  1. Finally had a chance to see what this baby will do. Saturday Mama & I joined two other couples (scream'n eagle types) for a decent ride. We took the back way, up 285 to Pine Junction (was within a block of "Clearview") then south through Deckers & on to Woodland Park which was the first destination site of the season. (The Dust-off Run) They had a "Poker Run, a band, beeeer, 'dogs & door prizes. (It was a fund raiser for a local charity) The weather was perfect (high 70's). That stretch of road was a perfect test area for the RSV. It has curves, winds, straights, narrows, wides, ups & downs. It was about an eighty mile ride each way through the Colorado Mountains. It's the same route we used to take on our way to Cripple Creek for the MIA/POW rally. Mama loved her new "throne". She was very comfortable. I thought the RSV handled very smooth. Our HS's worked well & the much discussed gear whine was not all that annoying. The SET's were not an issue. They either didn't keep up or couldn't keep up. I did things on the RSV that would of ground the floorboards off my old VTX. All in all, I am very satisfied with my new ride. I think I'll keep it a while. It's Official, The riding season has begun! DNB
  2. How does an first gen act when there is a hole in the carb diaphragms? Would that cause it to run lean?
  3. hey all getting ready to buy venture next couple of weeks and i will be in sanford from 18-22 of this month actually this weekend and wondering if someone would meet up with me and let me look over your venture and hear it run. Thanks Brian D.
  4. This is question about my ( work ) bike... The Honda forum was little or no help. Has any one ran a Oil other then the Honda brand in one of these?? I run Rotella T in my RSV, would it hurt to run this in the Honda V twin???? Also, is there a filter conversion chart some place on here?? I would like to get away from the honda filter as well.. Thanks for any help!!! Kreg:confused24:

    Moonshine Lunch Run

Do any members normally attend the Moonshine Lunch Run in Illinois in April? http://moonshine-run.com/Moonshine/ If so, maybe we'll run into you there (not literally, I hope) in a couple of months. Cheers,
  6. The good news is that after waiting for about 6 weeks, Verizon FINALLY got my DSL installed today. The bad news is that it will only work if I take my computer outside, sit it on the central air unit, run an extension cord around the house to plug the DLS modem into, and connect it directly to the telephone junction box. The modem will sync out there but not when I connect it in the house. Apparently I've got some sort of problem with my internal wiring. Too many outlets or something. The thing is, we don't even use any hard wired phones in the house, only cellular, so I just have to trace out the jacks and disconnect some or just run a new cat 5 wire from the junction box outside. Maybe I'll get around to that tomorrow.
  7. OK folks..I have done this before and we've always picked up some new members. I don't know how many out there don't know about us by now but it has been a long time since I did this so decided to run it again. We'll see what happens. It's NOT about selling patches, just a way to help get the word out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300213514213
  8. I've been working on my bike for the past week, getting ready for the summer. I have some Ride On tire sealent. http://www.ride-on.com/prod_mot.asp Before I put this in the tires, does anyone else run with this in their tires and is there any down side?
  9. My brother is thinking about putting a 2004 RSV motor on his 98 Royal Star.I was wondering if anybody on this site had done this. Also if anybody knew of problems we would run into.
  10. from orignal owner never ridden hard or in the rain it has been layed down a few time but cleaned up well afterwards two tone paint job and has never run out of gas he clames its a good ride for around town or getting a gallon of milk
  11. Just curious if anyone on the site has done a before and after dyno run on their second generation Venture or Royal Star after adding some or all of the following items to improve the performance : 1. Aftermarket slip ons. 2. K&N or other less restrictive air filter. 3. Dyna 3000 or other ignition mod. 4. Jet Kit. I am sure that many people on the site have done some or all of the above and if you didn't confirm the results with a dyno run what did the seat of the pants feel indicate after the mods.
  12. Since I cant afford the Flanders mod at this time I just installed the Barons risers instead. Just got back from a test ride and man, what a difference. Im getting ready to put some mileage on them now to really see how they are. Im not too crazy about them touching the ignition cover but its really not too much of an issue since I run the black one. It also would have been nice if they were chromed, but what the hey..... Big test will be next weekend...600 mile trip to West Palm Beach.
  13. 89 vr:took the carbs off the 93,put them on the 89,run great,2200 mls,got home, took diap, from 89 carb,as 93 had holes,i had patched, run good for about 20 mls, bike starts & run like the excetator pump dose not work[i know that it dose not have an excelator pump]sea form-marvo mist oil,1200 mls to get it to run kinda right, have to have the chock, pulled out, outer wises, open the throttle a little,it will die, holding speed, it hasatates, just like no excelaror pump, pulled the air filter, spray a little gas in,works like it should, ijust can't beleave that all 4 carbs are, screewer up,so put the 89 carbs back on,runs like it should what do you thank:confused24:
  14. We went out with about 1200 other riders on a ride 02-23-08 called the BORDELLO RUN. http://www.pahrumpvalleytimes.com/2008/Feb-15-Fri-2008/news/19751622.html We mist a couple runs in January and there will be one every Saturday from now on if we choose to go. It was about a 200 miler with stops at 3 famous bordello's in Pahrump,NV. We had a blast and met some pretty good people. Many different brands of bikes, but still a lot of HD's. Talked to a guy on a 07 VENTURE and told him of the site and gave him the Addy and saw him pitch the paper in the trash.(kinda irritated me) but to each there own. The only other thing that irritated us was their was only 500 patches to the first 500 and no pins and one color of T-shirt (red Long sleeve) but the ride was great and the steak dinner was good and we got to see the world famous Chicken Ranch and they have daily specials. The riding is why we moved to the warmer climate and with temps in the 70's this week we have no regrets..........................Ron

  16. Can anyone tell me how to check the timing chain tension. I have a noise that I am trying to run down and would like to be able to eliminate the timing chain as the cause. Thanks for any help.
  17. mother nature, had a good run at east texas last nite, but missed, through, even the turtles, had life jackets on
  18. Went up to Sault Ste Marie for my fathers 70th Birthday Party. Had a good time, but we left this morning in some nasty weather. The first 180 miles of the 475 mile run was not fun. We were travelling between 25 and 50 miles an hour. Windy, snow coverred roads with white out conditions. On top of the Mackinaw bridge they were escorting the trucks and trailors. The rode way was clear, but the wind WOW. You can see the car in front of us was white with snow which was the way most vehicles were and you could barley see there lights, when they hit there brakes. The last picture is my Father with Mr. Bon Soo (Mascot of the winter carnival), who made an appearance as my cousin is the Vice President of the orgnaization. Made it home safe and sound, after longer than normal run. My two Brothers, sister and family are still in the Sault as they closed down highway 17 on the Cdn side so they were not able leave. Brad
  19. If 2 of the carb boots between the carb and air box are leaking how will the bike run?
  20. I apologize if this has all been covered before. I have partial answers but not the whole thing... I have an XM and a Garmin (I know - should've had the Zumo with the built in XM - but the Nuvi 350 was free). I would like to run the audio from the XM through the aux on the back of the cassette. I think I can handle that part. My tunes would then play through the dash. Ideally, I would like to run the audio from the Garmin through the 5 pin headset line. How can I tap into that? Lastly, what is a tidy way of running switched power to both of these devices? Thank you in advance!
  21. My 99 has been a jewel for the last 5 years I've owned it. However I recently went a whole 6 weeks without running it(I know, thats inexcusable for some who lives in Florida). Now I have a problem with a rough idle(sounds like Harley) and stalling. Runs fine however under power. I assume I've got gunk/crap in the idle circuit of the carbs. My dealer suggested Ring Free in the tank. I put some in and I'm gonna run the tank out this Sunday and see what happens.Anyone else ever had this problem? BTW I've been an auto mechanic for 35 years and have always HATED working on Japaneese carbs--very small jets and passages and overly complicated.
  22. Reminds me of a Beer30,Stardbog,E-Fishin-C event.:stirthepot: Sorry can't get the audio to run. http://www.cruzincooler.com/
  23. The bike was down for approx. 4 mo. while I decided if I was going to ride again and also fixing all of the broken plastic. I did start it probably twice a month during that time. Now that it is all glued back together and ready to ride, it doesn't want to run for approx. 15 to 20 minutes after starting. It seems that after the motor gets a little heat in it, it seems to even out and will idle pretty smoothly. I have run about 1/4 can of Seafoam in the first full tank, but haven't run it all out yet. It starts good, but needs to have the choke on quite a while. Also, I get a strong smell of gasoline while riding. Does this sound like carb problems, or possibly something else? Any help will be appreciated. Don H.
  24. Have been researching on how to wire my 01 for a trailer HELP PLEASE!!! last info i recieved was as follows. If i buy a hoppy converter46255 and run it straight from the battery that should be all i need. Is this correct?
  25. I don't even know where to start here. There have been a number of threads lately that went from fun to tense to downright confrontational within a few posts. Some should probably never had been started and others were fairly innocent. It seems that some folks are just sitting by watching for anything that they consider ever so slightly politically incorrect and just POUNCE as soon as they see it. That kind of attitude will destroy what we have built here if we allow it to. When I started this group, I set some very basic guidelines and so far, they have worked fairly well. Basically the guideline is that this is a PG rated site. No nudity, vulgarity, dirty jokes, etc. The vast majority here have respected that and I thank you all for it. It gets borderline once in a while but when it does, a short note is all it takes to get things back on track. Another thing we have done here is to try and keep discussions of a political nature, religious differences, etc. to a minimum. To some, there may seem to be a disparity in regards to religious talk. There are many posts here asking for prayer for a member and other such things. That is perfectly acceptable and I'll NEVER try to stop it. What is NOT encouraged are arguments about different religious beliefs or even about whether or not a member does or does not believe. It seems that political correctness has also crept more and more into the objections here. Are people just LOOKING for a reason to be offended? I've seen several fairly innocent jokes that one or two people have been offended by. Actually, I sometimes think that they aren't truly offended, just trying to get something started. We have to all work together folks. If you read something that is not completely politically correct, sometimes you just need to be adult enough to just move on. Let it go. We don't need to make a mountain out of every mole hill. The hyper-sensitivity to political correctness has to stop. None of these issues are major at this point. All sites go through these things as they grow. The more members you have, the more chance that there will be people of drastically different opinions about things. That is especially true when the group is made up of people from all over the nation and world. Political beliefs vary greatly. Differences include politics, gun control, nudity, religion....pretty much everything that touches our lives on a daily basis. Here is the bottom line folks. I love what we have built here. I count many of you among my best friends. You are MUCH more to me than an online community. I would not want to lose a single member due to somebody being offended about a post and/or what types of posts are acceptable here. At the same time, having a LOT of members has never been the primary goal of VentureRiders. I would honestly rather have 500 members who truly are happy to be here than to have 5000 that are fighting and bickering all the time. Being the largest Venture club around is just not important. The friendships are what is important. I will continue, with the help of our very few moderators, to run this site the best way that I know how. I started this club with a general idea on how I thought it should be run. This club exists because of my disagreement with how some other sites were run. I have always tried to get a feel for, ask for, understand your thoughts and opinions. I have always tried to put the desires of the MAJORITY of our members above all else in how I run things here. I will NEVER please everybody. So, I hope that each and every one of you will continue to find something about VentureRiders that you like and will stick around. I hope that we can all be adult enough to ignore those things that we don't like. Move on and just realize that the site is run to please as many as possible and you are NOT going to agree with everything and everybody. If you can't do that though, consider doing what I did when I was unhappy with the clubs already available. Start a new one. Do exactly the same thing I did. Register a domain name, purchase hosting, build a site and run it the way that YOU think it should be run. You decide what to allow and what not to allow. Maybe you have that perfect knack of knowing exactly how to please everybody all the time. You are even welcome to post the link to your new site here. I'm not going to compete with you. This site is free. If somebody leaves, it bothers me because I feel that I have lost a friend or a potential friend but NOT because somebody leaving here costs me any membership dues or may result in us not having more members than another club. The fact is, if you are REALLY unhappy here then it's not worth it. Find some place where you can be happy and if you can't find such a place, build a new one. Maybe there are MANY others who feel the same way you do. Heck, if it turns out that you are truly that much better at this than I am I may even shut this site down and join yours. (not likely though, I'm pretty happy with what we have) I made a mistake before starting this club. I spent too much time fighting with a handful of folks in an attempt to change a place. In doing so, I made myself unhappy and caused others to be unhappy. We are what we are and will try to please as many as possible. If you can be happy here then I am really glad. If you can't though, I'm truly sorry and hope that you will find a place where you can be.
