  1. Here is the first look at parts going to the custom paint shop. Post more pics soon
  2. My grandson and I visited a couple of rallies this past summer. He has since asked what kind of paint was it that the custom pin strippers and mural painters used for the artwork on the bikes. He is a pretty good artist as far as using an air brush goes. I would rather he practice on my old trailer than on some ones private property, If you know, please help.
  3. Good News After getting approval from the boss (Freebird) I called Jaybird ( the pin-striper) and he's got this year's MD on his schedule. He said he would come up and be ready to 'paint' on Friday and Saturday. He will again set up his canopy by the willow tree so bring your ideas and be ready to see some GREAT work done while you watch.
  4. I am adding a HD aftermarket trunk to my Tour Deluxe and want to paint it to match, or at least look like a match at 50 mph. There are rattle can kits for both colors, blue and black, on the internet that I think I will try. I could do the easy thing and paint the lid blue and the base black. Or, tape off and look to catch a similar angle to the saddle bags. There is a stripe on the bags where the blue and the black meet. Is this a decal? Or is this painted? If some sort of decal / tape, is this available?
  5. Does anyone here on the site own a Stream Silver wing, and if so have you found a matching touch up paint? I know that ColorRite has the kits available, but I really don't want to part with 33.00 bucks plus shipping to touch up a piece of moulding. Replacing the moulding isn't an option at 70.00 either. Not cheaping out, but after laying out the money to put this Hondapotamus Deluxe in my garage, it will be a while before I can start spending at will. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Short of selling my Venture, I need to take the low road for now.
  6. Hi All Hope all of you are haveing a good Christmas. Have any of you used colorite paint in the rattel can? Ive heard you have to put the clear on before the color drys all the way. I would like some input on this and any pics would be great. Thanks Bull463
  7. I ordered a trailer and was told it would be here in 2 to 3 weeks.. Well it's been a week and a half, (seems like a month).. I only needed a small trailer, so I ordered a Tag-Along http://www.lilthoroughbredtrailers.com/id2.html So far, I took my bike to the paint store "Finish Masters" they took a little computer out to the bike and came up with a color match I'm going to paint the trailer to match the bike. I fabricated a hitch for the bike pretty much following the design of others here. Below are a couple of pictures of how it came out and how it looks on the bike. Yes I know the bike is dirty but the weather here has been crappy.. It is hard to keep clean. Peggy and I are looking forward to using the trailer. It will make our trips a little more comfortable.
  8. sorry new member and dont know where to look for parts for my 89 venture . in need of left side fairing parts blue preferable could paint if needed thanks
  9. In the previous thread I told about the work done on the bike and the new paint job. Well, today I went to the garage to get the bike to add running lights and a Strebel horn I had purchased and when I got the bike out, I discovered the clutch fluid had leaked out of the cylinder at the handle and dripped on the fairing!!! My beautiful paint job is ruined and the fairing has split into 6 pieces. I am heart broken. I removed the fairing and washed all the pieces in soapy water and am going to have to try to save the fairing. Question: What can I do to glue it back together and what else can I do to fix the degradation in the plastic. Jim
  10. Anyone out there have a lower right side fairing/wind deflector with louvers? Black would be great:o) While I'm at it...since these pieces are plastic as opposed to fiberglass...is special paint required. I'd hate to paint this baby and see the stuff melt away!! Ride safe, Mike
  11. Trike is 8 weeks old and noticing problems with paint. I sent pictures to hannigan so it'll be interesting to see how they handle. When the Trike was originally scheduled there was a 10 day delay due to paint problems.
  12. I just finished stripping the paint off the markland hitch mounting hardware and now ready to paint it. My plan is to use black Rustoleum, it there something better, that one can recommend?
  13. Boy ooh boy. We went down to the dealer and bought a brand spanking new Sorento (2011) Saturday 16th. Wife was side swipped tonight Wed 20th. Please see pic below. What do we do ??? I know its value is less now even if it gets fixed to my satisfaction. It was not our fault. Other person was sited with tickets from Mo highway patrol. Never been through this before....It has 400 miles on it. We had custom pinstripe and 6 yr paint protection added http://www.kia-forums.com/images/smilies/sad.gif Body lines do not line up, it is pulling to the right really bad, slight vibration when driving now, neither door opens properly now. Pics do not show the entent of damages. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1d901b3127ccefdfdf7adcdb700000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1d901b3127ccefdfc5bd26ce200000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1d901b3127ccefdfdd6138d8100000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/
  14. Most of the white lettering has worn off of my switches and buttons. I have tried the detailing paint brush and paint and that was less than satisfying. Has anyone found a way to restore the lettering that is simple that even I could do it?
  15. Cleaning my Honda ST was a breeze... like cleaning a car with all that tupperware. I LOVE my Venture, especially when it is gleaming clean, but what a PAIN to get it there. I am sure there are many tips that members might share. What's the best way to: Clean (and wax?) the paint? (I used boat wax on the ST) Keep the chrome gleaming? Clean in the nooks and crannies? Keep the stock seats clean? Maintain black plastic (bib, radio, etc)? Clean the back wheel? Clean the windshield (I use Pledge) Any suggestions about tools, rags, chamois, microfiber, tooth-brushes, bottle brushes, waterless solutions? What about wiping the bike down without water? (I am concerned that the grime will scratch the paint, chrome, etc. My partner, Dianne has a good way of keeping her V-Star clean. She gets me to do it!
  16. How does one remove the sticker put on the gas tank on a new bike warning about wearing a helmet? I tired with my finger nail but its on very well. I certainly do not wish to scratch the paint trying to remove it. Thank you in advance for the help.
  17. I bought a set of Bub mufflers off craigslist and love the sound. The tips are flaking. Has anyone sanded down the chrome and painted the tips with a high temp paint? They might look nice with flat black paint. I know I can buy new tips.
  18. It's been a slow project, but it's now ramping up for a conclusion. I started breaking down my 87 VR last Fall in preparation for the winter project of going through the bike again and fixing the mechanicals as needed, repainting and reassembling. My good friend Richard generously offered to let me ride his 2007 Midnight Venture while mine was down for the rehab. Since he has been in no hurry for me to return it I probably took more time than I should have in progressing this project. But, now its time to get the ball rolling so with 4 days off work I'm ramping up for the completion. Last fall after I had dissassembled the bike Randy R came down came down and spent a couple of days helping me (more like showing me ) how to do the valve shim adjustment procedure. My son Clint has been helping by sanding and prepping body parts for paint. Now, after getting all of the paint materials together:mo money:, today we are about to start the painting process. I have cleaned and repainted the the engine block while the bike is mostly dissembled and will be redoing the carbs and fixing some minor mechanical problems during the reassembly. I call this project revision five since this is the 5th paint job that the bike has had since factory original. I have learned a lot on each revision and am hoping this one will come out right and be the final one. The last one (as many of you may recall) was a royal blue metal flake with gold metal flake flames. While better than the previous revision I was not completely satisfied with the out come. It reminded me and some had commented that it looked like the paint job on a bass boat. :doh:So, on this revision I have selected an electric blue (Kia Rally Blue Metallic) base color with silver pinstripping, then Clear coat until it pops. (lossing the flames) I am however preserving the Dragon Slayer coat of arms logo on the front fender. I have attached some pics as the project is now befor primer coat of paint. By the way when this project is complete I bought enough paint to paint the van to match the bike.
  19. Anybody know where I can get a good tank bag? Will magnetic ones sratch my paint???
  20. Here is some progress on my fairing. A friend helped me make the brackets out of plywood as templates to scan into the water-jet machine. As for paint I'm thinkin I'm gonna go with black for now, just to get rid of that white. http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn195/xxMPWATERDAWGxx/0913101329.jpg http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn195/xxMPWATERDAWGxx/0912101249.jpg
  21. I just purchased a 2004 Midnight RSV and I noticed there are light scratches or swirls in the paint. What do you use to restore the paint job back to normal? What procedure and what products?
  22. I want to know where I can buy paint to match my 1989 Venture Royale Maroon colour? What number do I have to give them to match the paint number? I live in Manitoba, Canada. Does anyone in Canada know where you can buy the paint? Thanks
  23. INDOT uses a private contractor to paint the stripes on the state highways. The contractor boss hired a guy to paint the center stripe on a little used stretch of road. On the first day the guy painted about a mile-and-a-half of road and the boss told him "Good job, see you in the morning". The next day the guy painted only about three quarters-of-a-mile and the boss told him "Hey, you didn't do so good today, let's hope tomorrow is better". On the third day he only paints about a quarter-of-a-mile. The boss says "Well you have really slacked off. This is unacceptable. I'm going to have to let you go". The guy responds,"That's not fair!!! The more I paint the farther I have to walk to get to the paint bucket!".
  24. Looking for someone who is a painter in my area to paint a trunk for my RSTD. They can be someone from the board or a body shop who does motorcycle paint work. But I don't want to break the bank. Anyone have anyone in mind? Thanks Joe :scratchchin:
  25. I know there are several here who have painted their bikes with non-stock colors or paint schemes. I can't keep track of everyone who has. It would be nice to have them all in one place. If you have repainted your bike with non-stock colors, throw a picture or two in here.
