I'm glad that the job worked out. Been sitting here thinking about a ride destination for this afternoon. Kennessaw would be in range what do you have going on today. I could return your gauges and bring some carb parts for you to play with . I'll call -
Glad everyone is OK, Hope to see you soon as you get the Honey-dos, done. Maybe St. Judes ride next month. Oh yea thanks for the tip about taking the front wheel off to remove the back wheel. It worked like a champ in Tucumcari, New Mexico.

Parts from 83 xvz1200 still for sale. I had to shut down my used parts offer when I took my recent trip to Sturgis and out west. But, Now I'm back and I'm finished with the Mattcharva's bike rebuild project so now the parts store is back open. There are many, many good parts left and I need to wrap this project up as well . I need to move these babies and clear out the over flow of parts that run from my work area through the sunroom art studio into the house and on to the kitchen table. Most every thing has been disassmbled from the bike down to the engine and frame. Still have all the plastic body parts and most of the systems and electrical components. So, if your still looking for some parts please reply on this post and I will answer with availability and condition of part and price of part plus shipping cost. plus:2cents: Please do not respond by private message. That didn't work to well last time. Going back and forth between the thread and private messages kept me confused and clogged up private messages boxes. So step right up and tell me what you need, remember a lot of the parts are interchangable withe the XVZ1300 and later year model. If in doubt I can verify if it will work on your bike with my multi year Yamaha Parts program. It's all for a good cause, mine and Venturerider.org's. I am doing this for a few bucks but I'm not greedy and willing to share so I'm trying to offer these parts at a very reasonable cost and at the end of the day I'm gonna tally up what I've sold through this site a donate 10% off that amount to Venturerider.org and donate any remaining useable parts to the venture parts stash on the site.

St. Jude/Mean Dog Memorial Ride...........
Dragonslayer replied to DragonRider's topic in Watering Hole
78 from Memphis to Birmingham is a great Ride ( Brand new Interstate. I came back from sturgis that way and it also cross the Natchez Trace parkway and once you get on I-20 east from Birmingham you also go by the Barber Motorsports museum for some possible side trips on the way back If I go I probably plan on hitting these on the way back. -

Radiator fan
Dragonslayer replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Not quite to the red but on a couple of occassions steam started discharging on the ground from the coolant bottle over flow tube. -
The bike starts getting warm and overheating when in traffic or sitting still idleing. When I'm moving the temp quickly goes back to normal temp but will start getting hot again while sitting at a light. I don't think the Radiator fan is coming on what should I check for?

The starter solenoid checked out, everything else checked out. Took the starter off and opened it up and found that it had an internal melt down with bits of what looked like solder chunks stuck in it. The parts bike had a good looking starter so I opened it up cleaned it checked it out and put it back together. I'm pretty confident that that was the problem. I'll know for sure when I put it back together this morning. Thanks for yall's help and input. on to the next problem.

Mattcharva's 83VR project bike is coming together
Dragonslayer replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
Condor, I'm sorry if I mistook your comment and please forgive me if my retort was rude or inappropiate in any way. I apoligize and hope that you will forgive me. It's just that as a writer I can be overly sensitive when someone acts put out to hear a story I want to tell or only wants the hear sound bites or just the punch line. Sound bites don't tell the whole story they only tell bits and pieces of the story. The whole story is: Yes, it was a lot of work but I felt that was what I needed to do for a friend and fellow Venture owner (now rider). You and others on this site have given me so much in knowledge and advice that it was nice to share that info and pass it on by helping someone get thier scout on the road. The friendship and bonding that happened as a result of the experience is worth much more than all the work expended. Getting Matt back on the road made me proud as well as what Matt and I both learned from the experience. Introducing Matt to Ventureriders.org was an added perk and as he becomes involved I know that all will benefit from his participation. He and his wife are super people.. -

Sounds like starter melt down to me. Does it like go nuclear. When I tested it I just ran it for a few seconds to make sure it was running. Thanks for the info
