  2. Hi all! Just bought myself an 85 Venture xvz12! I'm now in the process of fixing some of the issues it has. The biggest one is the CMS doesn't seem to work! The rest of the gauges seem to be ok except the RPM gauge is intermittent. Nothing at all shows on the lcd. I've tried replacing the 15A fuse but same issue. I have read about the CMS needing to be resoldered but all the posts I've read have some function! Mine has none!! Suggestions?
  3. I've never really been a fan of Facebook because I feel it is just too intrusive into our lives. I have an account with a few friends that I don't really use or post on. I look at it once every couple of weeks and see updates such as info on an aquaitances kid's last bowel movement or similar dribble. Here is something I discoverd today and you facebook users may already be aware of it. I was having lunch with coworkers which included my manager which is nothing unusual since we do that most days and we're all friends. Today my manager is looking at his phone and he says "I see you read a couple of articles last night". I questioned him about that and apparently Facebook had shared with him what I read off of Yahoo last night. He quoted me 4 topics which were correct, I had read them. Now I find this a real invasion of privacy. Since he saw that I have to assume all of my other "friends" saw it too. Now what I read wasn't anything significant, just Yahoo headlines. However, had I been searching for a new job or reading how to deal with managers, etc. That could have been awkward. If I read something of interest and feel it is worthy I'll mention it to my friends. I don't need Facebook automating that for me. So tonight I have gone into Yahoo and Facebook and turned on or off any security setting I could find that shares any information about my online activity. And if I find that doesn't fix it I'll delete my Facebook account. Dennis
  4. Warden and I had a strange conversation this morning. Even stranger than usual. I was talking about info I got on here and she asked "What makes you trust the info you get on there so much??" It took me a minute to answer. And my answer was a little lame. We learn to trust folks on here because??? I know I do and most of the time it is because they are proven right again and again. We speak from mostly experience. There are some very knowledgeable people on here and this is the first place I look for answers anymore. I even read some of what "he" writes and will admit he mostly knows what he is talking about. I said mostly. I see bad answers on here but they are usually corrected quickly. If you have questions about a thread most of the time just ask or wait and read and it will explain itself. Don't know what brought this on but I really appreciate what I've learned here. I've always wrenched my own things and this site has been a fantastic help. Not much I'm afraid to try on these beasts now!! Why do we trust the info we get here??? OK I'm done. thats about as close as I will ever come to saying "Thank you all for being here"
  5. An interesting story I just read regarding Canadian tourists in Mexico... http://news.ca.msn.com/top-stories/reality-check-how-dangerous-is-mexico-for-canadian-tourists-1
  6. I just read that if your husband is more of a "DQ" rather than a "GQ" type he is more likely to own a Venture! Must be true? Bryan

    Article re BEST BIKE ever

This is an article copied from canadian biker magazine. I found it an interesting read and thought some others on VR.org might too. Enjoy. http://canadianbiker.com/the-most-important-motorcycle-engines-of-all-time
  8. Read this. This is scary stuff: http://m.cnn.com/primary/wk_article?articleId=urn:newsml:CNN.com:20120209:ghitis-google-privacy:1&branding=commentary&category=cnnd_latest&pagesize=10
  9. Sub.. sub.. zero temps in Alaska.... Fort Yukon and Huslia were the coldest Interior communities at 63 below zero, while two others beat their own records. Read more: Fairbanks Daily News-Miner - Temperatures fall to 50 below in Fairbanks small air carriers cancel flights
  10. If I come on to this sight after being off for awhile the main page is new as it should be. New posts and all. if I click on a post and read it and then go back. It takes me back to old posts days ago. If I hit refresh all is well again untill I read another post and then get out of it the new page is gone and replaced with old posts. What is going on?
  11. I have a 2006 RSTD, I am about to pull both tires off to have new ones put on, I have read and book marked several threads that I am sure will help alot. I read that i shpuld download and read the service manual and was wondering where it is located. I have the owners manual but that is all. Is there any other manuals I should download or get? This is a great site, thanks to all that help.
  12. When I visit the site and look at the forums, but not the threads, the forum gods think I have viewed each thread and so when I return later in the day and ask to see the NEW POSTS, I am offered only those that have been started since my last visit. The threads that were ongoing when I last visited are now marked as "read", even though I did not read them. I have to wade through all the threads to make sure I haven't missed anything. Is it a Firefox setting I can adjust?
  13. I read this the other day and I wanted to share it.... If you want to get God to smile..... tell him your plans.....
  14. On the "Farewell / good by" thread, I read your post and looked up and noticed the title has got to be all wrong. Insteaad of this> It should read > VentureRider.org Dedicated to Yamaha's GREAT Royal Star Venture, The Antique Venture Royal and all Royal Star Motorcycles. Bryan
  15. As I read the various threads/posts, I often see words mis-spelled, spaces missing between two words, words that have a couple or more letters reversed and so on. As I get older, it seems that what I know is the correct spelling and/or punctuation just seems to get mixed up as it travels from my brain to my fingers. I usually porof (oops... that should be proof) read what I type and make corrections and when I do, it amazes me how bad this is becoming. Not so mayn (oops... that should be many) years ago my tpying was near perfect. Have "you" noticed this ... (I'll call it "phenomenon") happening aslo?
  16. Click on the link ant read the article then click on the movie. http://sciencedemonstrations.fas.harvard.edu/icb/icb.do?keyword=k16940&pageid=icb.page80863&pageContentId=icb.pagecontent341734&state=maximize&view=view.do&viewParam_name=indepth.html#a_icb_pagecontent341734

  18. I met Ron in Bancroft today at a planning meeting for some renovations that need doing there. I rode my bike the 5 hrs return He owns an 86 VR and was asking if I might know why his cruise control did'nt work. I asked if he could start the bike while NOT in neutral...he said "no" so I suggested it could be his clutch switch...or possibly his sidestand switch. I also suggested he check out this site for MUCH better technical assistance than I could ever provide. So Ron....if you read this WELCOME....there are a few threads with titles like "is this site worth the $12".. read some of them and decide for yourself. The folks here are a pretty decent bunch...relatively speaking!
  19. Getting ready for our first long distance trip to Tenn. in 3 weeks have read a lot of threads on tires an choices. V7 Goose has a bunch But anyway checked my tires on my new to me RSV still have good tread but front is Dunlop 404 an rear a Bridgestone something both have a date code of 09. The more i read the less uncomfortable I am with this set up been running zero air 2up since i have had. Thanks to info here I kinda know where to start on the air issue. One problem I thought was all me was a lil wallowing in the turns especially long sweepers cant seem to hold a continues line all the way through will out constant correction If i understand what I've read the air suspension an tires are the culprit an yes i check tire pressure an set according to owners Manuel. So now to my Question is combo. safe an will a new set of tires make me a better rider. I know a better gun won't make someone a better shot but can let them shoot up to there ability.

  21. As a winter project plan to fix the 2nd gear issue on my 84. I've read the how-to articles which are very informative. I read somewhere that Yamaha sells a 2nd gear kit for this repair but can't find the part number. Anyone have it?

  23. Bike was in the shade at work all day under a carport. when i fired it up and pressed the info button this is what it read.
  24. Back in '09 while trailering the bike up to Cody I lost my bifocal glasses. I didn't discover it until traveling thru Yellowstone. I pulled into a rest area to read a map of the park and couldn't find my readers.... I searched all over the inside of the truck and even drove all the way back to the West Gate to see if they'd fell out of the truck when I opened the door to take out my wallet for ID. No soap. The only other place I'd gotten out of the truck was at the Craters of the Moon in Idaho and I sure wasn't going to drive the 200+ miles back there to see if someone had turned them in to lost and found. So.... I went the whole week riding with my shades, but it was a PITA trying to read a menu or see after the sun went down. When I got back home I bought a new pair. Never totally liked them, but at least I could read a menu... This morning while trying to wire up the trailer on the '99 I went looking for a circut tester. I have a half dozen, but do you think I could find one anywhere? So I figured I must have one in the center consul of the truck. Went out, opened up the lid and started to dig around. My CC is as bad as my garage. You guessed it. Tucked down on the drivers side of the mess was my lost glasses. Searching from the drivers side I couldn't see them, but from the passenger side there they were. What's ironic about this whole thing is I lost them going to Cody, and found them while getting ready to go back to Cody. Go Figure!!!
  25. You have a better chance of getting it right if you read slowly. The following was developed as a mental age assessment by the School of Psychiatry at Harvard University . Take your time and see if you can read each line aloud without a mistake. The average person over 40 years of age cannot do it! 1. This is this cat. 2. This is is cat. 3. This is how cat. 4. This is to cat. 5. This is keep cat. 6. This is an cat. 7. This is old cat. 8. This is fart cat. 9. This is busy cat. 10. This is for cat. 11. This is forty cat. 12. This is seconds cat. Now go back and read the third word in each line from the top down.
