  1. Several years ago I was transfering all my vehicles and home to Farm Bureau Ins and at that time my son had full coverage on his CBR600 bike with them. They would not at the time insure my Venture. I ended up staying with Allstate for liability/uninsured motorist. Now they will insure my Venture and if he drops the CBR600, they will not pick it up again. My yearly is $142 with higher rates. I raise the rates from minimum to a lot higher after Yammer Dans underinsured problem on the idiot that hit him. RandyA
  2. Another suggestion would be to use a very slight amount of something like anti seaze on a bolt and place it or screw into the threads that are left and then use epoxy around the bolt, making sure you do not get any anti seaze on the areas away from the threads. After the epoxy sets up, unscrew the bolt and you have ready made threads. RandyA
  3. I see that now Dan, thanks. Given the rest of the cap is intact, I wonder if he could do a good epoxy job to restore the wall for the threads for the cover bolt? Maybe even epoxy a stud in and put a nut on top of the cover. RandyA
  4. If you want to add a little bling to your rims, chroming is probably not a good idea. You would have to highly polish everything before chroming to look decent. What I suggest is to polish the machined area between the tire edge and the painted area near the spokes. Once polished, it would take fairly routine polishing to look good. RandyA
  5. Got tied up today, will try tomorrow. RandyA
  6. I have some off a 1300 engine. It would be hit or miss as these things are line bored in the head with the cap torqued down and then taken apart and the cam installed. Are you missing one or did it get damaged? RandyA
  7. OK, somewhere between July 4th weekend when I was in Birmingham on my bike and met Don & Susan Harrell and Vogal I. RandyA
  8. Tim, I have a homemade one on my 83. If I get a chance I will take my side bags off and see if I can get you some measurments and pictures this afternoon. Mine works real good even though it is probably heavier than a manufactured one. RandyA
  9. Well, since next Thursday is my 40th anniversity, I would say about 03-69. RandyA
  10. Our company IT department just released the following message: Do not open any email with subject 'Job offer from Coca Cola', or 'Thank you for your application' or Hallmark ecards. Delete immediately as they contain a virus that will crash your computer. RandyA
  11. I would go with slightly below the middle with it on the center stand. RandyA
  12. The most aggressive in slowing my 83 down was the EBC HH pads. They are also a bit more aggressive on the rotors, but worked real well when pulling my 450 lb loaded camper. RandyA
  13. OK, then I guess it will mean stupid in the future when these idiots are deaf from listening to TOO loud rap racket with mega base. RandyA
  14. Squidley, you beat me to it. I was going to send him the left one that Lowell sent me, thinking it was a right one. RandyA
  15. If you do happen to listen to rap racket, you will notice the language it terrible. Two attractive young women pulled up beside me back in the summer playing rap and the "F" word was used several times in each sentence. I guess if you have anything drummed into your head long enough, it becomes normal, A couple of years ago we had a hearing test done at work and as I was waiting my turn, I got to talking to the audiologist about rap and he stated a good business to be in in the future will be for the hearing impaired. He stated that the most damaging sound to the ear is base, or low frequency sounds. Anybody remember many years ago when the term "deaf and dumb" was used about deaf people? Of course, now we do not associate deafness with IQ as it is not a factor. In the future are we going to again refer to deaf and dumb with self induced deafness? RandyA
  16. I went from an Avon on the rear to an Elite 3 and do like it. I need to replace the front Avon soon and will try to find an Elite 3 locally. RandyA
  17. Hey Steve, I used to have a spare Reserve light unit if I can find it. Give me a call this weekend. RandyA
  18. First thing, welcome home!! Next, I want to suggest that you bite the bullet and take the carbs off and do a good cleaning job. One of the big problems on these bikes, especially if they have set for a while is glogged pilot jets. It is a lot of work, but you will be happy with the results. If you have holes in the diaphrams, there is a fix that works fairly good for a while. Maybe all of us that want diaphrams can get some on this buy we are investigating. RandyA
  19. The Oddesy 680 is promoted on this site because it works great and solves some of the problems of the 1st gen. The fit is easy to fix. RandyA
  20. Yeah Lew, no reading glasses and dyslexia is a challenge. The parking lot suggestion is great and something else to keep in mind is upper range TIRE pressures really help these things, especially at low speeds. A low range tire pressure makes them wallow. Go for at least 40psi in the front. Also Get up to about 15mph and start doing some swinging back and forth and increase the amount of lean as you practice. RandyA
  21. When you had the rear tire replaced, did you have the pumpkin removed along with the driveshaft and grease all the splines? If you did not do this, you need to. It could be a transmitted engine vibration such as out of sync carbs, running on three cylinders, etc. How does the bike run? Have you checked to see if you may have a dead cylinder? You can do this by starting the bike from being cold and let it run for about 5 to 10 seconds and cut it off and feel the temps on the header pipes. Obviously, a cool one will be a dead cylinder. RandyA
  22. That makes sense. I did not realize the coasters locked. RandyA
  23. Knees. before you tear in to anything, make sure the electrical connections are good and tight on the gas tank sending unit. I have fixed several that had intermitten readings by tightening the terminals. That may work for you. RandyA
  24. My question is, how hard is it to get off the dolly by putting the center stand down? My bike already spins around very easy when on the center stand because I have a steel wheel on the side of the right leg foot. RandyA
  25. Ditto! Ditto! Ditto! RandyA
