  1. Hey folks!! I'm new here and hope this hasn't been asked before. I have a '98 Royal Star Tour Classic II with the large leather slope bags. They are beginning to get pretty weather worn and I was wondering if anyone on here has found a good replacement for these or not. I've been watching ebay for months and none have shown up. Any ideas?? Thanks...........Ron
  2. Finally got the prototype detachable tour pak bracket back from the water jet shop (thought it was going to be laser cut). i'm attaching some pics. keep in mind that this material is only .060 thick and the final product will be .125 (i.e. 1/8"). there are several changes to be made, one is more radiusing on several areas, another is removing some additional material from the sides, and possibly utilizing gussets if necessary. you will notice that the front of the bracket uses the stock front mount for the stock backrest, you will also notice the back of the bracket uses additional docking hardware with locking mechanisms. the tour pak in the pic is one i purchased for approx. $110.00 (plus shipping), it is ABS plastic and actually has lines on the top of pak which mimics the gas tank lines. we will be repainting the tour pak (getting rid of that silly yellow dot on the top of tour pak) and will also be painting the bracket to match the bike. feedback would be appreciated, thanks. and keep Freebird in your prayers and pay your subscription today (additional donation would be awesome)!! http://i44.tinypic.com/x391dg.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/fn5j43.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/359flnm.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/2iqho42.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/aamg.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/zss36x.jpg
  3. I have recently purchaced a 1996 Tour Classic. How is this bike different than a Tour Deluxe??? Figured I should know.
  4. I posted this yesterday on the RSTD section and thought i would share it here as well. I have been searching for a detachable tour pak for my 07 RSMTD for 6 months - i've seen several attempts here on VR - but none that i really liked. A friend & I spent about 8 hrs. in the shop today laying out the template for a detachable tour pak. we finished the template (poster board) for a detachable mount and our next step is to fab it out of light sheet metal to confirm fit. next we will take the template to our local laser cutter to have the real detachable mount cut (.0125 steel). We have a friend in Fla. making & shipping the 'U' 1" round tube which mounts to the bottom of the tour pak and to the top of our detachable mount - most likely will not use the 'U' tube, rather just mount the tour pak directly to my mount, with a thin rubber mat sandwiched between the two for vibration dampening. picked up some docking hardware and ordered keyed locking mechanisms (to lock tour pak to mount). i believe my detachable mount should be usable for the tour pak of your choice. This is going to be a real sweet setup when done. Once this project is complete i intend to post pics of the procedure to install hardware and pics of the finished product. If there are any interested RSTD'er who might have an interest in the product, let me know ( i know this is a little premature considering i have no finished pics to post yet ). i am hoping to have this project done over the course of several weeks - this will be a first class mounting kit with or without the actual tour pak - i'll keep everyone posted. I expect that some might ask if this detachable system will work on RSV and honestly i don't know anything about the RSV, perhaps others who have much more knowledge of the similarities and differences between the bike could shed some light. here are a few pic of the prototype mocked up from poster board. http://i44.tinypic.com/imhrol.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/12517h5.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/34edenc.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/1q60e8.jpg
  5. You won't find a more adventurous and scenic ride then the Lake Superior Circle Tour. I did it in 2007 with a group of 5 other bikers (affectionately known as the Mild Hogs) and had a blast. This 1800 mile ride will take you all the way around the world largest fresh-water lake following the picturesque shoreline through Minnesota, Ontario, Michigan, and Wisconsin. We took seven days to truly enjoy the scenery but if you pushed it a bit you could shorten the ride. There's even a website dedicated to this ride. Once you complete the ride you can order a Circle Tour pin for your leather. http://www.great-lakes.net/tourism/circletour/superior/ Here's a link to the photos from our Circle Tour ride on the Mild Hogs website: http://www.ib4e.org/mildhogs2007.html My favorite Circle Tour stops: Split Rock Lighthouse Grand Marais (Oly & Svens for pizza) Sleeping Giant Provincial Park (spend a whole day visiting this beautiful park east of Thunder Bay) White River, ON (birthplace of Winnie-the-Pooh, you can laugh but you'll stop for a photo) Wawa, ON (cute little Canadian town) Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum (visit the Edmund Fitzgerald display) As a sidenote, I rode all five great lakes in 2008 from SE Minnesota to Niagra Falls and back and found the Circle Tour ride much prettier.
  6. I was just wondering the difference between the royal star tour classic wich I have and the royal star tour delux:240:
  7. Can one of you gurus here verify? I am almost certain the crash guards are the same on the tour deluxe as the venture. Can anyone verify that?

    RV ?

Beer24/7 and I have looking at RV's for the past year or so. Studying them to make sure when we do take the big plunge . As it looks for now , we are leaning towards the Winnebago Tour or Journey . The Tour is top of the list for now as being a diesel-pusher and the Maxium chasis . But as we are still studying them until we comment as we only want to buy the right one the first time . I have a question as to the Winnebago and Itasco . To me it's like GM and GMC , does anyone know what the main difference in the two ? Is it the quality of the construction , appliances , material used ? Only thing I see so far is the decal name . 9. Last week I went to put on my winter jacket and found that I had expanded my wastline and could not zipup my jacket. So I wanted a new Tour Master trans.2. ;As I called around nobody had one. I called competition accessories and they were out too. But the sales said he had other jackets and the price was negotiable. Well he offered me a Fieldsheer Quattro in high Vis yellow for the same price as the Tour master, $152. I think I got a good deal. Also bought Calela's gore-tex Pinnacle glove for $50,in reviews a guy said he wore then in -25 degrees and his hands were warm. Glove is used in Alaska in dog sleigh racing. Hope they are as warm as they say. tew47
  10. Not sure if i'm posting this in the right place, my appologies if so. I'm curious if anyone has removed the tour pack (trunk) and rear seat as a modification of look for a RSV. I'm thinking that it would totally change the styling and maybe improve the handling in the process. I think it would drastically improve the looks if there was only the rear fender showing, but still retain the bags. I think it would look very sharp. Anyone have done this, if so, much work involved, and do you have a picture? Many thanks, Bar:cool18:
  11. Hi everyone, I will be alongside in San Diege on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We will be tied up at Broadway Pier. I would like to meet with a few of my fellow ventureriders. I'm up for coffee or a beaverage(s) of your choice. I can even arraange for a ship's tour if anyone is interested. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. PM me if you want to get together.
  12. While my brother and I were out riding this year we started kicking around an idea about doing a 4-corners tour come spring. Not the 4-corners area in the Southwest, but the four corners of the US! Touching the bike tire as close as possible to the US border in the SE, SW, NW and NE corners of this country. We haven't actually planned anything yet, but the general idea was maybe to hit Daytona again in the early spring, then swing on down to Key West again, scoot along the southern boarder to San Diego while it is still relatively cool, then up to Washington and over to Main. Lots of other options too, but that will give you some idea of what I am talking about. I don't even know yet how many miles it is, when we might start (if we don't do the Daytona thing), or how long it might take. I can map it out on the computer pretty quick to start answering some of those questions, but I just thought I'd throw the idea out here and see if anyone might be interested in joining a trip like that? Or even part of it? I'm not talking about anything formally planned and pre-scheduled with reservations or anything - just an ad-hoc ride were we throw the leg over the bikes and go. I could actually put together a formal tour with plans and prices if enough people actually wanted to do something like that, but I doubt it. So what say you? Anyone interested in joining up for a long tour? Goose
  13. Hi guys and girls. Have a problem that I was interested in knowing if any of you had ever tackled. I have a Royal Star Tour Classic 1998 with the speedometer on the gas tank. The are some kind of dried up spots on the inside of the glass covering the meter and it really annoyes me (the warden says I am insanely picky to say the least). Have been looking at replacing the glass but before I do this I wanted to know if any of you guys had ever done this. At Yamaha´s spare part list the glass is not listed seperately but I could easily have the glass made. Then again - maybe this is not supposed to be interchangeable and Yamaha wants you to buy a new speedo if the glass brakes for example? Another thing that has crossed my mind is to change the speedo to the digital 2005 Tour Deluxe old Buick style. Don´t know if this is possible but maybe some of you could enlighten me. The speedo being placed on the tank makes it a little akward to look at since one has to look down and therefore off the road and traffic and in my eyes that is something that increases risk of ending up in a accident or rear ending the vehicle in front. God knows that motorcyclists need all the attention and alertness possible in todays traffic. Hope that some of you can help me on this issue and any advice or info is greatly appreciated. Just don´t tell me to get myself a newer bike with the original speedo on the handlebar. Really love my bikes (two 1998 Tour Classics) for the color and that vintage look and I am not about to get another one in the near future - Well - maybe a Venture next spring if the Warden slackens her administration and alertness,,,,,,,,,
  14. I am afraid that St. Jude will not be able to accomodate us on the 18th. They already have a group of 500 scheduled for a tour , and I was also told they dont normally tour on the weekends, even though we did the tour last year on a Saturday, someone from St. Jude is going to get back to me and we are going to try to figure something out. I am hoping we can get this thing done, and not by having to cancel it all together. Stay tuned to this thread, as soon as I know more I will post it...........
  15. Greetings guys. Now here is a problem that I can not solve but therefore hope you can give me some advice. I have a Royal Star Tour Classic II 1998 and am just itching to grease my final drive, as well as doing some mods in the back with the rim off. I have the motorcycle lift so I am good to go except I don´t have a lift frame adapter. I know that Carbon One makes these adapters for the Venture and the newer Tour Deluxe models but not for the older Stars. Is there anybody out there that knows where I can get one made for my bike? How do you guys with these older models do this? Wooden blocks is the last choice but I would rather not go that path. Like to have the things I need for my bike and want to play things safe so to speak. Sincerely hope that you guys can give me some advice on this so I wont have to wheel my queen to the repair shop for a simple task of final drive greasing.
  16. Last weekend...a couple of our sons, friends, my brother and his wife took a 3 day Winery tour! Have never posted pix before, but wanted to try it. The one is at New Diggins, WI and the other is crossing the ferry at Cassville IA. I just got the digital camera so I'm not very good at taking pix or downloading them yet.
  17. Has anyone here used any of the tour companies like Eidelweiss when riding in Europe? I think I want to plan a tour of the Alps and theyseem like the way to go. Any input will help. Thanks
  18. Is it possible to put the RSV trunk and seat on a Tour Delux? Seems that all the right bolt holes are there in the side fender rails. Not sure about the seat and rear fender. I have a friend who's passenger want's a bit more comfort.
  19. Had a strange looking bike pass me the other day on the road. I think the looks are what got my attention. Looked like a cross between a Venture and a spaceship. I thought it was cool. Turns out after i did some internet searchng that it was Victory Vision Tour. Anyone here ever had any experience with one of these? Im fixing to maybe run down to a local stealership and give it the once over.
  20. I am looking for passenger armrests or trunk with built in seat with armrest. I'f anyone knows where I can go or get this please let me know. I have a 2007 Royal Star Tour Delux.
  21. This is really hard for me to do. I have been agonizing over this for quite some time. I am selling the Tour Deluxe on E-Bay. I just don't have the room for 5 motorcycles. GF has a Wing, I have a Wing, GF has an 1100 Shadow Spirit, I have a Heritage Classic and a Tour Deluxe. I decided to keep the GoldWing. I am not going anywhere and am not bad mouthing anything or anyone. Most of you who have read my posts and replies know I have not done that. Too many truly wonderful people here, if that is possible. Who knows, might buy a Venture if I get tired of the GW, or waite to see what Mama Yama bring out for a "new" Venture. If any of you are interested in the bike please contact me via pm and we can work out the details. I have reserved the right to end the auction early as the bike is for sale locally.
  22. My friend and I are doing a tour down thru the Caskill mountains in New York.. Spending the night (motel) near the Catskill park, so we can get as much touring of that area in as possible...Anyone is welcome to come along, just let me know... Leaving Saturday morning from Niagara area around 8 am..(flexible) and returning on Sunday at about 5-7 pm..?
  23. Hey all just wondering what channel venture riders, goldwings others that tour what CB channel is used, thanks Brian D.

    Who has what for sale??

Okay in the mkt for a bike wanting a cruiser or would rather had a tour. I am not married to the idea of either but leaning toward tour. I am wishing to stay under 8k but seeking the best deal for the best bike. Age does not bother me does need to be 1100 or better. Best bang for the buck is the idea. Older and looks good well treated at fair price is as good to me as nearly new with fair price. I am in Mississippi and have until 19th of June before I have to be back in Southern Ohio.. have motorcycle trailer will travel if worth the bike.
