  1. Has anyone replaced their clutch housing ("I" basket)? If so, what did you use to hold the housing whilst loosening the nut??? Mine's an '05, and while it's covered by warranty, the local guy shows no interest in doing the work. I don't want anyone touching my bike who has no interest in it. I'd rather buy the housing and do it myself.
  2. I sure like the looks of this thing but don't have $900.00 to spend on it. I do have the cheap Harbor Freight model that I have never used. I think I've bought tires 3 times since getting it and always end up getting lazy and taking the rims to a local shop to have them mounted. Part of the problem is that I haven't take the time to bolt down the changer. I really like this hitch mount setup and may look at building some sort of adapter like that for mine. http://www.webbikeworld.com/Motorcycle-tires/motorcycle-tire-changer/
  3. I am on the fund raising committee for my Fire Department. Last year,we got a deal from a local dealer and raffled off a brand new Cadillac, sold all the tickets and made a bit of money. This year, we decided to do something a bit different. A local collector agreed to sell us a 1970 Chevy Chevelle, 350ci with a 4 speed, fully restored and gorgeous. So I guess I'll be investing quite a few bucks in raffle tickets.$100 a pop, only 500 tickets printed. Might be expensive if I win, gotta build a bigger garage.:fingers-crossed-emo:fingers-crossed-emo
  4. Is this a normal LEO practice. I monitor several county sheriff dept and local city pd radio transmissions over our home scanner. One local small town dept is constantly running traffic stops. During the exchange for information with local 911 dispatchers the dispatcher gives the usual name address etc of the driver. Next the officer will ask for and receive over the air the drivers SS#. Identity theft is a major problem and now if you are stopped for a traffic violation your name, address, and SS#are broadcast for all scanner land or monitoring thiefs to hear. This must be a new practice because I don't remember hearing this before until recently.
  5. :dancefool:Yamaha Road Side assistance and told them I was taking a trip to Oberlin (Maintenance Day) and then on to Berkley Michigan then back home. They are sending me a trip layout with local dealers and maps. She said that I will receive everything before my trip. Nice benefit provided by Yamaha.
  6. i don't really know where to start this, so i'll just post the particulars, and field questions as they arise. on MAY 3, 2008, a group of local sponsors, are going to be bringing about 200, "wounded warriors", down from "BROOKS ARMY MEDICAL CENTER, in san antonio. these guys are all wounded COMBAT veterans, who are in the processes of healing. they will be treated to a day of fishing and visiting at PORT O'CONNOR, TEXAS. they will be coming down by bus, and escorted EVERY inch of the way, by local leo's and pgr riders. EVERYONE is invited to come down and show their support. just pick out one of these "broken warriors",and spend the day "just being there for him/her". or visit with ALL of them. their immediate families, are often hundreds of miles away, and they have nothing to do but sit around BAMC, and recover. our south texas P.G.R , guys will be there to do what ever we can to make this happen , and be a success. . disclaimer: if i have offended anyone , with this post, let me apologize now, and be done with it. just jt.
  7. On my 85 VR I can't turn this valve without using a pair of pliers. My brothers 88 has the same problem. Even the one we looked at at a local bike shop had this problem. Is this common? Can it be repaired? Dave
  8. Now that I finally have a garage again, and someplace to spread parts out, the moneypit is stripped and awaiting paint. While everything is off I figured I would try to see why the suspension kept loosing air pressure. What I found is a crack in the back side of the air dryer or I guess it's also called the desicant canister. I looked in the local stealership parts fiche, they show it in the drawing, but don't even have a part #. Will one off a newer bike fit, or does anyone have one laying around that will fit my '89?
  9. In todays paper there is a story about one of our local small towns installing picture radar out on the highway. It was also noted that warning tickets would be issued for the first month. Well, this local kid on a Honda decides to make a run at it and see what happens. He ends up getting clocked at 101 mph above the 55 mph speed limit. The only problem was he did not notice the Police Officer sitting there clocking on hand held radar both coming and going. The paper showed one of those pictures with the horizontal lines on the wall behind him and he don't look none too happy. At least the cop did not give chase, he just went by his house Sunday with a warrant for his arrest. Seems like the kid had a bit of a reputation on his Honda. RandyA
  10. Ok,I have read all the posts I can about wiring up a trailer. I am challenged on electrical. Here is the deal. I bought a new MCT trailer that has all LED lighting. Do I REALLY need an Isolator? If so what is the EASIEST one to put on. If it isnt REAL easy I will have to find a local member here in the San Antonio area that knows how to hook them up.Remember I am slightly color blind but my wife can help on that.It has the small round hookup plug if that makes a difference. Thanks,Tom
  11. Iway 600c

Just picked up an Iway 600c from walmart for $169.00. Marked down from $690.00. Lady said it was a discontinued item. You may want to check your local store to see of they have any similar deals. (or maybe I just got lucky)
  13. Brad, whilst perusing my local AutoRV mag, came across this and thought of you. Might be a bit high, but might not. I know you'll be looking soon, and wanted to point it out to ya. http://auto-rv.com/browse.aspx?AdName=CI5400239 If you need me to go take a ride on it for ya, just let me know! Dan
  14. I ordered me one of those digital game cameras. Got an inexpensive model as I figured none where bullet proof. Now to catch a thief. I figure I got a shot at that local $1500 reward for info. I could buy another first gen with that. Ahhh I hope it's not family I catch.:rotf::rotf:Yammer Dan you got any vacancies down there?
  15. Ok folks, Mocha needs cover gaskets, grommets, plugs, wires, and a couple other odds and ends. Who do y'all like to deal with? I checked my local dealer's website and they show all parts at list price. A place in Seattle came up at 25% off. I don't mind paying to purchase local, but Kent Powersports (Yamaha of San Antonio) will cost a lot more. J. B.
  16. My nephew bought a new Stratoliner "S" this spring.. What a GORGEOUS piece of work that baby is.. Personalizing it with additional chrome add ons he spent over 18 grand on it... He didnt even have 1000 miles on it and some low life stomped down on his rear fender and did a bunch of damage to it... Personally,, I chalked his bad experience up to pure jealously - sure makes you wonder though... Yesterday I have my ol 83 out playing in the cold.. Tossed on the leather sled suit and took a refreshing ride at 20 degrees... Only stop I made was at a local store for a few minutes,, I parked up next to the building in the motorcycle area.. I get home and discover that someone had kicked the left side bag guard hard enough that it had broken the mount for my backrest off the guard and bent the guard back and down against the bag.. Our local area has been experiencing a lot of this kind of stuff.. All the powers that be blame it on our Michigan economic situation, home forclosures, bored kids/adults,,, whateverr... As I worked in my garage earlier straightening out the mess the thought went through my mind of just how far we have fallen - I mean, come on folks,,,,,, jealousy over a 24 year old bike that was one of the most unwanted,, overlooked,, unpurchased scoots of its time???? Wont be long and the jerks around here will be willing to risk 15 years for Grand Theft for a stupid Chinese Moped.... On the same note,,,,,, I WOULD LOVE TO CATCH EM JUST ONE TIME!!!! Sorry,, had to fume... 'Puc
  17. Don. When you put your Flanders bars on did you have to swap out the throttle cables AND the hydraulic hoses? And where did you get these items? My local dealer does not have any extra length cables for the Venture. But then they have a tendency to stick with just a couple of suppliers. Thanks
  18. left instructions, today, for me to pick up his Kawasaki, at the Harley Davidson shop. i now have a KZ1000,police special, sitting in my driveway, and he is in Galveston for the LONE STAR RALLY! i ain't naming any names, but he is "kinfolks". local news reporter, says they are expecting a minimum of 500,000. people to visit the island, during the event! would i go to it???? heck NO !!!! just jt

    Back Again

Apologize for not posting this sooner, but I'm finally starting to feel like my old self again after the accident. I do want to thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes after the accident:) sure is nice to know caring people still exist everywhere. I do have a partial settlement from the other drivers insurance company, their property damage adjuster is giving me almost 100% of what I had paid for my 07 RSTD, the service mgr at the local yamaha dealer convinced him to use NADA blue book, so I owe him a great big thanks too. On the other hand their medical/injury adjuster is being a complete jerk, but should be able to get this issue settled within the next couple of months. I'm going to test ride the new venture when the local dealer gets theirs in and have some questions, I had been riding a RSTD for several years, how much difference is there in the "top heaviness" between the venture and the rstd, I know that's subjective, but just trying to get an idea from those that have ridden both. If I go back to the rstd, how difficult is it to add either a yamaha trunk or HD trunk to the bike, I do plan on removing the passenger pillion again. Sorry for the long post, can't wait to get back on a bike again. Thanks JT
  20. Will an 86-93 rear rim and rotor fit on an 83-85 Venture, and also without having to change the rotor if it does?? I have a '88 rim and I thought it might be easier to take it down to the local bike store and have a new VenomX I have mounted on it and then do the R&R on the '83 all at once.
  21. The title says it all, Our Local news station wants to warn us all not to behave like the actors in the movie. Link to the broadcast on the web. http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/myfox/MyFox/pages/sidebar_video.jsp?contentId=2579267&version=1&locale=EN-US Would like to hear your comments on what they had to say on this topic. Brake Switch

Can anyone tell me how much trouble it is to replace the front brake switch that activates the brake light. Mine is shot and I have a new one on order.. I need to know if it is a relatively simple job to replace it or if I have to pay my local dealer $80/hour.
