  1. WOW, really awsome video. I am praying for our men and women. How fortunate we are, to live with the free. The cost will not be forgotten by me. James
  2. Shewwwww, Ruffy....big differance in woman and dame or female dog. What a surprise. I first thought that maybe your wife had just told you that she was expecting???? Have a nice day.
  3. I changed both front and rear. Used Avon venoms. I put a ratchet strap (small 1 inch across) around the tire centered and then put the air in, also used straight dish washing soap all the way around rim. Just tighten the strap to push bead toward rim and then air. I never noticed how much pressure, but would quess around 80 - 120 psi. to seat. No problems at all. Oh Ya, don't forget to grease splines and end of driveshaft and all. The driveshaft can be a bit of a pain to get back, but just keep fooling with it and it will finally just fall into place. There is a lot of info about this here. I tried the wire thing to get driveshaft back in place, and did not work for me. Also remember the correct way to put the rear axle back into wheel and tighten correctly, very important...
  4. This is a post that I put up after installing my Roadhouse pipes, still love them and would reccomend them highly. Sounds like a Corvett on steroids somebody said. Dont forget about the AIS sytem plug and you might want to put K&N air filters in and then have carbs synced. Sounds like alot but really nothing to it.There is plenty of help here. Ride on and make some rumble noise. I get 44 - 45 mpg now. Got 38 before pipe and filters and carb sync ( carb sync was only $20.00 at dealler, so don't let someone cheat you). "Got the pipes on everyone, and love the sound(Roadhouse Pipes - slash cut). Loud enough but not to loud. Very good rumble. Installation OK, just did not care for the wood block and hammer persuasion I had to use. But still worked out good. Have to kinda wiggle them as you go and take a wood block and drive them on a little ways at a time (wood block against the muffler hanger ). Then bolt up and tighten clamp. I also used some high heat silicone on pipe /muffler connection. I then unplugged the AIS and installed K&N filters. Purrs like a lion. I like the Roadhouse, good chrome to the end of slash cut pipes. I did not go with Bubs because I did not like the polished aluminum ends, I like the slash cut. Fuzzy
  5. Big Mike, I thought I would pass along some information that I gathered a few weeks ago. The phone number for Avon is 1-800-624-7470 customer service. I bought new ones and after reading a few posts here I became concerned and called them. They said that most of the trouble that Avon had from these tires was in the 2005 yr. There is a four digit number with a circle around them on the side of the tire. The first two digits is the week the tire was made of the last two digits of that yr. for instance 4505 would be 45 th week of 2005 yr. These tires are under a five yr warranty and the Customer Rep assured me, along with several other people, that they would replace and pay for mounting if any problems come up. I also ask why there is no painted dot on the tires. The rep told me that the tires are manufactured so close to tollerance that they do not need dot. I just came back from a four day ride of 1,090 miles and I am very pleased with the tires. My tires are made in 2008.I put them on myself with some help from a friend and then had them balanced for $15.00 a piece. The handling was so much better than the Bickstones. I am very very very impressed so far. Just had to give my 2 cents worth....
  6. Great pictures you all. I was glad to be invited and would try come along next time if able. This time I already had made our annual ride plans to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Myself and a good friend of mine have been riding to the mountains every year now for about 4-5 yrs. My brother went along this time. We had a great ride, around 1,090 miles all together. We also had great weather. I will post pictures ASAP (I hope mine turn out half as good as yours). So glad everyone on your ride had such a good time and all made it home safe. James
  7. Sleeperhawk, I spoke with Avon company customer service (1-800-624-7470) today. My tires dated front 0308 which means that it was made 3 rd week of 08 yr. My rear is 4508 wich means it was made 45 th week of 08 yr. The customer service person told me that they have had a few 05 yr and very few 06 and 07 problems. Also said that tires are waranted for 5 yrs from date of purchase. He said that this had not been a great issue with them so far and that there was not very many reports. He assured me that if I had any problem at all, that Avon would replace and pay someone to put them on. So I have no regrets now at all. These tires according to him are manufactured with such great care to get them evenly balanced that the company does not put the paint dot on the tire.
  8. I got 38 MPG to start at new. I then added Roadhouse pipes, done the AIS plug and also did K&N filters then had carbs cinked for $20.00 at local dealer (I watched and carbs where out quite a bit, made big differance, really smoothed out) . After that got 44 MPG regulary at speeds from around 55 mile an hour to some interstate at 70-75 mile an hour, one up and some times loaded heavy, rugular low octane gas always.
  9. Thanks Goose, I feel better now...SSSHHHOOO, I was getting sick over that, thinking I would have to do everything all over again. Got a ride planned for this month (May 21 st 3-4 days Blue Ridge Parkway, south end from Boone NC down),my brother and long time friend JD Holbrooks riding together. My brother and I are putting a Dunlop 404 rear on brothers Honda Magna as soon as weather permits him to ride over to my garage. My front Venom tire dated 0308 , Rear Venom 4508, so I think and hope they will be fine. Again THANKS for clearing that up. Looking for a riding route back from southern end BR Parkway. We will have southern 74 mile done sometime that Fri. evening and still half a day Fri to ride and all Sat and want to be back home here in Carter county KY around 10:00 AM Sunday morn. James
  10. Well Sleeperhawk, after reading most of threads about the Avon Venoms I am wishing that I would have went with Dunlop. I am going out to garage now to check the manufacture date on sidewall. A lot of people having sidewall cracks. Do search for Venom Tires and read on ????
  11. Well, thats a new one for me Freebird. I quess I should have checked for latest information before ordering. Hope mine don't crack, but I sure am satisfied so far. Thanks ...
  12. YES, stock size,SilvrT..No rubbing or anything, perfect fit. I actually put the new Avon front tire on with my hands only, didn't even have to use tire iron (just the good old dish washing liquid).
  13. Well just arrived home from a shorty trip of around 30 mile or so, on my new Avon Venoms (front and back). Man I really love these tires. Thanks to everyone for your help and replies about the tires. I tried them out on the two lanes here (US 60) about 12 mile, and then hit the big road (I-64). Fastest ever had her since purchase, around 105 mph, SSSMMMMOOOOTTTHHH as silk. Very good tires. The stalk Brickstones had 4000 miles on them, run back tire low on air for about 120 mile or so and it is almost completely worn out in center. I was having a knee problem (had to have surgery) and didn't relise the tire was that low, wanted to check but knee would not let me. I usually keep a good check on my tires. But I think it worked out best for me anyway. I really like those Venoms. Bike handles so much better at all speeds and conditions. Just got to get them skuffed in now. I did the complete tire change myself, with a little help from a friend and you all. I did all the grease on splines and changed differintial grease for the second time, just because it was so handy. I took the tires on wheels to a shop and he computer balanced them for me for $15.00 a piece. The back tire, after removed the weights from factory, did not even have to have any weight, perfect. The front had to have just 3/4 once. I have a question for those that have changed there own tires. Do the Venoms have a paint mark to go by ? I could not find any kind of valve mark. And what about when it comes time to change again, just put back the same ? I love my Laran jack. once again , thanks to all.
  14. Knifeeven, It is not a bad job at all. I would reccomend the K&N air filter to replace the stock. They are pricy, but you only have to do this once with this filter.
  15. Ya, just what he said.... looking yo see video maybe ??? Thanks
  16. Thanks Pappy, that is a great idea. I used a couple of those star medalions to dress up my mudflaps that a good friend of mine hand made for me. They look factory. Thanks again.
  17. Ya, not a bad idea. I have a good friend in Ohio who might be able to help with that. I will call him now and find out. **Update; just got off the phone and he said that the places that done the chrome where gone out or moved. He did say that this was very exspensive. Still a good idea maybe, worth some more investigating.
  18. Thanks pegscraper, good idea. Wonder if anyone has done that and had good results? But I really thought that this thread would turn up some company making a cover reasonabley priced for the back of these ugly floor boards. If I thought that my wife would never ever ride with me someday, I would take them off for good. Thanks everyone for your imput so far.
