  1. I just bought an 86 Venture Royale. I love it. I'm still a rookie and this bike is loaded with gadgets. Does anyone know where I can get an owner's manual? I have the service manual. This is a wonderful site and I am learning so much just by visiting. Keep up the great work. Jay
  2. I finally bought me a carb sync tool and I can not wait to get it an see what kind of difference it makes in the gas milage on my ride. My 89 royale runs great but only gets 35 miles per gallon no matter what I do.
  3. So I finally took the carb tune out of the box (That i received two months ago)and took a dive into Synching the carbs so I got er all hooked up, got er started and well?, (I can say that my first gen 84 venture royale runs like a champ with an estimated 65000 miles on her and only running on 3?, well we'll just say 2 1/4 carbs. I can hardly wait to run on 4 carbs that are all synched together.) so back to the post, I didnt actually get to synch the carbs today because i am now going to have to rebuild at the very least one carb #1 and since IM there I might as well go ahead and do them all. I hook it all up and started it and found 1 running at 0 #2 running at around 8 and 3&4 running at 35 or so. Has anybody else found this before? and is there an easier fix for now before rebuilding the carbs? Also, does anyone have the part # for the VMAX floats that work in the first genner carbs? Can I just say that I love my royale...... :225:Thank you all for your time. Mike
  4. My dad has a 1989 Royale that he bought new. It has been sitting in the garage for the last 4-5 years and he has finally decided to sell it. The bike is in good to excellent shape, only 16000 miles, has not been run in 4-5 years. Everything was in working order last he rode it. I called a couple service departments at local dealers and BOTH tried to shy me away from it. Mainly due to it being older and limited parts availability. Are parts still generally available? Anything else I should watch out for? Should I buy it? Any help / guidance would be appreciated. Thanks! Eric
  5. I had posted yesterday that I was in need of a luggage rack....now I need most of the left side for a 87' Royale. Yep, a young lady knocked me off my 87' Royale while coming home from work this afternoon and took the bike with her, since my highway peg was stuck in the passenger side of her front bumper. The bike was shoved across two lanes and left to die up on the sidewalk. She and her husband ride a bike, so she is very upset for not looking before pulling out of a conveniance store. Now, how will the insurance adjuster treat me? She had Allstate insurance. The officer who responded gave her 3 points and a ticket! But on a good note...I am fine with a small brush burn on the sleeve of my rain gear... Oh Shoot, I quess this means I won't make it to the Skid In...or Thunder in the Valley..or Gettysburg..or.... Regards Dave
  6. Can anyone tell me the reason for stuffed animals on the luggage rack? Thanks Doc 84 Venture Royale
  7. Thanks to all who helped me work through the issues and bring the bike back to life. GeorgeS, Squidly, and Condor, and others thanks for taking the time to explain each step when I had yet another question. Now if I can locate someone willing to give the Royale a once over to see what else should be done. The engine seems to get a little loud once it is a operating temperature. A little less noticable when the clutch is pulled in. Not a knock like a bearing but more of a possible valve train issue. I live in South Central Pennsylvania, Bedford County. so if anyone lives in nearby PA., Western Maryland, or West Virginia and would be interested in taking a look, please give me a yell! Regards Dave
  8. Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Everett Brown seat 87' Royale Still working on my chicken coop saved 87' Royale and I need to find a saddle. The previous owner had approx. 2 " of foam removed from the drivers portion of the seat due to a short inseam. I am 6' 1" and I need the extra height to hopefully remove my knees from the fairing much less the fairing bags. The bottom side seam of the drivers seat is now even with the seat pan so I believe there is about 2" removed. My local shop said they can not get the proper foam to reshape the seat to original specs. What should I expect to pay for a used seat not needing recovered? I have been watching Ebay...what is a 87' seat worth? Once I find a good seat I will have one available to someone who is also inseam challenged, which is in very good to excellent condition and Brown. One other question...are the seats from the 85' and earlier the same as the 86'-93's ? Regards Dave

My bought this bike 5 years ago from my brother who owned it for 10 years before me. he said it had always done this for him also. Anyone hear of this problem before?

  21. I have a friend who has a 1984 Venture Royale. He has developed an oil leak at the bottom of his front forks. He says there is a seal there where the axle goes through the forks. He has had it into the dealership several times for repair. Each time, after a few days, the seals start leaking again. Does anyone have any idea why these seals would leak so easily? Is there something that the dealership may be overlooking in replacing these o-ring seals? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
  22. ok so i'm currently the high bidder on these RK mufflers at an insane low price right now what will i need to do to make them fit my 84 royale? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ROAD-KING-STOCK-MUFFLERS-NEW-TAKE-OFFS-NR_W0QQitemZ220131354857QQihZ012QQcategoryZ35573QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

  24. Anyone know where I can find a set of saddlebag and trunk liners for an '84 Venture Royale? I have looked on ebay, Google, checked out all of the known resources like TLC and Bikrbackrest. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am doing this for a buddy of mine, and it is a surprise for him. TIA
  25. Hello all. I just happened across Freebird's post (http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1066), and was so happy that I did. I am a little concerned over these issues (especially the Stator & the 2nd gear issue, as I assume that these two would be the costliest to rectify) because I just recently purchased an '83 Venture Royale, and will be picking it up from the dealership, tomorrow. I am not mechanically inclined, and really don't have the 'depth of pocket' by which to have any such needed work performed by a professional. I am sure that this will give lead for many to wonder why I chose to involve myself in such a pastime - when being positioned within such narrow financial parameters. The answer is, simply, that I love biking. I know that the bike I'm getting is 24 years old, and that parts DO wear out . But I am stepping out, on faith, that (first) the Good Lord will grant me safety & well-being, and (secondly) that I will know a decent amount of riding time before any heavy repairs are warranted. I will have a 30 day warranty period, and I was wondering if there was a way that the Stator, and shift assembly could be tested/checked for their levels of worth, and capability. Or would the situation with the Stator be such that you wouldn't know of a problem with it until it went? As far as riding the bike to tell how the shifting goes with it, I (naturally) have no experience with it - so I'd have no way of telling whether or not it felt right . I remember, 15-16 years back, how I had occasion to ride a number of different bikes. Some were very easy shifters, while others were not, and I would have no way of knowing what is characteristic for any particular bike - as opposed to something being wrong. Any direction in this matter would be greatly appreciated, and I offer many advanced thanks.
