    Thanks

You're welcome Brad! And if you want them installed you've got to come over here.
  2. Retired at age 49 with a golden hand shake (not expected) and company pension. I did plan on retiring young so invested accordingly. Best advice is to get a good financial advisor and read the book "The wealthy Barber. They should make that book part of the High School curriculum.
  3. I feel a pissing contest coming on so I'm not going there. Please go back and read what I wrote.
  4. I don't know what "Mordita" is???? But I do know on most items purchased in the U.S. THERE IS NO "CUSTOMS DUTY" or "IMPORT FEES". NAFTA eliminated most duties. That's part of the reason we're losing most of our mfg. jobs to Mexico, China etc. but that's another topic. If you are shipping via UPS, FedEx or some other courier than the buyer is having to pay their (UPS, FedEx etc.) brokerage fees plus provincial and federal sales taxes. The sales taxes are paid at the retail point of purchase or if you're importing than you pay either at the border or post office or courier depending on how you bring it in. USPS still remains the least expensive way to have anything shipped from the States.
  5. Nothing is really "FREE" Dan. Over 50% of our pay cheques go for taxes of some sort. Income, property, sales tax, health care, etc., etc. As far as social benefits,, I wish someone would tell me what these are. It's easier for somebody to arrive at our boarder, claim he's a refugee and get all kinds of help ($$$) than it is for a tax paying citizen. In recent years the gov't. has downloaded everything back to regional and local gov'ts. and it's becoming a user pay system. I'm not totally against this but my tax bill hasn't gotten any lower. I love this country and don't think I'd want to live anywhere else (except in the winter) but it's not the utopia some people seem to think it is. I'm done now.

  7. The clicking when you first start it is normal. That's the electric fuel pump. Sorry I can't help with the CD player problem.
  8. All good info. I'm a firm believer in the modulating headlight as a safety item and think it should be factory installed on all bikes. I know it's saved my life more than once. The cagers see that flashing bright light and say whoa what the heck is that.
  9. There seems to be a lot of variables. Full face helmet, 3/4 or 1/2 all make a difference to the sound level. Loud pipes and music or ear plugs can mask some of the engine / trans / clutch / tire or rear end sounds. I think the windshield height can also make a difference too. If you use the stock height shield you probably hear more of the mechanical sounds then with a shorter shield. Just by turning your head left or right changes the tone of the mechanical sounds too.
  10. 0.99 / litre = app. $3.75 / US gallon if the dollar is at par or about $4.50 / Imp. gallon The GST rebate for visitors was eliminated a while ago I believe. Just saw that on the news this week.
  11. Too bad Jerry. It's only about 550 miles for you. That's just a nice day trip. Probably never get that close again.

Well it's kind of like drinking black coffee. Once you develop a taste for it you'll never go back.
  13. I haven't got a clue??? I think they are about $6 or $7. Last time I bought some they where 0.50 a pack.
  14. All you American members who are planning to come up to Canada next summer for the VR rally be prepared. 1) Just about everything costs more up here especially gas (about $3.75/US gallon right now) and most better quality hotels/motels. What you guys typically pay $50 for expect to pay $80 - $100. 2) Beer and other alcoholic type beverages cost twice as much or more than in the U.S. Likewise for cigarettes. 3) Your U.S. dollar, as of today was trading at or very close to par with our CDN dollar. By next summer it could cost you to by CDN dollars so you might want to buy some up now before the exchange advantage goes to far the other way, as predicted. Don't want to scare anyone away, just want you to be aware if you aren't already. Our bikes already whine enough:rotf:

Carl, I had to have my gallbladder removed. I don't know if there is that much cutting actually involved. More of a vacuum cleaner type deal I think. 3 holes for the TV camera etc. and 1 hole for the vacuum???
  18. Good Luck Larry, hope everything goes well for you. We'll be thinking of you.

Thanks for the get well wishes everyone. I got home from the hospital at 10:00pm tonight. Everything went pretty much as they said it would. I haven't had anything for pain since 3:00 pm and so far haven't felt the need for any. I'm not supposed to do much including ride the bike for a couple of weeks. Not doing much comes easy, not riding the bike, not so easy. Gambler and Eck, I really like the idea of you guys cleaning and polishing my bike. Not sure I want a guy who's use to a 1st gen riding my bike though. Look what happened when Charlie borrowed Squid's. So since Gambler is closer he can do the cleaning and polishing and have it ready for Eck when he gets here. But I'll bet that I will be able to ride it by the time he gets here so we'll all just have to go for a ride, eat some food and drink some beer.

Thanks Brad, worse part of the whole thing is I won't be able to ride for a while and the weather is absolutely perfect right now.
  21. Good to hear Brad. I'm sure everything will be fine as long as you stay out of the kitchen.
  22. I tried to answer your PM but your mail box is full and won't accept anymore messages. You need to delete a few old ones. I also tried to send by E-mail but you have that disabled too. Let me know when you clean house and I'll reply again.
  23. Thanks Eddie, that's what I did too.
  24. Low threshold for pain there Bob???...LOL I thought the Bub's sounded fine before I repacked them. Now Mama likes them too. You haven't heard loud until you've ridden a Roadie with V&H Longshots.
  25. Yesterday I finally got around to re-packing my Bub mufflers. When I did the HD fishtail mod I found that all of the original packing had long gone and with the new tips there was now a 1/4" gap all around the rear baffle plate. I found this packing on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/20-x-38-MOTORCYCLE-EXHAUST-MUFFLER-PACKING-WRAP_W0QQitemZ140148216528QQihZ004QQcategoryZ35573QQcmdZViewItem I pulled the baffles back out and I was able to use 1/2 of a sheet and get about 3 wraps on each baffle. I used some high heat RTV silicone to fill the gap left around the rear baffle plate. The muffs now have a deeper tone and are a lot quieter when cruising but still sound good when getting on the throttle. Here's a link to the post about the HD fishtail install. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=114428#post114428
