  1. The drive belt is fairly easy to change. The swing arm in held on with 1 BIG bolt. I had to replace my belt twice on my Roadstar. That's why I don't have a Roadstar anymore.
  2. Usually, a body shop will charge more in labor to fix a part off a bike then the insurance can buy a new one for, especially when they also have to pay the bike shop to tear the bike down to get all the damaged parts off.
  3. umm...you happen to have the inner fairing? The one on the dash side? mine's cracked.
  4. At least until this Dunlop Elite 3 wears out. I bought a used wheel off ebay. They didn't show the tire very well and I didn't care because I wanted the wheel and rotor. Well, lo and behold, it shows up today and the tire looks almost new. I'll run this tire off until it's gone and come back. I can't turn down a free tire. I bought the wheel, rotor and tire for 142 shipped. Now tire changes can be done at my convenience and faster. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm37.l1313%26satitle%3D400005069327%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1&item=400005069327&viewitem=

    tracking Lowell

It would be interesting to get a SPOT for Lowell. I watched a group of friends travel to Alaska on it and I was able to use Google maps to see the terrain. I know the SPOT has saved several lives of adventurists. http://www.findmespot.com/en/
  6. Did you mount the tire up yourself or did a shop do it for you? I'm just wondering if the bead set straight. I've seen several tires that shook because they did not bead up straight. On my first bike, I had a dealer mount up my first set of tires because I did not know how at the time. The front tire was not mounted straight and after about 1000 miles, the entire front end shook between 30-50. If you want, I could take a gander at it sometime. Every tire has a "mounting line" that can be watched while the tire spins.
  7. They fail because Yamaha runs most of the electrical system through the switch instead of a relay. Every time a switch is opened or closed, it sparks and causes wear on the terminals. The greater the load, the greater the spark and the greater the wear.

  9. I run my BFG at 32 psi. BigBoyinMS runs his Kuhmo at 42psi. You'll just have to play with the pressures until you find what works for your bike.
  10. The 155/80R15 drops the rear end about an inch. The 165/80R15 does not drop the bike.
  11. I had a wobble. I fixed it with a Works performance shock. Did you go to the Darkside?
  12. It's 165 from most sites. That's an interesting tire. I wonder though if they put the same stickiness characteristics into the skinny tires as they do the fat ones.
  13. I picked up my BFG off eBay.
  14. I have a BFG on now but it's about bald after 13,000 miles. That's almost twice what I usually get out of a motorcycle tire. I have a Federal on order. I'm also going to be in need of new mufflers soon. I've managed to drag holes in the right side muffler.
  15. I just ordered a new Federal tire this weekend. I also purchased a used wheel with a brake rotor on it off ebay for $142 shipped. I'll be sure to leave the tire in the sun to heat it up to make the mounting easier.
  16. They all mount the same on the Touring models. The actual mufflers may be slightly different cosmetically, but they're interchangeable.

  20. No flip up helmet comes in 5XL so I wear an open face helmet. I've read lots of good things about the Vega Summit II helmet. http://www.vegahelmet.com/summit2.html
  21. I normally average around 28mpg. This is a big bike with a lot of frontal area. If you're running over 60, the mileage is going to take a beating. I also have a speedohealer on my bike. When I ride with a group, I can get around 33 and 1 time with the group on the highway with cruise set at 65 with a 40mph tailwind, I was able to squeeze 37mpg out of it.
  22. I would not run an automotive filter on a bike that is still in warranty. If I had an engine still in warranty, I would only run the Yamaha filter and a motorcycle oil, probably that Yamaha branded crap just to keep the service dept happy. I personally run a Purolater PureOne PL14610 from Advance Auto on my bike and Rotella T 15W40 diesel oil. You'll be hard pressed to find a better oil and filter combo. My bike is not in warranty so I don't have to worry about fighting with a service department when the engine decides to go south.
  23. I'd be OK with a pair of lions. Might have to buy some more land and a taller fence though.
  24. On a site dedicated to JAPANESE motorcycles.....
  25. Yesterday was the first time I've stepped on my scale in over a year and it didn't show "ERR" It showed 399.2 Im guessing by the way my work jeans feel, I've lost around 20lbs.
