Oh gees, good question! I changed the bulb when I brought the bike in for the winter and dunno what I did with the box.. ergh.. wasn't a PIAA.. If I find the box I'll let you know.
-
They will give you a different level of lighting than if you had white lights.. not as brilliant. It will light up the side of the road for you but you won't see it an intense with white.. hard to explain. My headlight is bright enough that I don't need the highway lights to illuminate the road at all.. but I use them as to broaden my "light blob" as I approach traffic. A single headlight is a small blob of light coming head on, but a headlight and highway lamps is a wider blob which looks bigger (puff up, puff up, humans hate when you puff up).. make it amber like what I've done and I feel like you not only made you blob bigger but also more distinct..

Oh dear... one more thing to order before buttoning up the bike this spring.. =) You wouldn't have the P/N for these would you? Cheers NOTA: I found the P/N at Crutchfield.ca as "237XT40" Not expensive so I'll give them a try.. Though I wanna find out more about adding an amp to the system
-
the Amber lamps are a lot more "yellow" than your "orange" turn signals.. your signal lights won't get lost in the blaze of lights. Keep in mind you do have to make sure you have any highway lamp aimed correctly so you don't blind on coming traffic as well..
-
I had them on my VStar a while back but had long since removed the light bar (cheap POS brand light bar).. They do make you stand out to approaching traffic which to me is very important. As mentioned before, I have an aftermarket headlight bulb that outshines the oem highway lamps so amber was a good choice for being seen..

gees, I'll see if I can get the bike out through the snow bank lol. I do have some quick pics of the lights but they don't do the bike any justice.. I have to take the bike out to turn the engine so I'll see if I can some pics of it later on..

Its very much a Plug'n'Play installation.. too easy.

Hi Earl, the NAPA lights that I got had everything ready to roll so you didn't have to do anything to them as listed in the instructions page you posted. Slick as ... as.. well easy to do
-
here in Canada they were $35 a pair.. In the USA they should be a lot cheaper, just a quick switch over of lenses. Not hard at all..

Crutchfield sells 'cones' for these speakers which fit behind them, apparently they push the sound forward more, prolly making it sound better.. ?
-
I installed Amber Passing / Highway lamps on my Midnight, info on the box to show you what to order if you're also so interested in doing the same.. Lights were available at local NAPA dealer, you can see the part number on the box. I have a super bright headlight installed which is brighter than the highway lights, so I added the Amber lights to be more noticeable on the highway.. Some were asking about them, you can see it on my bike and decide if it's decent looking or 'uhgly' lol http://www.eastcoastphotos.com/venture/amberlights01.jpg http://www.eastcoastphotos.com/venture/amberlights02.jpg

Well done, I installed these speakers in mine the year before and to be honest, I didn't 'hear' any improvement, they were certainly not louder.. Playing radio / mp3 from my Polks next to an OEM bike speakers, you can't tell the difference. However, I changed mine out as one of my OEM speakers were shot so why not. Did you find a large improvement or just a slight one?

BAH who needs organizers.. ?? I just reach deep down and pull up what I hope is what I'm looking for, if it's not, it's usually something I HAD been looking for previously.. That under the lid organizer looks interesting, for them small light things that go jumping all over the place.. Hmmm Would love to see a pic of it installed mind you..

1st an 2nd Genaration tell the different??
Seaking replied to ronjolly's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
ONE of these days, those 1st Genners will finally realize that the reason they leave us 2nd Genners in the dust like that is because we allow them to.. WE have no need to puff up and pretend our bikes are actually faster just so that we can feel good with our choice of bikes.. But it's been proven that it's best to let the 1st Genner believe what they want so that they can join us on the big roads trip.. Basically what we all do for the Harley guys.. kinda but with kindness -
Did they say how long it would take for the rings to come in? In regards to the load equalizers (LE), because our bikes have 2 indicators, he suggests we don't need the LE but will they still flash faster than normal? Good info, thanks!
-
(A) too many people telling me the same thing over and over and over is more annoying that adding load equalizers.. (B) fast flashers around here will have the cops pulling me over to tell me one of my bulbs is out.. even though I have to show the cop all is good, he's still wasted his time from his important duties pulling me over when I could have done something simple to avoid all that.. But hey, that's just me
-
Hmmm maybe I should wait before ordering lol.. i think you DO need the load equalizer otherwise your signal flash will be too rapid.. I dunno.. I'll be ordering mine none the less.. I had been rummaging down in the storage and found two sets of signal lights that came off my VStar (currently being modded) so I might still try to do the Moon lights if I can find a way to mount these.. be intresting concept eh?
-
If I am not mistaken the FRONT are #1157 and the rear #1156.. if you're thinking of the New Moon Shinez, double check your provincial MVA to see if you can actually use them.. I had discussed this aspect with their tech people.. The Shinez are insanely bright white lights that stay on all the time but when you signal right or left, the lights blink off and on.. but they stay on all the time.. Nice.. Unfortunately, Nova Scotia's Motor Vehicle Act states that your signal lights need to be AMBER .. and only AMBER.. so these Moon Shinez aren't legal as replacement signal lights.. but you could use them as an auxiliary light..

lightbar spacing
Seaking replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I painted mine black so you can't even notice at all.. the lights sit forward a bit more but to me, again a personal preference thing as you said, looks great that way.. I used rubberized rockerpanel guard paint to coat it as it will stick to it no matter way =) -
lightbar spacing
Seaking replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Look through the forums here for a solid aluminium block that someone is selling that sits between the mount and light bar. it does what you need so you'll never ever have to loosen the bolts ever again.. In my case, too many people munged my lightbar mounting screw holes and I ended up having to use pass through bolts which thanksfully worked out great for my application.. I've had the fairing on and off several times now, never hesitating about the light bar.. Best of Luck -
Traveling MAY -JUNE for Maintance

Thanks Jonas, I don't know if you followed the threads from last year but I had the misfortune of my bike breaking down as we arrived at Earl's place but had the best of times enjoying their hospitality while waiting for the bike to be repaired.. My buddy and I owe SkyDoc and the missus another rib supper at the very least =) My buddy and I spent a lot of time on the road together last year, we're kind of hoping to get a long haul done this time instead of breaking it up in little outings .. Should be more fun hehe... too much fun.. Norway eh? I've been up to Bodo and Vestfjord (sp) in Oct a few years in a row playing silly bugger games with the Ruskies.. beautiful country.. Cheers M8 -

Traveling MAY -JUNE for Maintance

Hi guys.. A buddy and I are taking 2 to 3 weeks off to hit the road and tour the lower part of the USA, prolly down the eastern seaboard, across to Texas and / or all points in between.. We may take in Rolling Thunder at the end of May in Washington DC, then across to see Sky Doc for a proper visit this time (and some ribs).. from there the road is open.. I keep catching glimpse of mentioning of "Maintenance Days" and such but can't seem to figure out the who what where when.. I'm interested in hooking up with the learned people and enthusiasts in order to learn how to do more of the advanced maintenance on my bike.. Can anyone point to the info as to what where and when some of these events are taking place, or people available to teach how to do some of the maintenance on our bikes.. ? We plan to put a lot of miles on the bike and see a lot of places.. so drop me a line.. Thanks in advance. -
How to tell if the rear shock it going bad?
Seaking replied to Gamecock's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If it holds AIR then that's a good thing.. but a useless thing if the shock lost all it's oil... In that case you have a nice air shock which is useless. When I was visiting Sky Doc last summer, it was discovered by one of the shops who fixed my bike that my shock was dead.. all the oil leaked out. And luckily for me, my bike is a US bike so it was covered under warranty.. How to test if it's dead or not? Well a lot of oil leaking out of it is one clue.. however, a lot of soft bouncing is not a good thing.. and I kept the air pressure very high.. Now that the new shock is on, what a difference.. I'm sure the experts here will be able to provide you with more info that I can.. Best of luck!
