  1. All I can say is "WOW"!!! The front end doesn't float over bumps any more and it's much more stable at parking lot speeds. (not to mention my feet now touch the ground)
  2. this is something that really seems quite right!! you think?? I AM THANKFUL: FOR THE WIFE WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT, BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME, AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE. FOR THE HUSBAND WHO IS ON THE SOFA BEING A COUCH POTATO, BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS. FOR THE TEENAGER WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME, NOT ON THE STREETS. FOR THE TAXES I PAY BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED. FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS. FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT. FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME. FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT BECAUSE IT MEANS WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH. FOR THE PARKING SPOT I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION. FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH WHO SINGS OFF KEY BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR. FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR. FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE. AND FINALLY, FOR TOO MUCH E-MAIL BECAUSE: IT MEANS I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE THINKING OF ME. SEND THIS TO SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT. I JUST DID. Live well, Laugh often, and Love with all of your heart!
  3. Larry, When you and "T" went out to cover your scoot Saturday night, did either of you take my bike for a spin? When I started out of the parking lot Sunday morning, I noticed the "MAX SPEED" entry on my Garmin was 141mph!!!!!!! Yeah I should have taken a picture of it...
  4. Motorcycle Tom and us saw this in a parking lot this afternoon. Cracked us up!!!
  5. i'm at work and i get a phone call from scheduling.....it appears that the local storm...BLEW my bike over !!.....i don't know if it actually blew it over or blew it forward and it fell...either way, the parking garage guy says major damage to faring....this is an 840 lb bike.....hard to believe...the bike is parked next to the office under the parking ramps...on concrete...it's not really out in the open.....i just finished mounting new tires, carbon 1 braces, new plugs, carb sync.........anyone ever heard of this with a bike this heavy..??
  6. My friend wrote me this morning and said he just bought a new Buick and that he must be getting old. I have a Buick Park Avenue! I told him the following,,,,,Life "begins" with a Buick! Your now authorized to drive in the left lane at 50mph with your right turn signal on, attempt to parallel park by nosing in. Once in, you may now do a 5 minute "bumper bump" to assure equal distance front and rear. You may also drive two lane state Hwy's at 45mph oblivious to the 26 cars in your rearview mirror. You may now shop at Pamida ,, park any way you like, even sideways! You may leave your lights on, (auto shut off) while in innocent awe your horn blasts repeatedly, you fumble with your key fob then drive off with your trunk open! You may practice double parking at the drug store and café while ignoring even semi air horn blasts!.... All this in preparation for a Caddy! Oh yes,,,,,,Caddy's come with optional handicap stickers that can be displayed in non-handicap parking zones!,,,, Imagine the FREEDOM! As an added plus, the owners manual comes in LARGE PRINT! Renne,,,
  7. Does anyone know of a Website that shows specifically that Parking on a 45 degree angle or with rear tire touching curb is the "proper" way to park? A local Township by me just started ticketing motorcycles that do not park parallel with the parking lines AND ticket bikes that share a parking spot. They claim the Metered Parking is to prevent people from parking all day and to give other people a chance to get into the town yet they ticket Bikes that share parking spots ( greedy town that wants the revenue). They just put in Meters in this Township and they are really busting chops. I'd love to send them a link that shows and explains the reasoning behind parking bikes as most of us do.
  8. While trailering my bike to Ft. Myers I noticed when I was just south of Tampa that I noticed in the mirror that my passing lamp bar looked like it was about to fall off of the bike. I pulled over and checked and one of the mounting screw heads had fatigued and broken. So I wire tyed it to secure it until I could get to Ft. Myers. So great, now I get to hunt up a new bolt and hopefully I'll be able to get the old one out and replaced in the parking lot of the condo. As I neared Ft Myers I recalled that there was a Yamaha dealer just off I75. I called ahead and the service department was open on Saturday until 5:00. I stopped in and asked if they had a bolt. The service mgr found a bolt and gave it to me. I suggested that they install it, after al l've got this five year warranty. He said that if he did that he would have to write it up and there would be a $45 minimum charge. I said fine, send the bill to Yamaha. They must not sell many Ventures because he seemed surprised at the warranty. Anyway, he took my vin number and wrote up the work order. I left the bike with him and went on to store my trailer and about an hour later he called and said the bike was ready to go. They replace both mounting bolts. I was thankful that they were able to get it fixed so quickly. I wasn't looking forward to fixing it in the parking lot. DT
  9. Anyone else have this problem? My 87 is too friggin heavy to get it up without assistance. I am ready to chop off 2 inches so t will be usable in a parking lot at least. Or should i bring a come-:179:along and park near a girder or streetlight? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/images/smilies/179.gif
  10. My group (Pennsylvania-X) rolled into the Bluke Knights Convention in Louisville, KY today. I counted about ten other RSVs during a walk around the motorcycle parking lot this evening. My question: is anyone from the VR group also at the BK convention?
  11. Ok, I need to donate to the DBF (Dropped Bike Fund) Dropped the wing in the Dairy Queen parking lot on the way home from vacation. I was trying to turn around with the trailer hooked up and there was a big dip in the parking lot that left my Left leg dangling in mid air which in turn made us S L O W L Y go over. No harm no foul and really easy to pick the Wing up. Boy those crash bars really do a god job. So..............where do I send it?
  12. Hey y'all. Has anyone ever moved the hazard light power from the "Run" to the "Acc" position of the keyswitch on their RSV? Here's my issue: I pick up my daughter at college and am not allowed to park my bike in the parking garages downtown (GRRR!!). So, I have to park in the no parking zone on the street like everyone else does anyway when they are picking up a passenger. Parking just long enough to pick up a passenger is allowed, but you gotta use your flashers. Anyway, I would like to be able to use my hazard flashers without having the head and tail lights on too, which happens in the "Run" key position. Any suggestions. Thanks. Rusty

  14. Now 45 years old 5' 8" 195lbs with 30inch inseam. The last bike I owned was 197x Suzkawakiyamahonda Enduro in 1980 ran it for about 3 weeks one summer. So 5 weeks ago took the 3 Day Basic Rider Course from MSF rode their 250cc Bike. Kind of like riding a bicycle ya never forget ya just need more practice. Then last week went to Half Day MSF Expierened Riders Course again rode their 250cc. Today picked up my 2008 RSV Black Cherry brand spanking new. I was so scared loading it up on the trailer had nightmares of dropping it right their in the dealer parking lot. Well did get it loaded safely and off to the local high school parking lot to "Get Familiar with the 1300cc and the 800lbs Gorilla!!! I can say I put 40 miles in the High School Parking Lot doing all the stuff I learned by MSF. Then hit the streets of Small Country Town in Northern Michigan for an additional 25 miles. The weight took some getting use too but all in all this Bike was very responsive to my inputs (((Very Happy))). As far as a Chirp or Whine (maybe) I have nothing to compare it too. I will have to get with some expirenced RSV Riders and compare bike noises.
  15. Vicki and I flew to Las Vegas at the end of March to celebrate her 50th. We had some problems with the Air Canada flight leaving Toronto - it left, it came back, it was supposed to leave again, it was cancelled, it eventually went out the next morning. So, I wrote to our good buddies at AC and asked them to compensate us for: ·one night's hotel stay in Veags (I had pre-booked and pre-paid), ·breakfast (Tim's at TorontoAirport would not accept the AC voucher) and ·one night of parking at TorontoAirport). Anywho ... finally (a couple of months later) I get a response back from my good buddy (budette?), a certain T Wylie at AC Customer relations. It's basically a "too bad-so sad-but you're SOL" letter, where s/he tells me that they have already compensated me - on the rescheduled flight we received a letter - en francais, even - allowing us the pleasure of taking $75 off their nearly-exhorbitant regular fees whenever we felt like it ... and oh yeah ... please submit your original parking and meals receipts so that we can "consider" whether or not to reimburse you. So, this morning, I thought I'd have some fun with my good friend T. Wylie - here's the letter that I sent him/her back:
  16. While pulling into Cracker Barrel in Brooksville FL (I-75) Sunday nite at about 8 PM, a couple on a Midnight RSV was pulling out of the parking lot. One of us??
  17. I had ask others about this possible problem a while back in here before. Yesterday after class here at the CVTC, (Chippewa Valley Technical Institute), in Eau Claire, WI., there was a parking ticket on my bike both for it not being a MC parking space and that I was parked in a disabled parking space. I do Have a disabled parking permit. And I do have a legitimate and very well documented disability. For some reason though, even after 2.5 years of having these problems, my doctor will only give me a temporary disabled parking permit. After my last post on this subject, I did find out that WI. does have disabled plates for motorcycles, but only for permanent disabilities. So that mean that until my doctor gives me permanent disabled status, I have nothing I can legally display on my bike to show I have a problem. Anyhow the jerks down at the parking enforcement, even though they have seen the proof that I have documented disability, refuse to void out this ticket. Depending on how a person interprets the paperwork I got with the parking permit, it can be a little confusing. They way I read it is that the permit is not valid on a mc so therefore I needn't display it on my mc. The guy behind the counter at the DMV agreed and told me to carry my paperwork if there was ever any question. The jackass here at the CVTC parking enforcement interprets it that motorcycles are not permitted to park in the disabled parking spaces period! She called someone at the DOT, and the woman on the other end agreed with her. She also stated that only a mc with disabled plates are permitted to park there. Therefore this would mean that if I have a temporary disability and a motorcycle, I don't have the right to park there. But on the other hand if it's a permanent disability and I have a bike with disabled plates only, then I have a right the right to park there. But still even with all that, I still can't park in one of there car parking spaces with my bike. Does this sound like some discrimination going on or what? Should I start looking for a lawyer? Any input on this matter will be greatly appreciated. P.S. I rode my bike to school again today, so I expect to find more tickets on my bike again. If this is the way it is gonna have to be, I will not be able to get to my classes anymore.
  18. Wonder how this happened?
  19. Anybody else besides myself have problems with people when parking their bikes in disabled parking spaces? In this neck of the woods we can get plates and cards for our cars but not our bikes. The guy behind the counter at the DMV told me that I didn't need to display anything on my bike but I needed to carry the paperwork in case an officer asks for it. That's good enough for me. But I sure do get some dirty looks and I don't enjoy having to track down the guy who writes me ticket when I'm not around to defend myself. So far I've been lucky and haven't had to go to court to prove I have the right to park there. It would save me some headaches if there were disabled plates for a cycle.
  20. I made a run to Walmart to get some beer about a mile from my house. I was leaving the parking lot in front of the entrance and a car came flying out of the parking isle. They would have it me if I didn't lay it over. Luckily I was going slow enough it didn't see any damage except scrape up the guards. I'm ok. The worst part though is they looked back and saw me on the ground then hauled butt out of there. I got a police report but they said there wasn't anything they could do because of the private property and them not actually hitting me. Thankfully my beer is OK and still cold now that I am home. Now when I idle in neutral I can hear some "transmission" noise. If I pull the clutch it goes away. Any ideas? Is something screwed up?
  21. Oh, if you were wondering where he is I enjoyed cheese cake last night. After he left Meandogs, he headed my way, in the pouring rain, and arrived last night. He wanted to go to New Orleans ( of all things to visit the HD shop) before he and Lonna made there last leg to Texas. Oh, you did get that, to visit an HD shop, don't ask me why:whistling:. Anyway should arrive in Huston tonight. It took longer than we expected because of work on the bridge crossing the lake that I didn't know about and then the traffic in NO was terible, couldn't find a parking space even in the pay parking lot. So we got out of there and headed west and stopped to eat and saw them off to Texas about 3:30PM. He said he would find another Harley shop in Huston, oh well:think:.

    BMW's

Let me start with a disclaimer: If you own a BMW I mean you no disrespect. This is a rant from my own personal experience. That being said, I was driving my truck across town and made a right turn when a BMW scoot came shooting up on my tail. Even though the road was only one lane in my direction, the rider still though it a good idea to pass me on the right and cut me off nearly clipping the front bumper of my pickup. This got me thinking. Why do most of the BMW riders that I come in contact with seem to be real jerks? I have only know one who was not and he rides with the same group as me. I can honestly say that I could count on one finger the number of times that an on-coming BMW scoot has given me the old rider courtesy wave. Four times this year, have been cut off by a BMW scoot while I was on my RSV. Last year, my friend and I took a trip to Lake Tahoe on our bikes. While there, we stopped at a Denny's with an extremely busy parking lot. We parked our scoots in the dead space next to the building to not take up parking for cages. Across the aisle there were six BMW scoots each one taking up a whole parking space. Even when a lot is not crowded, I still share spaces with other scoots. Am I all alone here or is this going on all over, and if it is, is there any way to get throught to these guys? I respect anyone on two wheels (even a moped) and I thought we were all part of a brotherhood no matter what we rode. I have even ridden with Hells Angels and they have admired my bike and were really great guys. I am not trying to bash BMW guys, I just want to know what the deal is.
  23. cruise control and i rode over to the beach yesterday , good test run on the bars [ great on the back and arms , 7th heaven ] saw a nice midnite with a suzy in the parking garage at the beach [ yes we can park in the parking garage here ] saw another 1 on madson , had 3 large flags in the back [ popped the new horns at him and got smacked by cruise control , she has never herd them while riding , she almost jumped off the back :rotfl:] anyway , anybody here know who belongs to those midnites ?
  24. Time to get up on the old soap box after what I experienced in Charleston SC this past Sat. It seems Charleston has a new city ordinance, no motorcycles are allowed to park in public parking lots or garages. I found out the hard way, entered a parking garage and was chased down by an attendant and told to leave. After a brief discussion with the attendant I was informed of the city ordinance. I have made some inquiries into this matter and was informed that, get this, motorcycles are clogging the streets of Charleston and creating too much noise. I'll concede on the noise part, but clogging the streets. So, instead of ticketing offending bikes with loud pipes, they choose to discriminate against all bikes. Well, I was told I could park on the street in the metered spaces, which run for two hours before you need to put more change in. My time ran out and I ended up with a parking ticket to boot. To put it bluntly, I was totally pissed. Ruined what should have been a wonderful day. So now fellow Venture Riders, do we really want to go where we are not wanted? As much as I hate it, I won't be taking trips to Charleston, if they don't want my bike, they must not want my hard earned money. I plan on spreading the word to as many forums as I can. May even send a letter or two to a few magazines. Please feel free to tell others about this, I would like to think we as a group can change some attitudes towards riders. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you.
