  1. I pick up my new 08 Venture this afternoon. Thanks for the help in my decision making process...we looked at a lot of bikes, kept coming back to this one. My only concern is the windshield and looking through it, getting a shorter one and then buffeting the wife. I'm sure we'll get through it. THANKS. WOO HOO!!!! As some of you know, I am currently shopping for a new bike and strongly considering the Venture. I have a couple of questions that would be great to get answers to. 1) I have heard that the 07's have some issues?? Is this true? Something about the electronics/CB/radio suddently quit working. There is a black 07 at at local dealer, but if I should focus on 08's, I have no problems with that. 2) Do you actually look through the windshield? If so, how do you deal with that in rain? (this would be my first touring bike, so looking through the windshield might be the norm..??) Thanks for the help.
  2. I was just given a set of Bub Sleeper Mufflers that are in great shape except for the chrome end caps (Chrome peeling). I have taken them apart and removed the end caps. I have (2) questions. 1) Does anyone know a good way to remove the chrome ? It doesn't look like it was applied correctly in the first place. I am looking to have them powder coated w/ a high temperature black satin finish. I think it will look sharp on my 05 RSTD (Black/Gray). 2) The packing material inside was almost gone, what is the material used ? Can anyone help with this ? Will
  3. Hi folks, I'm new to the Venture side of the bike world, I recently purchased a 2006 Midnight Venture and got to ride it for a week prior to being laid up for surgery (another 2 weeks of recovery to go). While laid up, my friends are changing out the tires, spark plugs and small service work on the bike so that it'll be up and ready to roll when I'm ready. I'm looking at this beautiful bike and have a lot of questions already after riding some 500 miles on it in a week. I hope someone is kind hearted enough to help a lad out. (A) The seat.. I'm 50/50 sitting on the fence about this one. Replace it... stuff it, or what? Not bad for short hauls but I'm cringing at the thought of doing a long haul with it.. I have a Mustang seat on my 1100 VStar.. would I expect the same comfort from a Mustang seat on a Venture? (B) Plastic paint and finish: I've read high and low looking for what people are using to clean up their black finishes on their bikes.. Mine has some blemishes, swirls and wear areas that I think could be cleaned out or polished out.. What would you recommend using or can you point me to somewhere that has more than enough info? Thus far I'm spending a lot of time in the forums reading up on this new bike and I have a ton of questions,.. and I'm eager to get out there riding next week! Cheers
  4. We're thinking about retiring again... This time to the South Texas area and would love to have some input on the area from Rockport to Brownsville... no more than an hour, from the coast... If anyone lives in this area, I'd love to ask some questions, so please drop me an email at 1bigyeti@gmail.com ... Thanks... Tom:backinmyday:
  5. I purchased a 2006 RSV last month and have a few questions: 1. What type of communications devices are recommended that mesh with the on-board intercom? We have 3/4 helmets. I was quoted a price of $300 at the dealership for a set and I'm hoping to find something more reasonable. 2. Is there a "fix" for setting the cruise control at speeds greater than 80mph? 3. The door for the cassette player sticks, and won't open without quite a bit of effort. Is there a way to correct this problem? Is there a CD player available that would fit in the same space?
  6. Folks, we have a new member in San Bernardino that could use some assistance. He will probably post but is new to forums and etc. His username is CaptainDave and he rides an '87 Venture. I guess he has some questions about his bike. If any of you are in the area and could contact him via email, I'm sure he would appreciate it.
  7. Are there any members in the house who are workers at US Steel? We have recently been bought out up here in the frozen north by USS I would like to ask a few questions, especially if your company had been bought out by the same. Thanks.
  8. I received an email from Paul Meyers "Newman" asking if a "computer help" topic area would be useful. This was actually also suggested long ago. At the time, I kind of thought that there were enough computer site helps out there and never did anything. The truth is though, we do get quiet a few computer questions here. It's just natural that when you have a club that communicates via a website that computer questions will come up. Whether related to the way something works here or computers in general. We already had an area dedicated to "Tips for using the forum" so I've simply expanded that title to include computer help in general. Paul has offered to help with the questions posted there and I know that we have several other members here who are very good (some even do it for a living) that will jump in and help when needed. With such a great base of knowledge here and people who are willing to help, we may as well do what we can to help each other. So, that topic has been renamed "Computer help and tips for using our site" or something like that. Near the bottom of the main forum page. We get the questions anyway, usually in the Watering Hole, so why not start taking advantage of the area set aside for such things. I'm sure that we can all learn from it.
  9. I am having a nightmare and seem to can't wake up.... Do we have any plumbers that I can ask a few questions? I want to PM you so I don't tie up the site. thanks, Dale
  10. Welcome to VentureRider, you have just joined the best damned website on the WWW. Good to see some more Louisiana folks join up. What part of La. are you from. I am originally from Kenner, La, lived the last 18 years in Laplace before moving to the Atlanta area 7 years ago. Welcome aboard and dont be afraid to ask questions, we may not have the answer right away, but we will get it. We are one big happy family here.............
  11. This is a cool website. So if your on the fence on who to vote or support for this site maybe just your answer. All you do is answer 11 questions and then see the Presidential candidate that most closely agrees with your opinion on the questions asked. It only takes a minute or two. Gave me a different perspective.......Ron http://www.wqad.com/Global/link.asp?L=259460
  12. Hi everyone, I'm seriously considering trading in my DL1000 V-strom to purchase a Venture so my wife can go on trips with me. I saw one this last weekend at the Seattle International Motorcycle Show, was *very* interested but had some questions the sales people weren't too keen on asking. Can't really say I blame them, but I was wondering if your group would mind answering a few of the questions they didn't have an answer for.. 1. Has there been any significant changes to the Venture for the past 4 years? 2. What is the most common problem with this model, and what is the usual fix? 3. How much additional current is available for items such as heated clothing, GPS etc.? 4. If there was one thing you wish you could do to improve the Venture what would it be? Lastly, this would be an every-day rider (well ok 9-10 months out of the year). Any big maintenance issues to be concerned about outside routine maintenance? Thanks for your time. It's basically a toss-up between this bike and a Gold Wing.
  13. I've been a member of this site for about 8 months now, long enough to say what a refreshing change this site is compared to another site I use for my other motorcycle. Without specifically naming the other site, I will just say this, it is a sportbike "forum" site. I use that sight, much like I use this one, to research and find answers to questions about maintenance for my bike, and preferrences for "add-ons". The other site I have stopped being an "active member", i.e. I don't respond to any forums, I don't add any input or advise. Reason being, there are several persons on that site that feel the need to insult, ridicule, and basically be just a royal pain in the arse. There are several forums on that site that had to be locked by the site administrator because of foul language, threats, racial remarks, etc. VentureRider.org has been absolutely fantastic. I have posted several questions and/or replies on here, and not once has anybody insulted me, or felt the need to enter into an online argument. There are even a couple of members within a four hour drive of me (especially Eck) who have offered their expertise and assistance. This site is a welcome breath of fresh air. Anyways, I had to get that off my chest, so now I'm off my soap-box...thanks to all of you for a truly exceptional website. Peace out.
  14. Yes it's about a second gen... I just recently puchased my 2004 Midnight RSV. I was wonderering about the handling of the bike and that was answered in previous threads. To say the least I am getting a new set of avons tomorrow. My questions are: Is there a fix for the low speed wabble? I have notice a whine in the drive tran. is that normal? Thanks for all your responses.
  15. Just wondering if anyone out there drove for a living ?....I just graduated from Southern State Community College Truck Driving Academy.... Got the Hazmat, double, triples, tanker endorsement's....Was not easy...But my job of 16 yrs. went down the drain due to Ford's incompetence...Thought I might give driving a shot...Got a few questions if anyone does.
  16. Ok. It finally happened. My rear shock has left a 8 inch circle of light oil stain on the garage floor. Even can see a drop hanging on the bottom of the shock. Here are my questions: 1) Does this mean my shock has failed? 2) Can it still be ridden? 1 up? 2 up? 3) Is replacement covered under warranty? Thanks to all those that can help answer my questions. Jay
  17. What brand of intercom system do i need to buy to hook up to the system on my bike. I know that the voyager has a different pin set up than say a goldwing. Im looking for helmets that already have the system or something that i can install in the helmet. Sorry for the new guy questions but i got the fever:banana:

  19. Just in here doing some research. I've ridden a VTX 1800C for the last three years (many other bikes prior to that) and I'm ready for a change. I rode the X from Jax, Fl to the race at Sebring a week or so ago and stopped to buy some gloves at a Suzuki dealer on Hy 27 in the Lake Wales area. He had an '06 RSTD that he had bought from a car dealer and the salesman talked me in into riding it. I liked it well enough but passed on the deal. I had just stopped to buy gloves after all. However, I decided on the ride home that I might want to get something with a bit more of a touring bent without going the dresser route. It was a long and chilly trip. I've been looking hard at different bikes since then and I've realized that the TD pretty much fits the bill. I rode a beautiful Valk Interstate that I imagined would set me on fire but I didn't like the cylinders in the way of my feet. I've ridden Harley's and, well, they're OK but feel very small after riding others and there's no way to get decent power W/O spending big bucks. The new Roadliner/Stratoliners are nice but for some reason the TD seems to strike a better chord. Looked at others too but nothing got me going. I'll miss the VTX's kick in the butt, but I'm slowing down a bit and think I'll enjoy the comfort of the TD. I hope my newb questions don't bug anyone too much and I'll read the archives as much as possible before asking obvious questions. I'm a long-time VTXOA member so I know folks get tired of reading the same questions year after year.
  20. OK I've got calipers and parts all over the place now! Have one set restored with existing parts and another with rebuilds. I've got two questions: 1) The seal rebuild kit came with a packet of pink goo. Is that lubricant or seal setter or what? 2) The set I've put back on is a rear & front linked combo on one of the '83s. I've bled the b'jeepers out of them (2 full bottles) - everything coming out is clean fluid on both sides, but they're still mushy as all get out! There's got to be some air stuck in there. How do I get it out??? I'm using a mighty vac and the bleeding is working OK. I saw another thread on the subject but I didn't see a clear solution. Any thoughts?? Thanks
  21. I know little to nothing about GPS's. So I was wondering what you thought is a good GPS for bikes. Preferebly one that is priced reasonable. Would like to know what features one should look for, and what options would be beneficial to have. Thanks Brad
