Gentlemen: I have a question for you. While removing the rear wheel and lifting up on the rachet which will cause the swingarm to lift also until the nut comes loose. I noticed some play in the assembly and found that the play was coming from the bushing area of the top mount on the rear shock. My question is should there be any play in this bushing at all or should it be a very tight fit at that point. I attached a picture of the shock point I am refrering to.

i know this is a taboo question but here i go. i recently purchased a beautiful rstd 06 , i have been riding my entire life and have kept my honda vtx1800. i researched the whole darkside car tire thing before i tried it on the honda and i have to admit that i like it on a heavy low lean angle adult driven cruiser. the vtx has over 5ooo miles on the car tire on the rear and no issues except excellent wear and grip. my question is has anyone put one on a venture ? pro's or cons ? and please do not preach to me if you havent at least tried it. any intelligent input would be greatly appreciated.

This is probabply a dumb question but here goes: I just purchased a new battery yesterday and the parts guys say to charge it before I put in service. My question is can I use a 10 amp charger or do I need a 2 amp slower charge?

Pardon my ignorance if this sounds like a dumb question. The piece in question is number 4 in the picture. The bike only has one on the left side and it makes taking off the seat a hassle because it's doesn't allow full access for my socket wrench. Granted I could always get a socket that doesn't requre a step down adapter. I took it off to make it easier to remove the seat. How important is this piece and am I supposed to have one on the right side too? http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk86/jason1gp/random/cylinderhead.jpg

Was looking at parts fiche for '09 RSV, on page 49 of 101 # 12, there is a plug in the top of the drive shaft tube. What is this plug for? May be a stupid question, but I didn't know it was there or what is it's purpose for being there.

CB (portable) Question......
Aussie Annie posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't have factory fitted CB on my Venture (different laws in Oz)but have Ed-Sets for helmets, and Bill Morphy at Mic-mutes told us how to get around the "no CB" problem and install the mic-mutes too. My question is: How could we install portable (hand held) CB unit on the handlebar of my bike, to hook up to intercom system?????? Can anyone recommend good ones? Then later on would look to have CB set up (linked) on Quicksteps bike for rider to rider communication???? -
My girlfriend loves to ride with me but afterwords it is always a pain for her to get all those tangles out of her wind blown hair. Shes tried bandanas but can't seem to keep them from falling off for some reason. Her hair is short enough that she can't really get it all in a pony tail and she pins the rest down with bobby pins but they seem to fall out too. So my question is, what do you girls wear on your heads when riding? I know the obvious thing would be for her to just wear a helmet but she doesn't like wearing it and I don't blame her. I might try buying her a cute pink one or something. Maybe that will help??

Me and my better half decided this summer that it was time for her to learn how to ride. I kept an eye out for something small and not in the best of shape in case she was to drop it. So... I just brought home an 81 Suzuki GS550L yesterday. It's actually in pretty good shape considering it has been sitting outside at my Dad's for the last few years. It belonged to my cousin who has been waiting for my brother to fix it. Neither ever had much success keeping it running. There were no keys to be found anywhere so I went to the locksmith with the ignition today to have a set of keys made using the code on the housing. I hooked a battery up to it, turned the key and everything lit up like it should. When I hit the start switch and nothing happened. When I pulled off the cover on the right side to try and track down why it wouldn't turn over, I noticed some wires that had been cut. As far as I can tell, someone swiped the rectifier. They didn't even bother unplugging it. They just snipped all the wires in one clean cut. For some reason, my brother comes to mind. First question, would cutting those wires make it not turn over when the start button is pressed? I've had other bikes and they would still at least turn over without a rectifier. Second question, what other years and models used the same rectifier? I'd be able to increase my odds of getting one if I knew. Third question, anybody here have an extra one laying around? Fourth and last question, would any of you know if there is a manual somewhere online that I can download? Thanks, Bill

As long and as detailed as this forums is, has anyone on here ever figured out how to keep the top center of the RSV standard windshield from forming droplets of water early in the morning? It does this right in the area where you need to be looking through. This is more than just fogg. It's like dew drops. I like the tall windshield and don't want to cut it down so that's out of the question. At "around town" speeds it's about impossible to see through. Who's got the answer????

My question is the two wires going to the old horn. Should they both show 12 volts at all times? I checked them with a light and both has 12 volts with the key on. And is this the two wires that goes to number 85 and 86 on the relay? Aslo I'm curious of where everyone placed their relays at....

I'm debating whether to buy a pair of Shinko tires..The price is enticing but I can't seem to escape the old addage " you get what you pay for" My question is: has anyone put over 15k on this tire and can offer a positive testimonial after doing so... Inquiring mind wants to know Thanks

Ok.....I'm about finished piecing together a Markland backrest I've been working on. The pivots were my problem and I got it worked out to what I show in the pics. My question is did the Markland use a knob and stud as a tightening device you could do by hand or was it just a bolt to hold the pivot together like I have done. Can anybody provide a pic or two of the pivot? I used a threaded spacer bushing with nylon washers on either side of the pivot disk on the support arms and metal washer that fits over the smaller side of the bushing to compress the nylons a bit. No rattle, smooth tilt action, but is it the way it should be? Trying to get it right. Mike

Since discovering that apparently no risers are available that work with a 2006 RSTD (because the speedo is located right over the stock risers and putting higher risers on would life it up and beyond the mounting bracket), various riders on VentureRider.com have convinced me that the Flanders G2 handlebar is the way to go. Not only will they give me a longer pullback, but they're $145 less expensive than the Star risers my local Yamaha dealer told me were supposed to work. At any rate, all things point to needing a longer throttle cable to go with the Flanders bar. My question is: how long a cable should be ordered and where can I get the best deal on one. A part number and online store would be great if anyone knows. Hoping someone has this info . . . thanks in advance.

I have a bad #2 cylinder on my 85 and can not find new pistons and rings. Will Vmax pistons and rings work in the venture motor? Vmax pistons and rings are still available from Yamaha but not the ones for the Venture. I have not asked this question at the local dealer I figured I could get a better answer here.

One of my co-workers has a Suzuki 900 and we ride home together each night because both of us live on Camano Island and work 3pm - 11pm. We believe in "safety in numbers", all 2 of us. Temps are now in the mid 40's for a couple of hours before we get off work. Anyways here's the question: How long do you warm up your bike before you take off? He says it needs to warm up for at least 5 minutes to allow the oil to circulate. I say that's too much. I figure it should only take a couple of minutes at the most. silverdeer

Just a question. Being as I am from NC we have been undedr constant highway road construction for as long as I can remember. The wife and I were riding a few days back and a tractor trailer was moving into our lane with us beside it. Now as the next lane over was clear it would usually be no prob, but the road is under renovation and they had just repaved that lane. This leaves a 2-4 inch lip to get over and at 65 mph we only felt comfortable with hard braking instead of trying to cross this hump/lip while running in the same direction as the lip. I've had cars have a hard time with this type of uneven type of road constuction. Guess my question is, how do you folks handle getting over in this type of situation? Is it safe to go over these types of lips/humps at hyway speed? any input is appreciated. David

I've read here that the hole behind the driver seat is the perfect size for a cigarette type power outlet, however, in looking at the powerlet brand, it needs a 1.125" hole & I measured the "perfect size" as .875". What brand will fit this hole without modification? Well, 1 more question: I'm not very good with modifying electrical stuff, so, how exactly do you modify the white plug near the battery that I've read about to work with a power outlet? And is it already fused? Thanks.
