  1. Good idea to throw the allen key to remove the battery in a saddlebag or trunk. Seems like this always happens to my Zumo when I'm half way through a trip and miles from home.
  2. Has anyone found a keyless gas cap that will work on a RSV?
  3. What I'e been doing is when I find something I want online beit at ShowChrome, Motovan, Kimpex, J&P Cycles, Dennis Kirk, etc I print out the page and take it to my local Yamaha dealer. I don't care where they get it from as long as I get what I want. I might pay a little more (usually not much more tho) but it saves the aggrevation of trying to find it myself in Canada. It also helps the local shop which I would hate to lose!
  4. Just checked mine...sure enough both were loose. Thanks for the heads up:thumbsup:
  5. I'd like to chime in here with a big thank-you to Pete and Hazel for their wonderful hospitality and also thanks to Brian for throwing this together. Nice to meet some fellow VentureRiders and to put some faces to screen names. I had a great time and I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at future events. Mike
  6. Got a large rock right on the chrome strip below the windshield of my rsv today. Big dent and deep scratch. I will have to replace it. Dealer closed till Tuesday. Just curious what these things cost. Anyone know?
  7. So what does that say about someone who is all thumbs:thumbsup:
  8. Hey Larry, Where did you get your tank bib? Sorry 1sttenor didn't mean to hijack your thread Mike
  9. Making the gauge pod really isn't that hard. All you need is a fiberglass kit from your local hardware/automotive store, some Bondo, some abs pipe and a tennis ball. And lots of sandpaper!!! The time consuming part is the re-wiring of the ignition switch, adding the relays and installing the temp sender in the coolant plug. If someone is able to do those tasks then making the pod should be no problem. If anyone would like to make their own pod I will certainly help anyway I can. I just wouldn't feel right making the gauge pod for someone without being there to help install it, wire it and test it.
  10. Thanks Guys. I don't think I will be mass producing these. It took a lot longer than I had thought it would. I originally wanted both gauges AND the tach on the switch cover but they just wouldn't fit. This way I have about 1/2" clearance on both sides when the bars are at full lock. Any other configuration would cover the cruise button or the bars would hit the gauges. All-in-all I'm happy with the results.
  11. Just installed a volt meter, water temp gauge and tach so I thought I would post a few pics. I still have some clean-up of the install to do and finish putting the bike together. I removed the ignition switch and replaced it with a much smaller one in the seat pan facing backwards just over the rear shock schrader valve. I made the gauge pod with fiberglass and bondo. Painted it with bed liner. The temp sending unit and tach signal come from cylinder four. I removed the coolant plug and drilled and tapped it to fit the 1/8th" sending unit. The tach signal comes from the negative side of cylinder 4 coil. Power to the gauges comes from the positive side of the coil. Made for a nice neat cable run. The gauge lights are run off a switch on the front brake reservoir along with the driving lights. I removed the front right speaker to install the tach. I don't use the speakers so it won't be missed.
  12. Help...I made a boo boo :!: I tried using one of those bug sponges (the ones with the scotch brite-like stuff on one side) to remove the bug guts and tar from my lower fairings. I had the lowers off and submersed in a pail of soapy water and I was scrubbing them with the bug sponge. When I pulled them out they looked great...no bug guts or tar...OR CLEAR COAT :!: :!: :!: . When I dried them off I could see a lot of dull scuffs and scratches. How do I repair this :?: I am not too familiar with automotive paints and finishes. (No kidding eh)
  13. Anyone planning on attending the World Superbike and AMA Superbike races in Tooele Utah this May 29-31?
  14. I removed the ignition switch and tossed it. I replaced it with a (hidden) toggle switch and a couple of relays. This makes 5 relays I've added in the fairing. Low beam, high beam, driving lights, and 2 for ignition. I'm not going to get stuck at a gas station 100 miles from home because of a faulty switch. I am going to add a water temp gauge and a volt meter gauge on the switch cover where the switch was.
  15. Jeez, I hope if my rear shock goes they don't ask my wife and I to hop on the scales to see if we're over the posted weight limit
  16. Two weeks into a new job at a papermill I dropped a nut while doing maintenance on the top of the former section on the paper machine during a shutdown. It took 20 electricians, 10 instrument guys, and about 10 others over an hour to find it. Boy, was I popular for a while.
  17. If any of you have lost weight...I think I've found it . Time for Atkins for me too
  18. I just bought a new Matrix Rover trailer and I am looking at mounting a cooler (and possibly some spare gas) on the tow bar. Has anyone put one of these thermoelectric coolers on their trailer. I see a lot of trailers with coolers on the tow bar and I was wondering if one of these would be worth looking into. http://www.colemancanada.ca/Catalog/COOLERS.THERMOELECTRIC.en.products I know I would have to make some sort of rain protector for it. What have others done it?

    Venture Video

Nice video Brian. Your bikes speakers sound better than mine;).
  20. These them? http://www.bakerbuilt.com/yamaha.htm
  21. So this is what the Yamaha engineers have been doing when they could have been working on a new Venture.
  22. I wonder if that is how stoppies started
  23. I usually wash the bike with the a wash mitt and Mr. Clean Car Wash thingy with the demineralized rinse. This works well and I don't have to dry the bike off when I'm done. The other day I picked up a bottle of Bug-B-Gone when I was buying some Seafoam to get ready for winter. Well we had a decently warm day last week so I figured I would run up the the local car wash and give the bike a wash before I put her up. I grabbed the Bug-B-Gone and gave her a spray then washed her with the high pressure wand. All I can say is WOW. I haven't seen the bike that clean since she was on the showroom floor!
  24. Also, make sure your choke is completely off. My Venture backfired quite regularly until we discovered my choke linkage was bent which wouldn't allow the choke to come all the way off.
