  1. My '85 got knocked over by a hit and run scumbag years ago. I couldn't find any damage. Apparantly it landed just right on a grassy uphill. I got lucky. None the less it still um irritates me to this day. Cut them no slack at all! Remember it's a rare and valuable customized antique. When they try to cut you some short check tell 'em you want another zero just left of the decimal point. Hey, it's worth a try. Good luck.
  2. From what I've read the stamping on the muffler(s) must match a sticker on the frame.
  3. This is the first time I've noticed a slow down since the change. No errors, just slower response time this evening.
  4. Steve, good luck with the surgeries. I hope your recovery is rapid and uneventful. And I don't even want a grill. (Already have one and love it!)
  5. Hi Rob, Welcome to the org! Glad to have you here.
  6. Had to do some digging. It's been a while since I got these. PL259 to Motorola male. PL259 to Motorola female.
  7. The second gen CB uses Motorola plugs.
  8. Tampering with your exhaust is illegal throughout the US due to EPA regulations. While nobody appears to be enforcing it right now, the offence carries a $10,000 fine.
  9. Thanks guys. I appreciate the replies. And Reiny, you capitalized if. Oh the temptation. I over tightened the bolt putting the display unit on the handlebars and managed to gall the threads. Taking that part off will be a bit of a problem so it's going to stay until I can find a nice chrome gauge cup for it. I think I'll take the receiver portion off. That should do it since it's the actual detector. I need to move it to a better spot anyway. Maybe this time I'll remember to take pictures. Anyway, thanks for the info!
  10. I don't know if it's that I'm getting not young or what, but my back hurts just reading that.
  11. What's the status of radar detectors in Canada? I have a Cruisader "built in" and it's gonna be a bit of a pain to uninstall. Normally when I'm in a no-detector place I just turn it off so they can't detect the leakage. Is this an issue? Any chance pulling the fuse will be enough?
  12. I don't know if you guys stepped up or were chased down. Either way, congratulations, and thanks for helping out!
  13. I got a six fuse block from Advance Auto Parts (well, I thought it was Autozone...). It's a Cooper Bussman catalog number BP/15600-06-20 $7.95. I wired it up with its own fuse, and simply dropped it in behind the battery. Fits like it was made to be there.
  14. I think this is the site the idea came from.
  15. This is not about the Rebel, but it might be of some use. My sister bought a V-Star 650. Same problem: Small hands, large clutch pull. On the engine end we threaded the cable through a light weight spring, with some wire loom to hide it. The spring pushes the clutch actuating arm away from the clutch cable mounting point. Taking that slack out shortens the clutch pull. If you look at the side of the engine and see three of four inches of clutch cable that's exposed then hooked to an actuating arm this may work for you. Just push backward on the arm and see if that changes the clutch pull. If it helps let me know and I'll snap some pics.
  16. They told me not to worry. The paths would be shoveled by then.
  17. Go to a store or two and test drive a few. Find one with a display you like and adequate response. Either buy that one, or write down the major specs - monitor size and processor speed, mostly - then call the Dell Dude. Or whomever. I prefer to feel a laptop prior to buying. Same for keyboards for desktop/towers - I use a Logitec Comfort Cordless ergonomic keyboard. You end up touching these things a lot. It's nice to actually like the feel.
  18. I like your idea better than anything I've seen so far. Looks great! The only concern I can think of is how the plastic will handle cleaning. A little plastic polish occasionally should take care of that.
  19. Nice looking Wing, Bill. I too like that color. Reminds me of something...
  20. Always glad to help.
  21. Go for it! Ubuntu is at least in part designed to help ease Windows users into the Linux world. Just remember that any CD version will be much slower than an installed version of the same thing. If you have any problems just ask. I've primarily run Red Hat and Fedora, so I may not know the answers to Ubuntu questions right off, but I'm working on installing it on my traveling laptop to test out. I'm downloading PCLinuxOS for a test also. If you decide to install it I recommend you add a drive. Most folks who aren't already doing anything too tricky usually have a spare slot available. Drives are pretty cheap, they're usually easy to install, and if Linux doesn't work out you can always turn it over to Windows. If you partition the existing drive and Windows ever needs a reinstall you'll lose your Linux partition. The Linux installers will find the Windows install and create the dual boot system, so you don't need anything extra if you decide to go that way. You can pick which is default then select the other at boot if you want. Some of the CD versions have proven useful for rescuing data from dead Windows systems. Might as well give it a try. It's just a CD.
  22. That bike pops up every now and then. It was entered in the Star Calendar contest in '06 (I think). It had two wheels then. Don't sweat the rehash. It's nice to see what they're doing with it. Aside from trying to sell it, that is.

I use Opera (browser) and probably had a dozen tabs open. Several were VentureRider.org pages. I posted this, then noticed I hadn't posted the other yet. It's there now.
