  1. Hey Folks, First of all, I'm new here, and am very impressed with all the information that is available and of the family atmosphere that is evident in all the conversations I've read. I'm glad I found this site and look forward to getting to know some of you. Been riding for many years but never did much of the wrenching on my bikes but now have some extra time and look forward to learning how. Read in some older posts about the many problems the RSV has with the audio system and made the decision to replace the amp. My audio problems: 1. radio comes out of rear speakers only - have to listen close with engine off to even hear it 2. CB works and has voume control 3. CD, aux, and cassette tape do not work at all - and are not even recognized 4. there is no volume control for radio, but can hear the beeps for each volume selection on the front speakers - it does shut off the volume at the lowest setting. 5. have split faring and cleaned all the connectors and put dielectric grease on them - when exercising the connectors I can make the radio work with a louder volume coming out of the front speakers until the key is shut off - then it returns to just faintly coming out of the rear speakers. Should receive my new used radio amp in the next couple days and look forward to installing in my 2000 RSV to see if that fixes the problems. But I digress. My question for you all is what other maintenance or improvements should I consider doing while I have the faring split with the radio amp out? Give me some pointers or some past experience. Keep in mind - just purchased this bike with 5000 miles on it in early September. I changed the oil and rear tire and put 7000 more miles on it during September. It is stock except for the windshield, passing lamps, and mufflers. I purchased it knowing about the audio problem. Thanks in advance, Jinksy
  2. Hi everyone, I'm new here. I recently became interested in the venture. I love the bike after trying a couple of them! I like the radio, and I think it sounds good, but can you upgrade the speakers so you can play them loud with no distortion? Better speakers maybe?
  3. I have a 2000 mm edition. My front speakers quit working first then my left speakers in my headsets stated buzzing and then quit.I split the fairing and checked all of the connections. No improvements.I priced a new radio for almost $1000.00 Any suggestions,Fixes,Etc.....
  4. GeorgeS, I took your advice and have been spraying everything I can find but... I can turn on the cruise; all the lights come on, but pushing "set" no longer works. It used to work, although it would fall out now and then and the "resume" light would come on. I would reset it and it would work again. It won't set at all now. I have checked the clutch lever, sprayed the "set-resume"etc slider, cancel button, but I have not yet taken all that stuff apart. I have also adjusted and checked the brakes and throttle cables. Running out of ideas:confused24: The radio... works great except in the helmets. The left earpiece works, right one just barely. Does it in all the helmets but it works thru the speakers great. I suspect it is in the amp or one of the wires to/from the amp(the one in the left fairing) but I guess it could be in the radio itself. Got any ideas:think: And last but not least, the CB squelch don't work. It xmits and rec. just fine, both thru the speakers and headset(just the left one-see radio above) but it is always wide open squelch. Has anyone ever replaced the squelch pot. in one of these CBs Take any help I can get... TIA
  5. I've installed the Polk 401db speakers in my 06 Midnight tonight.. Man, there's a job ya only wanna do once, especially in the trunk!! But was well worth it.. I don't think the volume is any higher than the clarion speakers but the quality is better to my ears. To my ears.. the Polks at volume 20 is like the Clarions at volume 17 or 18-ish.. Not sure.. One of the rear speakers on mine was damaged so I had to replace it.. I find these speakers to have a better quality sound, a deeper and richer tone to them.. Tomorrow I'll find out what they are like on the road..
  6. hi guys, what size are the speakers in the front and rear of the Venture (2006)? Cheers
  7. Sure would be nice to have the time to do this. Turn your speakers on.. Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scjb_f95diA I wonder how long it took to put this all together.
  8. Some of you may be interested in this. I could not afford to by two new headsets for the wife and I, so while browsing edsets products I noticed that they had individual speakers for $12.25 each in the accessories and parts. I ordered a pair and took my J&M head set and spliced these speakers in. Althou you could get the matching connectors prob. from Radio shack I just cut the one off from J&M as well as edsets and soldered the wires together. The wires are not color coded so had to guess here and tried it out before I soldered it in. If you look at the attachement with the speakers facing up the top wire or the one right (with red arrow) was soldered to the white wire on the J&M and the other on the black wire. Don't know how much difference it would have made but on speakers usually poitive to positive and neg to neg. Any way doing it this way it worked and the sound is great. For $25 and shipping It is like a whole different set. Hope this may help some who are in the same boat I was in but would like better sound. Thanks to Don for what he has done on this and I really debated on writing this cause I don't want to take anything away from edsets. The music is better and the conversation is better with this set up.
  9. Does anybod use a throat mic for thier CB??? What brand works well with the CB in the 2nd Gen RSV???? I wear a half helmet and would like to use the speakers on the bike to listen to the CB and would like to talk on the CB, but I dont want a boom mic on my helmet. Any sujestions????
  10. Used CB all day today during group CMA ride. Leaving a parking lot, I tooted my weak stock horn to get someone yakking to get with the program. But man, my horn was actually LOUD! WOW! Got to the end of my ride and pulled up beside my wife's bike and told her "CHECK THIS OUT!". It was so loud it about knocked me off the bike. She said "sounds as cheesy as it always does". I took my helmet off and hit it again. Same weak toot. unplugged the helmet, switched to the speakers, hit the horn and BAM, horn sounds out of speakers (remember, headset and therefore mic are not plugged in). Turn off CB and leave just radio on and no problem. HELP!!! If I turn up the CB loud and forget and blow the horn, I am gonna be hurting!
  11. OK folks...some of you may remember that last fall I had posted my plans to do a group purchase of Edset's Headsets. After he told me that he was coming out with a new Third Generation product, I decided to wait. Not only that but to be honest, I've tried a lot of headsets. J&M high and low ends, AirRider which are considered high end and EXPENSIVE, etc. etc. Regardless of if I paid a LOT or just a little, I have never been happy with what I got. So, I have really been on the fence about spending $200.00 for another set that would leave me wanting more. Last week I broke down and ordered a set of Edset's. They came in yesterday and I found time to put them in today. I've got to tell you folks, I think we have a winner. These have the best sound that I have heard from any that I've tried. Bass is pretty good and the music is very clear. Haven't tried them yet for communications but to be honest, that was the least of my concern. I've found that most are fine for communications. He did tell me that the biggest complaint that he gets from new customers is that the mic is sensitive and he has to explain to people that you need to turn down your intercom with these because they don't require the volume that others do. Now here is what I REALLY like about these. They are completely modular. If a speaker goes bad, you unplug and replace it. If the mic goes bad, you unplug and replace it. All connectors for the upper and lower cords are gold plated also. But what I REALLY like is the fact that on the back of the module is a 1/8" speaker jack. You can even buy these without speakers if you want to and plug your earbud speakers into the module. I bought the speakers but also plan to try them with some good earbud speakers. I think it will work GREAT. You can also plug an IPOD or other MP3 player into that same jack if you wish. These are just very versatile. That jack would be a great option for you first gen riders who don't have an auxiliary input. So, I am planning to order another set for my wife's helmet and if there is any interest, I can put together a group purchase at this time. Price will depend upon what you want but the set I bought for an open face helmet with RCA microphone, speakers and speaker pouches came to about $210.00. I think I could get that down to about $180.00 plus shipping if I order 10 or more sets. I would have them all shipped to me and I would cover that shipping. Then to you would probably be about $7.50 or so in the USA. I will have to get a shipping price for Canada. So...if you are interested... now is the time to speak up. 12. So, the radio has been intermittent, at best last few weeks. Comes on, goes off, all on it's own. Tried the recommendation tonight of, splitting the fairing, reseating the big connectors and applying di-lectric grease before the last reseat. All, to no avail. Here's the current symptoms. -Radio plays through rear speakers only. -Volume control does nothing, doesn't get louder even at 30, only goes mute when it goes to zero. -When adjusting volume, the front speakers make that beep with every volume click, so they're working. -Also, the CB transmits through all 4 speakers and the volume adjustment for that, works fine. -Aux still doesn't work. Thought I was on to something when I discovered the connector from amp to cassette wasn't connected together. Still didn't work though, after connecting. One dealer thought it was the "head unit" needs to be replaced. Is that the amp? Another dealer thought, it's the antenna... So, it's sitting in the garage looking ugly, as the fairing is off. Luckily, rain tomorrow.....I hope. Any idears? Perty please?
  13. hi all just got this in today from wingstuff  http://www.wingstuff.com/codebase/data/magick_cache/0cae441cc683bacb24ff22d5e5cb44b9.gif i hooked them up in my wife's and my helmets today and the question is this we have a clicking in the speakers (headsets) it sounds like a spark click what do y'all think it is thanks George C
  14. Guys, I have feedback in my speakers when my horn is activated. I found that if I turn my squelch up it goes away. Is this normal on a 02 Venture?? Any thoughts!!
  15. Bought mirrors from Drag Specialties that are sold for H.D. fairings called Pork Chop # 0640-0191. They will mount using the screw above the speakers and drilling another hole using a bolt and nut. A pair list for $90.
  16. Tried a quick search but didn't find anything so,,, what size are the speakers in a 86 Venture? Anyone have any recommendations on a good weather resistant replacement?
  17. I just finished putting in the Buddy Rich fix for using the cell over the zumo, and it works great. My question is that the head set I have hangs over my ears and is really uncomfortable. If I switch back to the external speakers will the mic still work? If no one knows I will give it a shot when I get home this afternoon.
  18. hi all i have a question about the cb on the bike. this past weekend i used my 3/4 face helmet with the headset. i have not used this setup in over 2 years. i normaly use a 1/2 helmet without a hedset. the problem is i could not hear anyone talking on ch19. i ask for a radiocheck several times and never got a come back. i could hear the am/fm thru the hs and dash speakers. the rx icon was on the control head and when i pushed the tx button the icon would come on the control head also. the squech was set at 1 but all i could hear was noise/static. so i set the squech at 2 and the cb was just quite. last nite i had my wife go across the street and talk to me on a handheld cb i could hear her talking just fine thru either the hs or the speakers. but she could not hear me talk all she got was static/ noise everytime i pushed the talk button from either the driver conn. or the passenger conn. are you suppose to hear your voice thru the hs while you are talking/transmitting? yesterday morning i did hear a trucker on the cb thru the dash speakers but i didn't have my helmet with the head set on so i just turned the cb off, to concentrate on mornig rush hour traffic. any ideas. thanks in advance don:(
  19. When using my new head set, I have noticed that I have sound only coming out of one side. I don't know if this is normal or not. Any comments would be appreciated. I have to look into it. Thanks in advance.
  20. I just did some searching and did find the info I was looking for...that does not mean that it is not here. I want to install in one of my saddle bags an integrated sound system. I want speakers and mic on my helmet and controls on the handle bars. I would like to have a CB, am/fm/wb radio also. I deal would be to have the helmet equipment be Blue Tooth but could live with a cord and jack. I would rather not put speakers on my RSTD. Any recommendations gratefully appreciated. I have to get helmet and all the equipment. Thanks
  21. okay folks, i need the very best helmet speakers money can buy. they must have a broad frequency range with good bass responce. ive got a soso set but i'm half deaf and certain frequencies are hard to hear. where can i get some. just put a new sirius radio on my vstar and i want to be able to here it.
  22. I ride mostly solo, and my wife rides separate on her intruder. So, just got a pair of "dual mode" headsets and a JMCB for her bike. My question is on the Venture can I make the audio play thru the speakers, while at the same time the CB comes thru the headset? I can adjust the volume of the Audio, CB and IC all individually. There seems to be separate HS and SP settings under both the Audio and CB menus, but when I change it in one location, the other changes also.

    Sound system.

has anyone ever installed an EQ on there bike thats not powered,,the Pryamid 403G that Freebird installed has a 100 watt amp built into it,what i need is info on an install on a passive EQ ( no power ) that i can use to run the system with a external amp , much like a system in a car ,,I have Polk audio EX2540 Component speakers front and rear,,alpine 4 ch amp,,and a bazooke 8" tube ,,channels 1 and 2 on the amp are powering the front and rear speakers and channels 3 and 4 on the amp are bridged to power the tube sounds really great,,,but there's no way to EQ the sound to make it sound awesome ,,,,
  24. Hi All, Trying to decide if this conversion really makes a big difference in the audio quality on the Venture. I am somewhat concerned for when I pull up the etronics site, the same model EQ that was used for the conversion is listed as 200 watts, but the conversion thread states it is 100 watt, so I suspect the manufacturer may be playing the number game. For those of you that have done this, was it worth the effort? For example, before you may have had to turn your volume to 25 to hear at highways speeds, but after this install, were you reaching the same point around 15 or so? Already upgrade my speakers on a 2006 Venture to Marine grade Polk Audio, but since I listen at high volume, I want to ensure I get enough power to the speakers to keep from harming them in the long run, so torn between the EQ install or an AMP, however I don't want to loose any truck space. Thanks for any help and advice!!!!! :confused24:
  25. are the 1st generations speakers just regular speakers or are they weather resistant? What would be a good upgrade without adding an amp
