I forgot if you said you were going to trailer the Midnight down here in January. If you do, we might be able to do it at Thom's (if he doesn't mind).
-
We could have another meet and re-set your float levels. I'm just sayin'.

I bought the can mentioned above at: A Line Auto Parts 40300 Business 290, Waller, TX 77484 (936) 372-2114

About half way to a M&E last year , ol' Wilderbeast started popping and sputtering and barely would idle. It had set about three weeks in the garage without being ran. It was only about thirty miles to the meet and the bike was runing great when I left the house. Gunboat told me about 44K (he heard about it from Tom). We stopped on the way home and got some. Before I got home it ran sweet again.

I started having the dreaded popping at deceleration again. My AIS is connected and I have new spark plugs (as of June, 5K on them). There is no noticeable cracks in the vacuum lines or carb nipple covers. I do have some leakage at the "Y" pipes. Before the Texas Panhandle Maintenance Day I put a can of 44K in the gas tank, ran it one day, let it sit for three days and then we took off towards North Texas. The popping is gone. If you think you have dirty carburetors and Seafoam hasn't helped, try the 44K. Ponch

For anyone contemplating the clutch upgrade, go for it. It's easy and very beneficial. I didn't think there was any slippage before the kit install, but it feels much stronger now. The only thing I noticed at first was a stronger lever pull and I stalled it a few times at take off. It used to slip easier at take off. I pushed it real hard pulling a trailer and it seemed much more responsive. So I guess maybe it was slipping a little before the change. James we can do yours any evening if you want. Tom, we can even do yours in Alpine. Really it's that easy and fast to do. It takes longer to clean the old gasket off of the engine case and clutch cover than anything else. Ponch

Got back about 7:00 Sunday night. 1268 miles total. Great weather going and coming. A little cool for this So TX boy (Forrest laughed at me for wearing two jackets when the sun went down). Imagine that. Thanks to Jerry for hosting this, Priscilla for putting up with us and Shawn (Jerry's neighbor) who smoked some darn good Pork Loin & cheese. Gunboat & I had a great ride and only saw a few deer. Thanks Jack (Silver Bullet) for the insight into the clutch upgrade & Basket change details. Rick made the broken bolt removal easy by pre-drilling a pilot hole dead center in the bolt. He even brought a real good cordless drill (I meant to relieve him of it, but I forgot). He even had a set of reverse twist drill bits. I just drilled the bolt out in reverse and when it got through the weld nut, the bolt came out while I was drilling. It was great to meet everyone. Especially Forrest (FLB) who can throw a Venture around like it was a 300lb dirt bike, which he did several times. Here's my pics. Ponch

My issue was low PSI in the trailer tires. I bumped the PSI to 30 in the trailer tires and the handling was good!

GunBoat and I made it to Claude, Tx about 8:30 tonight. Should see you about 9:00or so in the morning, depending on how far we are fom Borger. Ponch

removed cassette, added gauges......done
Ponch replied to jlh3rd's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I could do that. The plastic at the bottom of the casstte player opening has to be cut anyway, so I think you could cut it deep (low) enough for a 2 1/16" gauge. Let me experiment and I'll get back with you. I have an install to do tomorrow. I'll look at the available space. -
I have 6MM, 8MM and 10MM taps.
-
We'll have drill bits, I have taps and if we need anything else, I'm sure the local hardware store will have it.
-
I'll bring it.
-
If it can wait, we can tackle it next Saturday at Jerry's.

For what it's worth, the inside passage is very rough seas in places. Not that a small ship would be in danger, that's not it. The larger ships smooth out rougher waters quiter a bit. If you succomb easily to motion sickness, it matters. The 300+ passenger ship we were on got pretty darn close to the Glaciers.

That's great Brad. What a surprise! If Don don't have room for it, I'll squeeze it in at my place for ya!

Second opinion on 26K service?
Ponch replied to Dave77459's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Checking and adjusting the neck bearings is an easy job. We can do that one afternoon if you want. We need a lot more time to dis-assemble and re-pack them, however. -
Second opinion on 26K service?

No way I would spend $800.00 for something I can do myself, especially if there's no way it would affect the warranty. I like Brian, but I think I would have slapped him if he mis-quoted what I asked for and then doubled the quote. Ponch -
Second opinion on 26K service?

Dave, If you're concerned about warranty issues, pay the $400.00. If not, we can do it. I have the shim kit, but I am waiting on the tool to arrive. If you are using Houston Motorsports, the service manager Brian is pretty lax about doing your own service. He even suggested I buy my own kit and do it myself as they are usually backed up about three weeks for heavy service. It's quite a time consuming event. After having done it, I can see why the dealers charge so much. Ponch -
As Marcarl said, make sure where the leak is first. Try your best to find out if it is leaking from above or from the spot on the photo where the oil drip is. If the photo indicates where the leak is, you may have to change a gasket.

I just hit it every couple of weeks with WD40 during the wet season. Follow with a little three-in-one oil. This lasts a good while during a dry season (whatever that is).

For the Cody bunch, it seems we dodged a bullet. Local weather channel announced that there was 15" of snow in Red Lodge Montana yesterday (10/06/09). Furthermore, the same weather service noted that the Mt. Rushmore monument (official visitor center, I suppose) was closed due to snow.
