This is truly upsetting news. I've only met a few people from the group here as this is my first season. Gary is one of them. Labour day weekend he came to our neck of the woods for a ride. He is a great guy. I am praying that the Lord will be with him in this time of need. Wayne

thank you cowpuc: I agree. Stud will be a blessing for her and me. I have total confidence in her as a driver. She is very responsible and safe. I just need to reinforce the fact that other people are NOT. Especially cagers. Too many times they just don't see the bike. Looking for something bigger and the bike dosn't register. I appreciate your input. She just joined the forum in the last few minutes. Her name here is biker2be Wayne

cowpuc: Yes I beleve the scooter was automatic. Yes she can drive a standard. My cars have all been standard and that is what she learned to drive on. Wayne

Dragerman and cowpuc I agree with both of you. BUT here is my situation. She is 22 and living across the country from me. She is determined to do this so if I can set her up with someone there to lookout for her it would be awsome. She has months of experience on a scooter in Australia. I am nervous but by and large this is out of my hands. If she was living in my area I agree and I could do the whole dirt bike thing with her. I road a dirt bike for lots of years as well. I can try and talk her out of it but that usually backfires. Any suggestions? Wayne

Thank you so much Stewart: I've given her your phone number and she is going to call. I will feel so much better if someone is looking out for her. Maybe you can give her some defensive driving tips etc. This is sooooo AWSOME!!! I love this place. Wayne

Nope... not much help but a good thought anyways.

Hi folks: My daughter wants to get a bike. I'm nervous and proud at the same time. A few problems I'm having. First one is that I'm in Ontario and she is attending Simon Fraser University in Vancouver B.C. For her to get a license she needs to get her beginners and then needs someone 25 or over to ride within eyesight of her. She knows nobody in the Vancouver area that rides a bike. She is looking at a Yamaha 400 street bike which is small enough to handle in the city but big enough to take the hills and for short jaunts on a hwy. She also wants to take the MC course but the last one for this year starts this week which dosn't give her enough time to get onboard with that so she intends to do that next spring. She has never driven a bike but has ridden on my 84 VR and has also had some experience on a scooter. I guess I'm looking for suggestions. Best case scenario would be a member from Vancouver sort of taking her under their wing to get her going and maybe even go with her to look at this 400 she is interested in. Thanks for listening. Wayne

oldandcrotchety " this was before i carried a tire repair kit. " I've never had a flat on my scoot (thank you Lord) and hope I never will but I was wondering (just in case) what would a "tire repair kit" consist of? Wayne
-
Are you talking about using ABS cement that you can buy at any hardware store? By itself or with ground up peices of ABS. I cannot picture making tabs with just the cement. Pictures and description would be very welcome. Wayne

Robin and I are intending to be there as well and like Carl says.. Just need to know where is. Wayne

I've seen them from $145.00 to $195.00. I think I'm going to try without. There seems to be enough movement so I don't believe there will be a problem. Anything I've seen is that MAYBE if they had a swivel it WOULD have saved them. Nothing definite. Also I believe that when pulling a trailer I would be driving somewhat different or more conservative than without the trailer.
-
I know with all the knowledge here that someone can explain this for me. I have a utility trailer I want to modify to pull with my scoot and wanted to know if a swivel hitch is necessary or can I pull with just the standard hitch and ball. It seems that with the trailer on the ball there is enough side to side movement that a swivel is unnecessary but the idea seems right. Any takers? Wayne

biker down need left fairing
Wizard765 replied to mother's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi Scott: Too bad it wasn't a right fairing. Anyhow I smacked my bike in the spring and was back up and running in about two weeks. Got the right fairing from eBay and it was even the right colour. It ain't perfect but it works. I have a spare as well but here is a left on on eBay right now. LEDs for taillight?
Wizard765 replied to cimmer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
In most cases LED lights are great because they draw less power but for signal lights they don't draw enough power so the lights either don't work any more or you get warning lights on the dash. IMHO I would stay with standard 1157 bulbs for the signals. -

You can get them new and newly rebuilt for less than that on eBay. You could also get yours rebuilt for less than that as well. -
Same question as Eck... Do you lift it up? Ramp and boat winch? Magic?

Headlight Cover Replacement
Wizard765 replied to bojivike's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi Bojivike: Welcome to the site. Awsome people here and a great place to come. I have a spare glass cover for the headlight if you need it. PM me and we can make arrangements. Wayne -
I have / had a similar problem with my radio. The MEM button didn't work so I couldn't get the side buttons to remember stations. Anyhow I took it apart and liberally sprayed electronic contact cleaner into the micro switches and moved them a bunch of times while the cleaner was still wet. Put it back together and all the buttons work fine now.

Lowering my 83 Venture
Wizard765 replied to mellco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My friend has an 87 Aspencade and we noticed that his seat height is almost 2" lower than my 84 VR. Last week we both had our seats in for repair. While they were apart we compaired notes. All of the height difference is in the foam of the seat. Mine has at least 2" more foam and is somewhat more comfortable. So I guess taking some foam out won't be a big problem and as long as you don't take out too much it should be just fine. You could also take out more foam and replace with a gel pack. I heard that a gel seat is VERY comfy. -

Help tracking down electrical issue
Wizard765 replied to uthpda's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes they can work sometimes and not work other times when they go. Mine did that. I have a used one here. I bought a new one from eBay and replaced my unit that was only working part time. I also got some other parts at another time and one of the items was a flasher unit. I havn't tested it but they told me it was working in the old bike.- 24 replies

Here in Canada from the dealer it is expensive ($150.00) but I got mine from eBay new in a bag for about $30. It is behind the dash. Not difficult to get at though. I took off the windshield and then the top of the dash. Once in there you can see it. There are a number of relays back there and the biggest is this flasher switch. It isn't like a car because it has self canceling circuits.- 24 replies

Carl: I was browsing eBay and came across a CB / Radio noise filter. I know you got the CB from an 86 and wondered if this filter comes with it or is it something that comes with the radio. Does your bike have this filter? Item #: 230145066136
