also. http://stores.ebay.com/verimage_Car-Electronics_W0QQ_sacatZ3270QQ_sidZ566577653QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322 [/url] http://stores.ebay.com/Julysky-NO1_Car-Accessory_W0QQ_fsubZ1488935016QQ_sidZ957232966QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322 These links are ebay so I'm not sure how long they are good for so you may want to bring the links up and save them to your favorite sellers list so you can find them at your discretion. If you have anymore questions or I haven't answered your question please ask it again. Harry:thumbsup2:

$6 LED's and $13 S&H. The pictures are a little blurry but I think you get the picture. Anyway I'm satisfied and it didn't break the bank.

Sorry went for a ride yesterday and didn't get back to the forum. I'll post the pictures when I get the bibs back and put on the Venture. I'm starting to get anxious with the temperature getting into the sixties.
