I had an 83 VT500C, you could think 'C' for "chopper" since it was laid out like a mini cruiser and a little more chromed up. I got the sissy bar and engine side covers chromed to complete the look but I also got the 18" rear wheel from the sister bike the VT500E "Ascot" and used it like a dual sport. I got rid of the pull back bars and replaced them with straighter enduro type bars with Brevetatta grips. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg287/DogTi/grip.jpg As for the 84 VR, I will probably catch hell for this but my survey of the info tells me that in all honesty there are a list of possible problems with those years. Don't pay over $2000 unless it has had those problems fixed and you can see evidence. Check to make sure the front and rear suspension will hold air and not leak oil. It should idle at 900 at the stops once warmed up. One of the biggest problems, read expensive, was with second gear shelling under hard acceleration, if this has not been fixed I would not take the risk unless you never will ride it hard even in the mountains. Consider looking at a Gen 1.2 VR after '86 or even better after '90. They got the bugs sorted by then.

Aftermarket gauge replacements
syscrusher replied to maknak's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
A Trail Tech Vapor can replace your Tach and Speedo nicely. It adds a temp gauge as well. http://www.trailtech.net/digital-gauges/vapor About $100 street price. The one for DR650 would be compatible with first gen. A $50 dashboard kit adds 4 idiot lights and better mounting for the Vapor. http://www.trailtech.net/indicator-light-dashboard- 5 replies

God no! Say it isn't so! It's not long now before the politicians will require us all to wear them.
-
We're all lucky, Darksiders and the rest. We're all riding motorcycles and that is accepted to be unsafe. Those of us who are not dead are very lucky indeed.

"3 1/2" I like that.

So how long do I have to overtake the other car? As I kind of illustrated, in this situation, I would be continually overtaking and passing other vehicles. I just won't let you cause me to slow down and be boxed in because you don't pass me quickly. Conversely, if I am passing you and we are approaching another car ahead then I finish passing very quickly so that you have room to pass them without slowing. Illinois got some crazy laws on the books if you ask me.
-
Just a couple of questions, what would be the offense to write a ticket for? You see one of my pet peeves is people who seem to think they can take all day to pass you and then you end up having to hit the brakes for the car ahead. If I am tending to pass most of the cars I tend to stay left. If you then want to pass me, do so with conviction, the onus is on you. If you're passing me you are speeding excessively, who gets the ticket - you. I also have only heard of less than a handful of battery replacements of NiMH batteries. As I understand things the lithium batteries will require replacement after a time even if they are never used. Consider the chemistry of the batteries in a hybrid you are researching.

Yeah the 55% sidewall number makes for a pretty wide tire. Forgot about the shaft. Maybe something that the Valkyrie darksiders run?

I have a car tire on my Vulcan 2000, a General Altimax HP that performs really well in the wet and lasts long. It had been awhile since running a MC tire on a larger bike when I bought the VR but I was impressed with the handling on the VR. A lot of VN2K owners have criticized it's handling capabilities anyway so I don't really know what I'm trying to say here. When I first put the CT on the VN2K I was aware of differences, it seemed to corner with no sign of sliding but it had to be wrestled through slow turns, etc. It's an apples and oranges comparison but I like the way the VR handles and it has an MC tire. I see a Altimax HP on Tirerack.com with: Size Service Description Load Range UTQG Max Load Max. Inflation Press. Tread Depth Tire Weight Rim Width Range Meas. Rim Width Sect. Width Tread Width Overall Diam. Revs Per Mile 195/55R16 87H SL 440 A A 1201 lbs. 51 psi 10/32" 18 lbs. 5.5-7" 6" 7.9" 24.4" 851 Is that too big?

Here's a few more photos for your enjoyment. BTW, I realize now that the 4PDT switch is a waste but I'm using it anyway because it has the rubber boot and I may use some other optioning on it. I am not sure that the 12v to the cassette is going to have the load capability for my USB charging port so I'll probably wire that into the bike and use unplugging the USB cable itself to enable the removal of the radio section from the rest of the bike. The draw back will be that I will have to power up the BT manually when I start the bike rather than have it start with the key. Later I may rethink this, I'd really like it to work more automagically.

Very Nice! I wonder what that tank and seat are worth now. Your easy guess looks to me like a 1982 Suzuki GS550 but I can't find one of those with seven spoke wheels. http://www.suzukicycles.org/photos/GS/GS550L/1982_GS550L_blk_450.jpg

I used to own one. The tank, seat, frame, forks, and engine are from what year and model?

What's this?

1928 Georges Roy 500cc I got lucky searching.

My source said it was the newly released Black Lightning of 1948. I don't know how he managed the discomfort.

Bonus if you can name the rider:

The Prius will get much better gas mileage in town than ANY other car, like 50mpg, I said IN TOWN. I drive a hybrid, not a Prius, and I can zoom around if I choose or I can try to maximize my mileage. Like with any car zooming around all of the time wastes gas and gets you there a fraction of a second quicker, in town. It may make you feel like you're winning the race but it's really a pretty insignificant lead without reckless driving, not to mention the extra wear imparted by torque vs inertia. I try to keep my RPMs down to 2000 or so when I'm burning gas and I can only go about 45 on batteries but I have to use gas to get started from a light or the start is just too slow. If I never run it on batteries then I am wasting a feature of my vehicle and wasting gas though. I don't get any better mileage on the highway than anyone else so I'll drive the speed limit or a little over if it seems to be working out. Maybe your local Prius drivers are a little more law abiding? Maybe you need to work with local authorities to get the speed limits increased? Use the other freaking lane, I don't get intimidated by tailgaiters, I slow up a little more. If you have the pinkslip of my vehicle you can drive it, otherwise not. If you pay for my fuel I'll burn it as quickly as you want me to, within reason, otherwise I will burn it as quickly as I see fit. This then is how things work.

Surely an engine like that could be adapted into a ride-able motorcycle.

Well, you have the Mfg. and the decade right. This is the one that I saw at the Barber Museum in Birmingham, AL. Do you know the year and model?

Are you working up a guess?
