  1. I have a question to ask our members and guest. My 08 RSV has been in the shop now for 3 weeks with a radio problem (will not work, cuts in and out). The dealer has changed out the left rear speaker, entire radio unit, handlebar control head, wiring sub-harness and CB mich button and still cannot find the problem. I thought they were going to change out the entire harness earlier but they didn't, but now have decided to do so. Now, I've been without my bike now for 3 weeks and it looks like I may be without it for another 2 weeks at least. I'm getting tired of waiting on it. The people I work with have told me to demand a loaner bike or yet, give me another one. I'm a fairly patient person and have dealt with this dealer before and like them. But my question to you fellow members who have dealt with bike dealers before is: How long should I wait before I start squawking and raising cane about getting my bike back? I got about a months riding out of it before the radio and CB broke. My bike was my primary transportation to and from work. Needless to say I'm getting a little frustrated and so is the shop trying to fix it. They also have another 08 RSV in the shop with the same problem. When they figure out what's wrong with mine, they can fix the other one too. Any advice from you all will be appreciated. Thanks, Glenn
  2. last month my 84 Venture sat for about 2 weeks. Apparently she was lonely and to show me she started dripping oil @ the seal of the right shock. Just a small leak so I kept riding. Well she didn't like having to sit again for another 2 weeks, so this time she dumps a puddle of oil about 6" inches wide from the front wheel to the rear. How is it that it can leak "up" while just sitting in the garage? Thanks in advance
  3. I got my HF trailer repainted and assembled and the box mounted on top. It works great and follows unloaded along at 80 mph. I am now looking at adding other conveniences like a bicycle kickstand and a cooler on the tongue. My wife and I plan to take a trip west across the state in two weeks to see our son run in cross country in two weeks. Questions: I bought a kickstand from Walmart but it doesn't seem to have the right angle for mounting on the tongue. Anybody have pictures of how they mounted a bicycle kickstand on their HF trailer? What is the easiest way to mount a cooler on the tongue and what cooler is recommended? I know that it must have a positive latch (don't want my ham sandwiches flying down the interstate). Any other recommendations? Iowa Guy

What mic would fit the Venture S 2008? I need to buy a mic for a Venture I am planning to buy in a few weeks and it dosent have a mic. Cheers
  5. 2nd last person to get home from Ashville. Mother wil be the last one home tomorrow. Man, what a blast we had for the last 2 weeks! More to follow...
  6. Is anybody going to the Aerostich VBR rally in Duluth MN in 2 weeks?
  7. I made it back safe. It was nice to meet a few people and it was a nice but hot ride over and back. It had to be quick, for both myself and my friend John. John's wife is in a nursing home and he travels quite a bit. He wanted to get back in time to spend some time with her before he leaves for a couple of weeks on Tuesday. I have Grandkids over this afternoon and tonight and my wife wanted me to be here to help. Looking fwd to the next one. Oh by the way the food was great.
  8. Well its been 2 weeks since my hip replacement and I want to thank all of you that wished me well. ( Thanks !!!! you guys are great ) They took out the staples today and are letting me hobble around with a cane. It is really hard not to head up to the shop and get working again. Sitting around has never been my thing. The hip has healed great and I how have no pain in it at all. The bad thing is I will have to have the right knee replaced in Oct. ( Its a B..... getting old and falling apart ). I'm hoping I get the go back to work word from the Doc. on the 14th of Aug. I can handle a couple more weeks but just resting up and not being able to ride is the pitts. I hope everyone is having a great time out there on the open roads and keeping it safe. Have Fun and keep it between the ditches. Steve
  9. You want it when? What do you mean were leaving in two weeks? You broke what?..................................... What color did she buy? Stay tuned.
  10. OK finally got the t-shirt design. This isn't exactly how it's gonna look they'll fix up the pics we used and get rid of the outside stuff. We used the SS bike on the front and we put Squids new bike on the back. Since he did all the work on the SS bike we thought it only appropriate. Cost will be $20 per shirt at this point. Need sizes from those who want a T-shirt by the 19th. They said two weeks to deliver but last time we ordered it was more like a 8 days. Might be longer with more shirts, but no longer then 2 wks. Here's the link to what the shirts will look like. Remember the background on the pictures should go away. http://www.customink.com/designs/asheville2/8700943-1288878?cm_ven=hotlink&cm_cat=2&cm_pla=Body_txt&cm_ite=design No pockets on this one and only the one color. 11. I just got out of the Grand hospital (which isn't really all that grand) - my appendix burst Monday night. Kind of put the kibosh on the rest of the rally for us. Naturally I failed to get any phone numbers on the first morning. No heavy lifting for six weeks. Six weeks. Gaaa. So, I'm not going to be able to ride home. We are setting up to have our daughter come up in the pickup. Of course we have no ball/wiring/trailer, but hey, one thing at a time. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Man I am so bummed. Had a dumb thing happen in my eye, went to the dr and here I have a torn retina. Repared it with laser blasts (55 of them1) but no lifting bending straining for 6 weeks! I asked about riding. He got right testy about it - bottom line, no riding for 6 weeks. Man. I guess this is better than having complications, but I am still bummed. This means I will have time to have that new Bushtec trailer that I am winning from the Kitchener rally color matched to the bike and all before I go pick it up. Reiney - hope you kept my contact information so you can let me know. Give me a PM if you need reminding about my ticket numbers and my telephone number.
  13. Greetings all, Just a quick post to let you know I won't be annoying anybody for a while after tomorrow. Bright and early Thursday morning Wendy and I are heading off on a 5 weeks camping holiday through Central Australia. No bike - taking the Subaru Outback. In that time we will cover the entire continent from south to north (Adelaide to Darwin) then back again through inland Queensland. Check your atlas! Not taking any wireless broadband, so won't be on-line for those 5 weeks. Will however (when time and opportunity permit) check in to internet cafes and let you know how we're travelling. Plan on taking 4 cameras with me so I'll have thousands of images to play with whilst away, and hopefully sell a few when I get back to help finance the holiday. Y'all be careful out there you hear. I'll miss the 5,000th member joining, but whoever it may be - Welcome. Cheers from the Great Southern Land. Spear
  14. Started my 2004 RSV this morning after about 6 weeks of inactivity. It's the middle of winter here and I've been away for 5 weeks, touring the warmer climes of this great country in my tin top. Pulled the choke fully out, gave the throttle a twist, let it rest, hit the starter and the engine popped in to life after about 8 cranks. Let her idle a little to warm up, then when I tried to ease the choke off it wouldn't go. Moves about 1/4" at the most, but does not throw back to fully off. I've poked, pulled and pushed from both sides without over-doing it for fear of bending or breaking something. I GOTTA RIDE! Anybody have any clues? :puzzled: Thanks guys.
  15. Dale goes in for his surgery this morning.....just wondering if anyone else here has had the surgery and knows what to expect? I guess they are gonna cut him in 3 areas and then fix the rotator cuff. Doc says it will be about 6 weeks before he can even lift 1 lb with that arm! Being a workmans comp claim they are sending him back to work Monday on restriction which means he will probably get sent home each day, but he has to show up:think: Seems way to soon to me. Plus they dont cover his wages for the first 3 days......anyone familiar with all this and how it works? Me thinks its gonna be a rough cpl weeks at first from what I have heard. Wonder how long it will be before he can handle the bike, im sure there wont be much if any riding this summer:crying:
  16. i won't go into the details, about how i embarrassed the Dr.s, but finally, something is being done! today, we got a formula, for a "chemical cocktail" from M.D. Anderson. jeannie got her first "dose", through her i v tube this evening! she will get the same thing, for two more days, then wait three weeks, and do it all over again!i know in my heart, that the prayers that all of you guys offered, has caused this to turn into a "treatment", instead of a "go home and wait for hospice time, ". for that , i will be eternally grateful! just jt
  17. :confused24:I do not think I have this posting figured out yet. Computer illiterate I am told. Just bought a 05 RSV been riding it about two weeks seemed a little sluggish compared to 04 Silverado.Getting ready to go to Colorado on the 13th. Well lets get to the point. started bike yesterday and has no power front left bank is flooding and has no power Carried to shop in Abilene 5 weeks waiting list. They told me to drain carbs and tap on bowls.I have done this and changed spark plugs. Is running a little better still sluggish at slow speeds and flooding clears in higher gears until you slow down again.Setting on kickstand idels rough stand up straight idel gets better. Acts like cylinder loading up with fuel at low speed and clears as speed increases. Any help appreciated hate to ride Silvarado To Colorado next week. Thanks Bikerkwatt (B.A.C.A.Rolling Plains)

  19. I've had a few folks email me about the center stands that I used to make. As I have replied, I no longer offer the stands. I was talking to Allen at Diamond R Accessories the other day though and he tells me this: "I have received about 8-10 of our center stands from the machine shop if you hear of anyone wanting one. These are ones that they had enough parts left after we quit carrying them to make complete stand. However, I will be out of pocket for about 6 weeks, I am having another knee replacement in the morning. After I get back up and around to where I can I will start putting them together." So contact Allen if you are interested.
  20. As some of you will recall, my dad had back surgery (at 89 yrs) last month and the anesthesia that they gave him made him a little crazy. He was having hallucinations and paranoia, thought he was somewhere else, thought the wall was the floor ("Why do they have the TV and those pictures on the floor?"), etc. One night, as he was having dinner, the nurse brought his meds in and he said "Isn't this the greatest restaurant? Not only do they have great food, they even bring you your pills!" It was scary, but in some ways it was also rather comical. Any way, after a few weeks he was released to a rehab hospital. Another week or so there. He kept asking to be taken home because he felt like a prisoner. Slowly the "sundown syndrome" went away and he realized what was what. He said it was great because it used to be that he had to stop walking and rest because his back hurt so much, now it's just his legs that start to hurt, because he has barely used them the last 4 or 5 weeks. Finally, Wednesday he was released and went home. That night he started wheezing and having a hard time breathing. He said it was like his broncitus coming back. He decided to sleep sitting in his recliner. The next morning he said that he couldn't breath so 911 was called, he was rushed to the hospital (the third so far) and into the ER. He told the doctor that he felt like he was dieing. After tests and ex-rays, the doctor said "You were. Your lungs were filling with water and if you hadn't come in you would have literally drowned." It seems that the other hospitals had each given him meds (some of the same one from each with different names, so he was getting double what he should!) and his body was filling his lungs with water because of them. He was given diaretics, and his body started flushing out the H2O. He spent the next two nights there. He came back home today and is feeling much better. But he was feeling better before. It's scary how badly hospitals can screw up. If my father wasn't so strong and so much of a fighter, he would probably be dead now. I am guardedly optimistic, hoping there isn't something else waiting in the wings to bite us, and hoping that the hospitals haven't screwed anything else up. He wanted me to thank all those that had prayed for him, and especially the VR.o members that signed the get well card for him at the last N Ga Breakfast. Blackjack brought a card and all signed it. I was touched by that as well. Thanks guys! Sorry this is a little long but thanks for listening. Thanks for caring. Thanks for praying. Thanks for being there...Family. T Oh yeah, do me a favor and don't stop praying just yet!!!
  21. I'm talking to you folks who have to put your scoot up for the winter. I am just getting over a really bad bout of gout and just today rode my RSV for the first time in 3 weeks, gosh it felt so good to be back on her. I was going NUTZ without riding and that was just 3 weeks. I can't imagine what an entire winter would be like. Actually I lied, I did get a test ride in on Saturday albeit a short one to test my ankle. I live on the East coast of NC and our winters are moderate enough. There have been some cold days and I have ridden 50 to work in 17 degree temps, but for the most part the days haven't been too terrible this past winter. You folks must be going stir crazy. My heart goes out to you.
  22. It's been a long cold winter here in Chicagoland and I was quite ready to ride a couple of weeks ago when the weather shot up to the 60s. Alas, I hadn't been as vigilant as I should have been and the 5 year old battery was kaput. "Well" I said, "I'll just go buy me a new one." Doh! Bought the battery, filled the fluid, put the batter on charge for the recommended 20 hours at 1.5 amps. Battery charged, replaced, bolts tightened, and... nothing. No response at all. Well that just tears it. This weekend I'm takin' it to the dealer and letting him play with it. I'm no mechanic and even if I was I just don't have the time or patience to deal with this sort of thing. No doubt it's something trivial, but it would take me two weeks to figure it out and another 2 weeks fixing the holes in the garage walls where the wrenches flew. The moral of the story: keep the *%#$@@ battery on a charger over the winter if you're too *#$@@ lazy to go out once a week and start the poor beast. I hate winter in Illinois... and Indiana... and Michigan... and Wisconsin... and....
  23. well............weather finally came around for a few days, but we have MAJOR renovations going on in the yard, and the 05 is buried in the shed. Main project this year was to get the outside of the house painted, but first, the carpenter had to change any rotten trim we could find. Then we decided to remove a door that we never use and replace it with a window...still no biggie. Then, a few weeks ago, I went out beck to find one of the retaining walls around my pool had let go so in came the mason, he recommended removing ALL of the retaining walls (cement and brick) and putting in new ones. So since we were doing this, we decided to connect the patio to the pool deck so it was one straight walk (jobs getting bigger huh?).....since we're doing all the work, decided to change all the lines to and from the filter so we wont have to worry about leaks. Then it was decided to change the liner etc etc. SO.........looks like I won't be riding for a few weeks. Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh
