  1. ok i'll throw the stock box back on tonight and see if it corrects the issue. i remember gaining alot of speed once i put em on but i also patched on of the carb diaphrams when i did it so it might have been counter productive.
  2. I dont have an air filter box... I have 4 chrome 48mm air filters. would this cause the issue?
  3. Ok so my fuse box on my 84 appears to be melting I'm starting to have loose connections in the fuse box causing it to blow fuses and have weak connections for the electrical system. I sometimes have to wiggle the ignition fuse to get the bike to start. any one run into this? if so what did you do to remedy this issue?
  4. i have one slide in the carbs sticks a lil its whats causing my bike to have to rev high to get her movin. didn't think it would be effecting my top speed just sticking a lil when trying to leave a stop. looks like its time to track down a new slide. dont need the rubber diagphram just the plastic tube that it attaches to. anyone got a parts bike they wanna sell one of those slides? lol
  5. its funny i'm having this exact same problem. did your bike sit for any length of time? mine was in pieces for the past 6 years. I just keep running seafoam through it every other tank and my accelleration and top speed seems to steadly get better.
  6. I found this on ebay and i like the look of the lower scoop on the venture can I make this fit my 1984 venture royale? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/air-scoop-under-radiator-1986-Yamaha-Venture_W0QQitemZ270149111726QQihZ017QQcategoryZ35583QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  7. nope i havn't messed with the carbs yet. bike ran and my car broke down so i'm trying to avoid working on something on the bike that might leave me walking the 40 miles to work. I assumed it was just cruddy carbs but wanted to know how far off my bike is from the norm on the forums
  8. ok so the other day I got my new rear tire put on i got the standard black wall tire I want to get a white wall front tire for the bike but my dealer says no company makes a white wall radial that would fit my bike. has anyone run into this?
  9. ok i know my bike still isn't running great yet but i was kinda curious at what RPMs you all are at when your leaving a stop? my bike seems to want to try and stall if i'm under 3500 rpms. just want to know if this is way off from what everyone ellse has to do with there 1st gen
  10. ok my question would be would a cd player inserted virticaly in the dash of a venture even play cd's? i thought they need to be fairly level for the cd to read. only thing stopping me from upgradeing my radio to a dvd player
  11. ok so i'm currently the high bidder on these RK mufflers at an insane low price right now what will i need to do to make them fit my 84 royale? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ROAD-KING-STOCK-MUFFLERS-NEW-TAKE-OFFS-NR_W0QQitemZ220131354857QQihZ012QQcategoryZ35573QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  12. Ok finnaly found a bit of chrome for my bike anyone use these grips on a first gen? any feedback on them i'm thinking about bidding on em. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-XVZ-Buffalo-Grips-7-8-new_W0QQitemZ320134448283QQihZ011QQcategoryZ35580QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  13. yeah I know the bags are different. just frustrated trying to find the dressup items i'm looking for. not many items on ebay and no junkyards in this area in general let alone ones with any ventures in them. its some of the simpler things that I am suprised dont work across models, like the front fender bumper from a RSV is it the size that changes or the mounting for the fender? rear bumper I can understand as I would need one for the 83-84 as any other series would be different bags. Things I would think should still fit: front fender bumpers, front fender chrome lips (front and back) rear fender chrome lips, any mufflers made for the RSV should be made to work, handlebar grips, floorboards (driver and passanger) and %90 of any engine pieces from venture 83-93/ 85-93 yamaha vmax. please correct me if i'm wrong. majority of my frustration comes from the fact that the bike is nearly bone stock as my father is a no frills kind of guy and i'm more of a lets see how much chrome we can fit on it type of guy. just kinda hopped someone might no of any websites that still had some pieces for the bike IE go here for floor boards and here for chrome fender bumpers:detective:
  14. I guess i'll be buying some aluminum and start welding. I got a place near here that can do powdercoating and chroming. on a side note the venture royale is not obsolite. obsolite only applies to technology not automotive. at this point it would be dubed "classic" or "rare" if I can go buy a new front grill for a 67 ford then there should be no reason that there isn't a companie producing new parts for these old scoots. seems to me that a person could make alot of money by producing some new vintage parts for all these bikes. I would never concider a bike that thousands of people still ride not worth selling parts for. so is Ebay still truely my only option for aftermarket parts or are there companies out there. i'm not looking for one company that does it all but maybe one company that makes the front fender bumpers and another that makes some other chrome piece.
  15. ok so i'm looking for some nice shiny chrome for my bike but it being an 84 i'm not sure what things will fit and what wont. for example I was looking through the vendors on the site and found this front fender bumper for the royal star my question on that is how different are the fenders on the royal star and my 84 venture royale? would they fit? http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=59&manufacturer_ID=66&product_ID=24253&model_ID=42 another question is there any website out that still has alot of accessories for the 1gen?
  16. I wonder how much a locksmith might charge to make a key for your bike? that would probly be easier to find
  17. Breakfast lunch or dinner in maine Ok I just rediscoverd this place the other day while riding around portland maine. it looks like an old private school that was converted to a restaurant. its setup Buffet style with a large selection. best bet is to head upstairs and get a chance to dine at the Dinning hall. the room is setup like an old boarding school with long tables and benches in the main hall. The schools history and menu can be found here http://www.dunstanschool.com/directions.html and incase anyone wants to plan a trip here's where it is on the map. might be a good stop for our portland meet and eat. http://www.dunstanschool.com/images/map.gif
  18. I've never dealt with this yet but I read something by an MSF instructor saying the best idea he has had was altering speed suddenly slow down a bit so the dog alters direction for a new intercept course and then goose the throttle. the increas of speed can cause the dog to miss you and the sudden loud pipes might discourage any further attempt against you and your bike. again I've never run into this so I can't speak to how well this plan would work.
  19. ok I've been looking around for a conversion kit. I've determined that my carbs need rebuilding badly and a buddy told me they make an adapter kit for the V-Max to replace the stock carbs with the holly four barrel. its primarily used when supercharging the v-max but i dont want to supercharge my venture just be able to maintain 65 mph on the interstate. has anyone seen a place that sells a holly or eddlebrock kit for the V4? Or does anyone know a good place to find a carb kit for the ventures?
  20. well thats going to make my job 1000 times easier!:cool10: Thanx for all the help and insight guys:banana::banana:
  21. all the info I needed its what i kinda figured. I didn't think the bike should sound like the lawnmower. now the real trick is finding out which on the screws on the carbs controles idle. I realy need to buy a manual for this thing. lol
  22. I'm thinking i might just head down to the dealer and order the slave and a set of gaskets for both sides of the trany. i'm seening a small puddle of oil under the bike now. not sure if its hypralic fluid or oil but figure i just do it right for a change. I do need to get it going down the street to be sure its running ok anyway.
  23. now I can squeeze it almost all the way to the grip. still feels nothing like the clutch on my 86 ninja 1000r so i'm not sure if i've got it right. wont know till i get a chance to take her down the street. heres a good question how can one tell if the clutch plates are worn down to where they need replaceing?
  24. WooHoo!!! it appears that the hit it with a hammer and hope for the best worked!
