  1. Well I went to see the Doc. today and he said the hip is doing great and set up my surgery for my rt. knee replacemnt for Sept.3rd. I have recived a few orders for Grills and have 10 grills (not spoken for ) that I will have ready to ship before my surgery. I am not going to take down my no orders at this time on my web site. I am offering these Grills to members of this site on a first come first serv . I will be making them again after the end of Oct. so not to worry if you decide to get one down the road. Thanks to everyone for all your support and I hope this will be the last time to go under the knife for a long time. Please email me direct at steveww1@alltel.net if you would like to place an order or call me first at 770-630-0973. Ride Safe Steve

  3. We appreciate the vendors who offer us discounts. These vendors differ from our Gold Star and Silver Star vendors in that they do not officially support nor link back to the VenturerRider site. They are not contributors to our contests and rallies. The decision to offer us a discount is a business decision. It is a win-win situation. We certainly appreciate these vendors but encourage our members to first try and support our Silver Star and Gold Star contributing vendors. If you are a vendor who wishes to be listed in this section, please contact me at dnelson@venturerider.org with your proposal.
  4. I prefer leaving the side engine panels off my '85 in cold weather. But in order to "clean up" the engine area, I'd like to remove the black support tube/bar that attaches to the frame and runs accross the bottom of the jugs front to back. Question is, does that bar do any more than support the plastic panels? I really can't see where it could play a more vital roll than that. Any input would be appreciated!
  5. The wife and I were riding around yesterday when at a reststop she told me it looked like my trunk was bouncing when I hit sizable bumps in the road. (She was riding her V-Star 1100). I immediately found that 2 bolts were missing on the left side from the support bars. Also one on the other side was turned about 1/2 way out. Fortunately I had a bunch of zip ties with me and proceeded to attach them for temp. support. I had just gone over the bike a week earlier with a very good eye when I was spit shining it for a PGR Mission. They were there then, and tight. (I figured they were tight as no space between head of bolt and attachment bar). Anyone ever have these come loose on their own? I will be getting with my dealer in the morning to express ship me a couple of these. I am riding back to work a week from today, (Sunday, July 27th), 1200 miles one way and would prefer bolts over zip ties. I have a bit of luggage, but don't put that much in the trunk. Usually a couple bags on the pilion seat.

  8. OK folks, I have had a number of requests from people who would like an easy way to donate to the support of VentureRider.org and also be reminded of such. Please understand that any support continues to and will ALWAYS be 100% optional. There are now a couple of ways you can help. In the left menu of the forum and the home page is a button that says "Subscribe". This is good for people who do not use PayPal as you can pay by credit card, bank account, or PayPal. It is a recurring $2.00 per month subscription plan. For PayPal users, there is also now a "Paid Subscriptions" option in the UserCP. Just click on UserCP and scroll down to Miscellaneous. You will see "Paid Subscriptions". You can the choose an option of monthly or yearly. At this time, you get nothing extra for helping support the site. Just please know that it is much appreciated. For those of you who have already donated due to the recent server change and even before that, thank you VERY much. You can't know how much it helped. I will also be sending out an email and HOPE that none of you consider it spam. As I said, this is in now way mandatory and whether you choose to help support the site monetarily or not, I am sincerely happy that you are a part of our group.

  10. Sleeperhawk led Wildhair out this morning around 8:00 a.m. We had a great visit with Lowell - but poor guy, he had to endure a Texas Longhorn basketball game:crying: but was able to enjoy a Kansas Jayhawk basketball victory:thumbsup:! After having getting in at midnight Saturday night, it was great to sleep in Sunday morning and just laze around the rest of the day! Sleeperhawk and I want to thank everyone for being there for us Saturday during our Mis-Ad-Venture. It once again hits home how wonderful our "Family" is. Beer was ready to come get us (7 hours one way) with his trailer. One of the guys who stopped and helped block traffic for us when we pushed the bike off the highway was amazed that someone was willing to drive that far. I told him that we had some wonderful friends. Then out of the blue, here comes Royalstarjack and his wife! They were there with us all of the way, helping block traffic for us, and giving us moral support! And after being greeted so warmly by everyone at Col. Poole's, we knew it was worth getting there! Needless to say, everyone on the ride was in one the rest of our Mis-Ad-Venture in the country roads. Yet, everyone stuck with us - 86er, Blackjack, Dragonrider, Riderduke, Leo, Chris and Wildhair. And to top it off, Wildhair rode back to South Carolina with us just in case we broke down. Also, not to mention all the phone call support we had with Squidley, Beer30 and Freebird! What can I say except, once again, we are so fortunate to be part of such a wonderful Family. :bighug:
  11. We need to take action NOW. Tell your Government Representatives that you want their support. "I live, ride and work in your district and I am urging you to support motorcyclists by co-sponsoring H.R. 1076, "The HIPAA Recreational Injury Technical Correction Act.” H.R. 1076 aims at ending health care discrimination for individuals participating in legal transportation and recreational activities-activities like motorcycling, snowmobiling, skiing, horseback riding, and all-terrain vehicle riding. http://www.amadirectlink.com/legisltn/rapidresponse.asp
  12. I was reading a post about someone needing a battery support bar. I have a good one that needs only a bit of paint. I also have a spare box. JB
  13. If you don't have any big plans for tomorrow, aren't riding anywhere or otherwise occupied, how about a show of support for the Fair Tax Act. I am going to do my best to make this rally tomorrow... http://www.fairtax.org/site/Calendar/843229392?view=Detail&id=105621 Hope to see some of the Atlanta area members there. Boody
  14. I have put my bike up on the jack stand for the winter and was wondering if I need to support the rear tire/shock? With it sitting unsupported for long periods of time cause any problems?
  15. There will be a motorcycle ride to support the troops at Fort Benning, Georgia on the 17th of November. Lots of other things happening there at the same time. More info is here: http://www.godblessfortbenning.com/schedule.php
  16. I suspect that with all the new high capacity cell phones that there will soon be no reason for stand alone MP3 players. I just became eligible to upgrade to a new cell phone under my current plan. I started looking and actually got one and then took it back because it didn't support the memory that they said it did. I had 4 Verizon store associates and two a the technical support number tell many different things but NONE of them knew the products that they are selling. So, as usual I found it best to do my own research. I'm glad that I did because there are some great new phones hitting the stores next month and I'll wait for one of them. So, what I am talking about is that several new phones coming out will support 8GB of storage via the micro sdhc chip. That is the same as an IPOD Nano. I like the idea of not having to take my cell phone AND my MP3 player on the bike or anywhere else for that matter. Not only is the 8GB chip now available, but they soon you will be able to get them with up to 32GB. That's a LOT of songs folks. I have over 100 complete CDS on my IPOD and am only using about 8GB of space. Many of those I never listen to or really even like, just loaded up everything I had at the time. So, what do you think? Are stand alone MP3 players going to become a thing of the past? Why would anybody want to carry around two different devices when one will do? I am really looking forward to my new phone/MP3 player next month. Here's a link to the particular one that I am looking at but others are coming to. http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/8404.html
  17. Well folks it's been just over a year this month that I first offered my lift adapters for sale here and I want to take this moment to say "Thanks for all of the support and encouragement I've received from everyone here". I had already been out of a job for the previous 6 months so the extra money I was able to make was more than welcome. It gave me a purpose in filling my days as well as keeping me busy enough so that I didn't go nuts. Officially I'm retired now but fear not as I'll continue offering these lift adapters to anyone who wants one. As noted above making them keeps me just the right amount of busyness. I've even had the highest form of flattery as someone copied my design and has sold them on E-Bay. Since I have no patient on them he's legal if not ethical. He's only done the Standard model and also doesn't offer the Larin Special versions. I don't think he sells many thou as i've seen nurmous times he's listed them and had no sales. So in this regard I thank everyone again who has bought the adapters thru me. Also while Thanking folks for their support & purchases of the lift adapters I want to say the same for those who have purchased my Stebel horn brackets. THANKS to all, Larry
  18. I recently purchased a 2006 RSV. I really like it. The ride is plush and I like all the other ammenities. My wife really likes the big back seat. BUTTTTTTTT... I am a big guy and the driver's seat isn't comfortable at all. It offers no lower back support and that hump on the front of it does a number on the family jewels. Is there something more comfortable out there? I can probably "break my body in" to the hump in the front of the seat but I need more back support. I see there are driver backrests out there. I was hoping someone here might have one for sale that I can buy so I won't be out the full $250-300 for a new one if it doesn't work out for me... Thanks SpEEd Safely CG
  19. remember seeing on this site somebody writing on plastic repair . While taking my fairing apart found out that the plastic stub that holds the far end of shield support was broken off .I will have to repair it but I need some kind of glue or repair kit.I will have to make myself an other support but I will have to glue it or weld it to the fairing .
  20. Repairing Broken Windshield Trim Tabs The great things about this forum is the fantastic ideas that we get from each other. This one is so good and so easy that I sure would like to take credit for it but the fact is, the idea came from expanding on a post made by SteveO where he used these type clips to take the slack out of the holes that the tabs actually snap into. His post gave me an idea for repairing the tabs that were actually already broken. The tabs on the back of the plastic chrome windshield trip break very easily. Most people who have ever had the piece off, have broken at least one of them. The following is an easy way to repair them to better than new condition. I had a couple of them broken off and this is so much better and stronger, I actually broke the other two off and did this on all of them. Here is a picture of one of the broken tabs. At most auto parts stores, you will find these clips. They were called "Speed Nuts" at Autozone and I believe these were size 14. It was the smallest ones that they had. Here is what they look like when you take them out of the package. Now...as the top picture shows, there is a center "bar" or "Support" in the center of what is left of the broken tab. In order to slide the "speed nut" over the broken support, you will need to cut the center out of the back of the clip. Also, because the clip is just slightly too wide, you'll have to shave just a bit off each side of the back side of the clip that you just cut the center out of. I used a Dremel tool with a thin cutting disk to do both. Here is what you end up with. Now, simply slide the clip over the broken support and you have a brand new clip that fits right into the slot where it should. It fits pretty tight but just to be sure, I filled the grooves with two part epoxy. They aren't going anywhere.
