  1. OK several people have been asking about the leftover parts from ythe Hannigan hack, so here';s what's gone already. Diamond R hide a hitch, gone! Rear fender, Gone! Rear rotor, gone! Saddlebags are going on Goldie mounted backwards to accomodate the Ventureline rear bumper, so gone! Rear brake, gone. Yet to find a home, chrome triple tree, rear shock, rear tire, differential (hoping to sell to a VMax owner exchange) and rear sub frame. These parts have only 8K on them. The rear shock was sold but the interested party recently totaled his scoot. If interested just PM me...
  2. Second Gen. Riders, As many of you already know, I hate getting ripped off and there are many issues with Yamaha Motorcycles that I think Yamaha could have addressed better. The rear shock on the RSV and RSTD is one of them! As with the rest of the "Kits" I sell in the Classifieds, I hope to bring a replacement shock to the VR.ORG members with cost and quality foremost in my mind. I am working on a replacement shock for the Second Gen. RSV and RSTD because there doesn't seem to be a decent selection for these shocks when they fail. (And they will fail!) My quest is to find something that is in the $300.00 or less range that will work on the RSV's and RSTD's. Does anyone have a shock removed that can give me a measurement, from centerline of one eye to the centerline of the other eye, and approx. diameter? Your help would benefit many Second Gen. Owners on this site. The next phase of this quest is to find a Second Gen. owner that is willing to install this new shock at a greatly discounted price to be my "crash test dummy" so to speak. Since I don't own a Second Gen. RSV or RSTD I have no way to test this new shock and again, I need your help. Please keep an eye on this thread and when I find what I am looking for, I will post for a volunteer. Thanks in advance for your help, Earl
  3. Hi gang , looking for an aftermarket shock. Can the fine group here suggest a quality shock ? Going to the koots and after doing a long trip to Toronto, Ontario..so, I need a good ride for my toochie, one thing I reupholstered the seat with a gel as well. Thanks much appreciated. Mike in Calgary..
  4. Hi guys I have 2 small poblems. #1 is I have noisy front brakes. Sounds like metal on metal but when I checked the pads there was lots left. I was wonering if it is the bike cleaner I am using and thngs are just to dry. I use S100 cleaner. 2Nd Problem is when I sit on the bike the rear shock sqeaks. I tried to spray the rubber with Moovit but it still sqeaks. Is my Shock shot. Thanks Guys for all the relys. :thumbsup2:
  5. I just have to say how happy I was to find this forum and I'm new here. I recently bought a 2006 RSTD which went into service April 07 so it still has a couple of years of warranty but after a few rides I had some things come up that I wanted to look into. First off I had the moaning shock issue which I found out through looking through the forums is not that unusual and that the shock is a bit of an issue on these bikes. The other question I had was about what oil and filter to use and other maintenance items which I also found answers to. So I guess right at the moment I haven't any thing else to look up but wanted to say that while reading through the many many threads I realized what a supportive and knowledgeable bunch of people hang out here and that I'm glad I found you all!
  6. I just pulled the rear shock off my parts bike and it is a KYB shock. Is this stock?
  7. I have noticed a 'bounce' to my bike that has not been there before. I have checked the air in the shock and it is holding fine. However, upon grabbing her by the butt and giving her the test, she bounces. Could this be only the shock or is there more to it than this?
  8. I have a nearly new E-Bay found Progerssive rear shock and spring assembly ready for installation in my 86 Royale. Does anyone have access to a copy of the original paperwork that would have been included with the shock when new?
  9. We ride 2 Up almost exclusively. With a combined weight of about350 lbs with gear, whats a good starting point for that rear shock? Do anyone recommend adding air to the fronts?
  10. I promise this will be the last question or two about the rear shock (from me anyway). I have a '99 RSV that I am putting a new rear shock on. I have been assured that the newer shock, that was changed starting with '05, will fit. The newer shock has, I'm assuming, a vent hose. What do I do with it? Is there a certain place it has to be routed to?
  11. A friend of mine has a 1999 Venture that has a air leak in his rear shock. Is their any fix for this or just get another shock. If a different shock is the fix what years will work?
  12. Hey guys,, will the newer '91-'93 mono shock linkage fit on my '83?
  13. According to the Clymer's manual to replace the rear shock you have to remove the seat, rear tire and rear fender. Is all this necessary?
  14. I have to replace the rear shock on my bike and would like some advice about what to replace it with. I have spoken to Buckeye performance and was quoted $665 delivered to a Detroit address...$691 to Ontario....for the Works Performance shock and $585+ tax for the OEM here in Ontario. Which would be the best option? And is Buckeye's price comparable with any other dealer. I trust any advice you may have. Thank you Ian
  15. I'm attaching a pic from one of my current shocks on the sidecar, I need to replace/upgrade these puppies so the wheel will not wear a hole in the sidecar floor (this is a leaner with the wheel centered under the rider's rear). As you can see on the attached pic this shock is 13" O.C. +/-. The shock is also agled about 60 degrees so dampening is diminished. I know that getting a longer shock will give me more clearance. So, unless anyone here has a good set they want to part with that would fit my needs, I will be shopping on E-Bay, what can you tell me I should look for so I don't wind up wasting my money on something way too light for my needs? Or would i be better of to just get a new set?
  16. Will a sear shock off an '05 and up fit on an '04 and down? The picture on the Yamaha parts list is different and the part # is different. It's also cheaper than the older one.
  17. Gentlemen: I have a question for you. While removing the rear wheel and lifting up on the rachet which will cause the swingarm to lift also until the nut comes loose. I noticed some play in the assembly and found that the play was coming from the bushing area of the top mount on the rear shock. My question is should there be any play in this bushing at all or should it be a very tight fit at that point. I attached a picture of the shock point I am refrering to.
  18. Does anyone have experience with rear shock being covered under warranty for the groan? Mine just started this and I have about two mos. left of coverage. Thanks, Ebabe

  20. I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH A REP. FROM YAMAHA USA FROM CALIFORNIA, AND THE YOUNG LADY TELLS ME THAT THERE IS NO KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE REAR SHOCK FAILING ON THE 2ND GEN VENTURE OR THE TOUR DELUXE??? WHAT I AM REQUSTING FROM ANY MEMBER OR NON MEMBER HERE, IS A LIST OF VIN NUMBERS OF MACHINES THAT HAVE HAD THE REAR SHOCK FAIL, AND IF IT WAS COVERED BY YAMAHA OR IF IT WAS OUT OF POCKET? I DON'T HAVE TO HAVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION, JUST SERIAL NUMBERS OF THE FAILED BIKE. POST IT HERE OR SEND IT DIRECT TO MY E-MAIL royalstarventure03@yahoo.com thanks for your help, i would love to choke the dist. rep with a list of known failures and even better, if they were covered under warranty. mine has been replaced 3 times, and needs a 4th and my warranty ends at the end of this year and they don't want to help. any seat replacements and vin numbers would also be welcome thanks, mike/eusa1
  21. I need a few parts for my cruise addition project. I am adding a 1988 cruise control to my 1983 plain jane I need the bracket that mounts to the triple tree that the cruise light pod screws to. Also the rubber grommet that goes around the ignition switch. They are items #13 & 14 on attached PDF of parts listing. Anything from 1986 thru 1993 should work. Also I need a set of throttle cables from a bike that had cruise (83-93). I have the pulley box that connects the upper and lower cables. I didn't realize cables were different until I got the bike stripped down yesterday. Will the cables from a second gen work for what I need? I see several sets of these on Ebay for very little. They look very similar in pictures. Also could use a 1983 TCI unit. A clutch side foam grip would also be nice. I got the throttle side one with the right hand electrical control. Also, I bought a rear shock with a spring. The one I bought is from a 1987. I did not get the air line that goes into the right top of the shock. The one on my 83 that only has the air bag goes into the left side of the shock and is too short. Or, if anyone can tell me what the threads are going into the shock, maybe I can get an adapter. I have an extra fork tube air set with shrader valve. I might be able to couple to existing line with one of the air lines from this if I knew thread size. If you have any of these PM or email me price with shipping. Thanks Gary
  22. So, if you were way out in back country, good road & visibility, you know your bike is in good shape (tires, shock, steering is tight, stock windshield), and you should take it up to 110 MPH (Mom, don't read this), what would make it get a steering wobble if you let off the gas to coast back to highway speed. Testing the (RSTD) bike yesterday, after a new rear shock was installed, I took it to speed. Acceleration and sustained speed 100 to 110 was fine, but when I let off to coast back to 60 it started pretty serious wobble. I corrected it by bring the engine back up to speed and decelerating more gradually. Seems, perhaps, the engine torque did not agree with something about the quick drop in speed. As it was correctable by increasing the RPM's, I don't think I can attribute it to steering (pretty new Avon tires and the steering head is tight). Ideas,,, (besides don't do that)? Mike G in SC
  23. (First, I'm not getting anything from this. Just thought this could help out the bike owners here. And if this isn't where the post needs to be or if it's not allowed, feel free to move or delete.) If anyone is interested, there may be a quality replacement air adjustable shock available for us. I also have a Road Star and I'm a member at the Road Star Clinic. One of the members is "Tricky" of TrickyAir.com. A few of the Roadie riders have bought his air ride kits lately and have nothing but good things to say about his air ride kit and their dealings with him. I sent him a PM earlier asking if he could supply a replacement shock for our Royals and he said he probably already has a shock that would work but he would need pics and measurements. By the way... it comes with a small compressor for adjustments. If anyone is interested I'll put his info below for you. As far as pricing, check out his website. I believe they are all priced the same. And I know he will do a 3 hr discount at the Clinic every now and then... To give you an idea of what the kit is... http://roadstarclinic.com/images/fbfiles/images/rs2-d37200e2c0bd0a588f3fdeebbe56c5fa.JPG Tricky Air & Billet 695 Sol Colston Road Finger, TN. 38334 Email: sales@trickyair.com "Call toll free at 1-866-922-3533 call direct at 731-934-9472 if that's busy call 731-934-9470"
  24. Dano

    Here it is

OK, here's the pics. She looks pretty good for a standard, does have cruise but not much else. The Yamaha foot pegs will go with what ever bike I keep. Sits good, nice backrest. Got a lot of work to do. The PO bought it in '01, last plated in '03 with only 1300 miles put on it in that time and since (36,031 miles on her now!). Poor thing has been sitting outside most of this time, but thankfully the paints not faded. Throttle cables frozen, tires flat-spotted (but will be putting new ones on anyway). Needs fork work done, haven't checked rear shock yet. Basically a tear-down like I did mine a couple of years ago and then see which one we wanna keep. (I know, why not both?!) PO didn't know where the lower fairing legs were, didn't know they were supposed to have them!
  25. Hi there, can anyone recommend a retrofit for the rear air shock and compressor system for the first gen bikes?.... mine is toast and I think I want to just install a quality monoshock and chuck all the old components. thanks for any advice Gary
