  1. I didn't know that the headlight, etc. goes through the CMU? The CMU would then need to be capable of sourcing the entire load. Elements wired in parallel create an overall resistance that is less than the least resistive component wired in parallel. If this is a number of ordinary bulbs then the resistance decreases greatly with each added bulb since they are all pretty equal. The load is the inverse of the resistance, as you add elements the load increases with each. When the load is greater than the rated ability to source current or greater than the fuse rating fuses burn, voltage regulators fail, or if your lucky the thermal over-current protection is activated until the load is lessened and the protector cools down. One would expect the CMU? to have thermal shutdown but the only way to know if the damage is permanent is to decrease the load and try it.
  2. Can't even tow a flag behind it? I guess that rules out a trailer. 15 U.S. Code § 2302 - Rules governing contents of warranties © Prohibition on conditions for written or implied warranty; waiver by Commission No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer’s using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived by the Commission if— (1) the warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and (2) the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest. The Commission shall identify in the Federal Register, and permit public comment on, all applications for waiver of the prohibition of this subsection, and shall publish in the Federal Register its disposition of any such application, including the reasons therefor.
  3. I have a slightly shorter CeeBailey that I like pretty well. I don't know how it stands up to frequent wiping since I look over it and don't feel the need to shine it constantly. One other thing, when I changed to a shorter shield I feel a tailwind on me that I've gotten used to. I guess the air drops into the backseat area and swirls forward to push on my back slightly.
  4. I was just wondering if you can leave something like this a little moist when you're spraying it with the new water based automotive enamels? That's the challenge for me, you neutralize or remove the etching solution with water based chemicals but then while you're getting it all dry it begins to rust again.
  5. I am a little fuzzy about it right now but I figured this one out a few weeks ago. As you depress the horn button you bring the spring to complete the connection between the copper piece and the isolated contact. Don't forget the little spring loaded ball when you reassemble the switch. Also, I just took a look at a post from Dingy that I hadn't been aware the horn switch supplies ground to the horn as the horns already have +12v when the ignition is on. Take a look and see if this doesn't make sense to you.
  6. I like this one way better though: JBL PRV175 It has Bluetooth and would fit the area where the cassette player is on a gen 1. http://www.rocktheboatmarinestereo.com/photos/76509b.jpg
  7. I see one of those teeny Sonetts at car shows occasionally. In today's world of huge pig-up trucks and SOWs (like an SUV but porkier), I would be afraid to drive one since it severely lacks height as well as the other dimensions.
  8. That business coupe looks like it "could" be a mid-engine. The hind quarters look significantly longer than the front. I had a 1965 Plymouth "Fury" with 383 Magnum - Game Warden car. Looked like the one below. http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/1965-1966-plymouth-sport-fury-vip-3.jpg I also had a 1968 Saab 96 Wagon with a V4 a silly 200 cubic centimeters bigger than a Gen 1.2 and four on the column. The tranny could run faster than the engine "free-wheeling". It looked like the one below. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MiZ-UqDwf6c/S_nx357bVkI/AAAAAAAAE7A/jPMT0e9_GZg/s1600/1968+Saab+95+V4+2+Door+Station+Wagon+4.jpg http://213.28.103.197/www-saab95-net/rr/paakuvaRR.jpg
  9. So how'd ya work them clear engine covers on Tweety? How much'r ya selling the kit for to do it on mine? How much for the 2nd gen chromy upgrade kit for the 1st gen?
  10. A friend of mine back in the day had a Cushman that looked kind of like a little Harley with a go-kart engine on it. Two speed, he would start up normally and then shift at around 20mph and he was gone. It always made me feel bad that he was able to do that to me no matter what I was riding. Never took it to the highway with him and I realize that I was letting him get the jump on me every time but the snap into high gear seemed amazing.
  11. My one that got away was that I could have bought an XK140 in 1979 for a mechanics lien of $900. I was in college and money was tight and Jags weren't known for reliability so I passed on it..... My GF's old boyfriend from high school had a POS 1961 Corvette that didn't run well and was unreliable. She helped his parents talk him into trading for a fake woodie K-car wagon that they largely paid for...... If I could have had some of the cars my father had.
  12. I was thinking of the "knee vents". I thought I had seen some that were more streamlined like Dingy's, but I realize that his is heavily customized. It's good to know that any year will do. I may try finding a set that I can experiment with in thinning down the bottom section. They kind of don't protrude enough to protect really well but enough to be uncomfortable when pressed against.
  13. Yes, thank you. That is exactly what I was looking for.
  14. I took the turn signal stuff out to get at my horn button and clean it. Now the turn signals are difficult to engage and to manually cancel. What sort of lubricant should be used in there and where exactly? How does the shape of those two rounded side contacts affect cancelling turn signals?
  15. The plastics on the front below the cowling on my 1993 spread out pretty wide making it a little uncomfortable to get my feet on the forward pegs. My calf sort of rubs on the edge of those side covers and I have to spread my legs out wide to get around those covers. I notice that not all of the covers are built the same and I would like to start looking for some that are a little more streamlined. Which ones might fit on a 1993? Any advice on re-working the ones I have?
  16. I like ya Puc but when I see your bike with that extra platform on the back and that roll of extra stuff you're carrying back there and the general overloaded conditions of it I can't help thinking of the pictures of asian people trying to carry way too much stuff on their little mopeds and such. http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&docid=Xdb1Beblov_tyM&tbnid=otBCuxIKMFTDNM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fnews.motorbiker.org%2Fblogs.nsf%2Fdx%2Feverything-but-the-kitchen-sink-but-a-dog.htm&ei=s59YU729H42oyAT89oLgBQ&bvm=bv.65397613,d.aWw&psig=AFQjCNEHiDoW6ME7Ud1Rlekn9GYrewLshA&ust=1398403352162907http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcdn.9laughs.com%2Ffiles%2F2012%2F01%2FMotorcycle-Trash-Hauling1.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.goshocking.com%2F2012_03_01_archive.html&h=449&w=600&tbnid=w4WNQpNHNx3rnM%3A&zoom=1&docid=WupV9uv6LMzJKM&ei=6p9YU7fBNIOPyATv54G4Dw&tbm=isch&client=firefox-a&ved=0CF4QMygKMAo&iact=rc&uact=3&dur=5069&page=1&start=0&ndsp=24http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2Lk6P4MKxNM/UgvbT-Z3oyI/AAAAAAAAAf0/hPqEfFtI7xo/s1600/20130725160137-1.jpghttp://i.ytimg.com/vi/sUaQptm_ucg/0.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/motorbiker/newspics4/Motorcycle-Carrying-Cargo-51.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vK4D6l-FI7M/UFy_WwaNIRI/AAAAAAAADZw/KqCK-mtoFw0/s1600/overloaded-motorcycle1.jpg I wouldn't want you to park next to me for fear that a bunch of that stuff would fall over onto my bike and give it an overloaded appearance too. Your front wheel must just kind of float over the road with all that counter-weight behind the rear wheel.
  17. Mine acted like that but finding a pushed in pin on the blue connectors under the radio somewhat solved that problem. Maybe look for a bad connection there?
  18. Yes, believe it or not the Sierra Club has figured out a way to save Americas forests and wildlife by having trees cut down and turned into paper, printing maps of the US on that paper and sending them to me. I have several, about two feet by three feet for your wall. Send me your address and I'll send you a map.
  19. Hey, that's quite a find! Thanks for putting those links up.
  20. In your photo it also looks like there are a bank of switches installed above everything else. You'll really need to mess around with the switches or trace the wires to discover just how those are supposed to work.
  21. It looks too nice to be a parts bike, as you called it. Get it running good and ride it!
  22. Yeah, I guess maybe just the wiring document I attached near the end pertains in your case. If you have the Original CB and it works I had decided that I was ahead of the game to use it since their is circuitry to silence the radio when the CB is receiving, that and it was all wired into the intercom equipment too. Take a look at this unit for BT, it has some controls to make a call and skip tracks, etc. I'm not sure about using it with a phone while riding, that requires a helmet microphone that can interface with the intercom. If you make that all work be sure to document it on the site so the rest of us can benefit. The SoundLogic has a small pod with a 3.5mm socket and microUSB for charging that disconnects from the speaker so it could be built in easily. It's smaller than Dingy's unit but more expensive and currently unavailable. You can probably find a small CB with BT and AM/FM but I haven't looked for one. Good Luck!
  23. There's good, helpful, pertinent info in this thread, even though your cassette drive has already been removed. Cassette Drive Mods Dingy's solution isn't bad too. You can get a cover for it by searching Google for "marine radio cover". You can get replacement speakers by searching Google for "4 inch marine speakers", or just buy [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P0R6GQ/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2R3C9EKLQ57PZ]Amazon.com: Polk Audio DB401 4-Inch Pair Coaxial Speakers - Silver: Car Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Cgy6jdaAL.@@AMEPARAM@@41Cgy6jdaAL[/ame] . Good Luck!
  24. I can't believe they let Apple fanboys on the site! I was horsing around, that happens sometimes, here and other places. The paid Apple tech support is on another website. Guess which parts I was serious about?
